The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of root resection and retrograde cavity preparation methods on the apical leakage in endodontic surgery. To investigate the effect of various root resection and retrograde cavity preparation methods on the apical leakage, 71 roots of extracted human maxillary anterior teeth and 44 mesiobuccal roots of extracted human maxillary first molars were used. Root canals of the all the specimens were prepared with step-back technique and filled with gutta-percha by lateral condensation method. Three millimeters of each root was resected at a 45 degree angle or perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth according to the groups. Retrograde cavities were prepared with ultrasonic instruments or a slow-speed round bur, and occlusal access cavities were filled with zinc oxide eugenol cement. Three coats of clear nail polish were placed on the lateral and coronal surfaces of the specimens except the apical cut one millimeter. All the specimens were immerged in 2% methylene blue solution for 7 days in an incubator at $37^{\circ}C$. The teeth were dissolved in 14 ml of 35% nitric acid solution and the dye present within the root canal system was returned to solution. The leakage of dye was quantitatively measured via spectrophotometric method. The obtained data were analysed statistically using two-way ANOVA and Duncans Multiple Range Test. The results were as follows: 1. No statistically significant difference was observed between ultrasonic retrograde cavity preparation method and slow-speed round bur technique, without apical bevel (p>0.05). 2. Ultrasonic retrograde preparation method showed significantly less apical leakage than slow-speed round bur technique, with bevel (p<0.0001). 3. No statistically significant difference was found between beveled resected root surface and non-beveled resected root surface, with ultrasonic technique (p>0.05). 4. Non-beveled resected root surface showed significantly less apical leakage than beveled resected root surface, with slow-speed round bur technique (p<0.0001). 5. No statistically significant difference in apical leakage was found between the group of retrograde cavity prepared parallel to the long axis of the tooth and the group of one prepared perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth (p>0.05). 6. Regarding isthmus preparation, ultrasonic retrograde preparation method showed significantly less apical leakage than slow-speed round bur technique, in the mesiobuccal root of maxillary molar, without bevel (p<0.0001).

Jaeumgenby-tang(JGT) have been used in oriental medicine for many centries as a therapeutic agent of vertigo caused by deficiency of qi(氣) and blood(血). Effect of Aurantii Fructus(AF) take off the phlegm by promoting the circulation of qi, Gastrodae Rhizoma(GR) has effects treating for headarch, vertigo by calming the liver and suppressing hyperactivity of the liver-yang (陽). I investigated whether injection of JGT adding AFㆍGR extract(JTG) affects cerebral hemodynamics [regional cerebral blood f1ow(rCBF), pial arterial diameter(PAD) in cerebral ischemia rats by MCA occlusion method, and I designed to make manifest whether JTG is mediated by adrenergic β-receptor, cyclooxygenase or guanylate cyclase. The changes of rCBF was determinated by laser-doppler flowmetry(LDF), and the changes of PAD was determinated by video microscope and width analyzer. The results were as follows in cerebral ischemic rats; The changes of rCBF and PAD were increased stabilizly by treatment with JTG(10 ㎎/kg, i.v.) during the period of cerebral reperfusion, and pretreatment with propranolol and indomethacin were increased JTG induced increase of rCBF and PAD during the period of cerebral reperfusion. Pretreatment methylene blue was decreased JTG induced increase of rCBF and PAD during the period of cerebral reperfusion. In conclusion, JTG causes a diverse response of rCBF and PAD, and action of JTG is mediated by adrenergic β-receptor and cyclooxygenase. I suggest that JTG has an anti-ischemic effect through the improvement of crebral hemodynamics.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal leakage of esthetic restorative materials according to the filling method in class V cavities. 60 cavities were prepared on buccal surface for dye penetration test and divided into 5 experimental groups according to the filling methods of esthetic materials: group 1 was filled with glass ionomer cement, group 2, 3 and 4 were filled with the chamfer, knife edge and butt joint shaped glass ionomer cement respectively and silux plus/scotchbond 2$^{(R)}$ by sandwich technique, group 5 was lined with Dycal$^{(R)}$ and filled with silux plus/scotchbond 2$^{(R)}$ by bulk filling technique. All the specimens were then thermocycled in a range of $4^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$ by and immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution for 24 hours, and sectioned mesiodistally with carborundum disk into two parts under water spray. All the specimens were observed at the occlusal and gingival margins and statistical analysis was performed. The obtained results were as follows : 1. At the occlusal margins, group 2, 3, 4 and 5 showed less marginal leakage than group 1 (p<0.05) and there were not significant differences among group 2, 3, 4, and 5. 2. At the gingival margins, group 5 showed the least marginal leakage and group 4 and 5 showed less marginal leakage than group 1, 2 and 3 (p<0.05). 3. In the laminated groups, group 4 showed less marginal leakage than group 2 and 3 at the gingival margins. 4. In comparison to the occlusal and gingival margins, all groups showed less marginal leakage at the occlusal margins than at the gingival margins (p<0.05).
