  • Tracking and erosion of Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) and the suppression mechanism of alumina trihydrate were investigated in the present study The conventional testing as IEC-60587 is widely used in surface aging measurement of outdoor insulator those testing can carry out very short time for Lab testing. Also IEC-60587 testing is able to offer the standard judgement of relative degradation level of outdoor HV system. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous conventional tracking testing method, But surface discharges(SD) have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required estimation research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of IRR-Camera is carrying out discover of temperature of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis. In this paper, SD occurred from IEC-60587 is measured with the surface temperature of weibull distribution in real time, the degradation grade of SD is analyzed through produced patterns in IEC-60587 using Infrared Radiation(IRR) camera.

  • The optical diffuser for direct-lit LED backlight unit was prepared by using extrusion compounding followed by thermoforming process. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with superior optical characteristics and polycarbonate (PC) with good thermal property were used as base resins, and crosslinked polystyrene (PS) and PMMA beads as diffusing agents were incorporated into resin matrix to derive light scattering and diffusing action. In the compounded plate, the diffusing beads were observed to be dispersed uniformly and distinctly in the continuous phase. The inclusion of polymeric beads up to 3 wt% substantially enhanced the optical characteristics such as luminance, luminance uniformity, haze for the diffuser. Two different diffusers of PC and PMMA-based compound with various compositions were compared in terms of measured optical, thermal, and mechanical properties, which would be expected to be utilized for the industrial application of LED backlight unit.

  • A microlens has been fabricated by various methods such as a thermal reflow, hot embossing, diamond milling, etc. However, these methods require a relatively complex process to control the microlens shape. In this work, we report on a simple and cost-effective method to fabricate a cylindrical microlens (CML), which can diffuse light widely. We have employed a slot-die head with the dual plate (a meniscus guide with a protruded μ-tip and a shim with a slit channel) for coating of a narrow stripe using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). We have shown that the higher the coating gap, the lower the maximum coating speed, which causes an increase in the stripe width and thickness. The coated PMMA stripe has the concave shape. To make it in the shape of a convex microlens, we have applied the thermal reflow method. When the stripe thickness is small, however, its effect is negligible. To increase the stripe thickness, we have increased the number of repeated coating. With this scheme, we have fabricated the CML with the width of 223 ㎛ and the thickness of 7.3 ㎛. Finally, we have demonstrated experimentally that the CML can diffuse light widely, a feature demanded for light extraction efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and suppression of moiré patterns in displays.

  • A series of hydroxyl-derivatized quaternized polymers were successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azide and alkynes (click chemistry), followed by quaternization reactions. ATRP was employed to synthesize poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), followed by introduction of alkyne groups using pentynoic acid, leading to HEMA-Alkyne. 2-Azido-1-ethanol and 3-azido-1-propanol were combined with the HEMA-Alkyne backbone via click reaction, resulting in triazole-ring containing hydroxyl-derivatized polymers. Quaternization reactions with methyl iodide were conducted on the triazole ring of each polymer. Molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and the degree of quaternization (DQ) were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The average molecular