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) for detecting sealant microleakage. Materials and Methods: A total of 31 extracted sound human molar, assigned as suitable for sealant application, were chosen and divided into two groups: (1) no microleakage group and (2) microleakage group by applying sealant using the different methods. All specimens were immersed in 1% methylene blue for 24 h and sectioned to confirm the absence or presence of sealant microleakage as a gold standard method. Subsequently, all the sectioned specimens were digitally photographed using a microscope with a magnification of ${\times}50$. Presence of microleakage was evaluated on a 2-point rating scale. The association of histological method with conventional methods (visual and tactile assessment) and SS-OCT was assessed using a chi-squared test. The intra- and inter-examiner reliability was calculated using Cohen's Kappa. Results: The SS-OCT showed a sensitivity of 0.73 and a specificity of 1.00, while visual and tactile assessment showed a sensitivity of 0.67 and a specificity of 0.86. The inter-examiner reliability of SS-OCT was 0.79, whereas that of the visual and tactile assessment was 0.53. Conclusions: SS-OCT can be used to non-invasively detect sealant microleakage and to monitor pit and fissure sealant in the clinics.

It includes the synthesis of pristine ZnO nanoparticles and a series of Ag-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles was carried out by reflux method by varying the amount of silver (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9% by mol.). The morphology of these nanoparticles was investigated by SEM, XRD and FT-IR techniques. These techniques show that synthesized particles are homogenous spherical nanoparticles having an average particle size of about 50-100 nm along with some agglomeration. The photocatalytic activity of the ZnO nanoparticles and Ag doped ZnO nanoparticles were investigated via photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) as a standard dye. The data from the photocatalytic activity of these nanoparticles show that 7% Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles exhibit much enhanced photocatalytic activity as compared to pristine ZnO nanoparticles and other percentages of Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles. Furthermore, 7% Ag-doped ZnO was made composites with sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride by physical mixing method and a series of nanocomposites were made (3.5, 7.5, 25, 50, 75% by weight). It was observed that the 25% composites exhibited better photocatalytic performance than pristine S-g-C 3 N 4 and pure 7% Ag-doped ZnO. Tauc's plot also supports the photodegradation results.
Background: Preauricular sinus (PAS) is a common congenital anomaly, and complete excision is recommended to prevent recurrence. However, PAS has a high recurrence rate as a result of incomplete removal due to the high variability of the sinus ramifications, making its treatment challenging. In this study, we standardized the surgical procedure to reduce the complications and recurrence rate and compared the postoperative results between the non-standardized and the standardized groups. Methods: This retrospective study included 97 patients (120 ears) who had undergone PAS excision by a single surgeon between October 2014 and September 2022 and underwent at least 6 months of follow-up. After October 2018, all patients were treated using the standardized method, which comprised the use of magnifying glasses, exploration with a lacrimal probe, the use of methylene blue staining, and excision of a piece of surrounding normal tissue and related cartilage in continuity with the specimen. There were 38 patients (45 ears) in the non-standardized group and 59 patients (75 ears) in the standardized group. Results: Recurrence was observed in six of 120 ears, indicating an overall recurrence rate of 5.0%. Recurrence occurred in five ears (11.1%) in the non-standardized group and one ear (1.3%) in the standardized group. The standardized group had a significantly lower recurrence rate (p= 0.027) than the non-standardized group. Conclusion: We defined a standardized sinectomy protocol and used it for the surgical treatment of PAS. With this standardized method, we were able to reduce the rates of complications and recurrence without the use of a long incision.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of class V compomers according to acid etching treatment and treatment times. Extracted 180 sound human molar teeth were selected then prepared physiologic pulpal pressure far this experiment. In this study class V cavities were prepared on buccal surface with gingival margin located in 1mm superior to CEJ under simulate physiological conditions. These specimens were randomly divided into 6 groups of 30 each and restored following methods : A: Dyract AP + Prime&Bond 2.1 Group 1 : No acid etching, according to manufacturer's instruction. Group 2 : 15 seconds acid etching and same method with Group 1. Group 3 : 30 seconds acid etching and same method with Group 1. B: F2000 groups + Single Bond adhesive Group 1 : No acid etching, according to manufacturer's instruction. Group 2 : 15 seconds acid etching and same method with Group 1 Group 3 : 30 seconds acid etching and same method with Group 1. After 500 thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$, the specimens were sealed with glass ionomer and nail varnish then placed in 5% methylene blue dye for 5 hours and rinsed with tab water. The specimens were embedded in orthodontic clear resin, then sectioned buccolingually through the center of restoration with a low speed diamond saw. The dye penetration on each of the specimens were then observed with a stereomicroscope at $\times20$ magnification. The results of this study were statistically analyzed using the indepedent sample t-test and analysis of variance. Results were as follows, 1. In occlusal walls, microleakage were significantly reduced in acid etched group restored with Dyract AP but no statistically significance in F2000 groups. 2. In gingival walls, microleakage were significantly reduced in group 2 restored with Dyract AP, and group 2 and group 3 in F2000 groups. 3. All groups, except group 3 in Dyract AP, showed significantly less microleakage in occlusal wall than gingival wall. 4. No statistical significance were showed between group 2 and group 3 in both materials.
AC and ZnS modified $TiO_2$ composites (AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$) were prepared using a sol-gel method. The composite obtained was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, and according to the UV-vis absorption spectra (UV-vis). XRD patterns of the composites showed that the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites contain a typical single and clear anatase phase. The surface properties as observed by SEM present the characterization of the texture of the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites, showing a homogenous composition in the particles showing the micro-surface structures and morphology of the composites. The EDX spectra of the elemental identification showed the presence of C and Ti with Zn and S peaks for the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composite. UV-vis patterns of the composites showed that these composites had greater photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. A rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under visible light irradiation was used to determine the photocatalytic activity. The degradation of Rh.B was determined using UV/Vis spectrophotometry. An increase in the photocatalytic activity was observed. From the photocatalytic results, the excellent activity of the Y-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composites for the degradation of methylene blue under visible irradiation could be attributed to an increase in the photo-absorption effect caused by the ZnS and to the cooperative effect of the AC.
Indonesian coal-based activated carbon was manufactured with steam-reaction method. Also effects of carbonization temperature and steam amount on the process yield and quality of the product were investigated at the activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. The rotary kiln type furnace was used for both carbonization and activation and the optimum operation conditions were carbonization temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, steam amount of 2.7g steam/g char and activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. At this condition, the iodine value of activated carbon was 1,010 mg/g. Methylene Blue Adsorption Number was 230mg/g and B.E.T. surface area was $1,020m^2/g$ with the hardness about 97.

A novel $TiO_2$-Coconut Shell Powder Composite (TCSPS), prepared by the controlled sol-gel method with subsequent heat treatment, was evaluated as an innovative photocatalytic absorbent for the removal of methylene blue. Optimal preparation conditions of TCSPC were obtained by a response surface methodology and a central composite design model. As compared with the results obtained from one-factor-at-a-time experiments, the values were approximated to the nearest condition of these values and the following experimental parameters were set as the optimum : $600^{\circ}C$ calcination temperature and 20 g of coconut shell powder loading amount.
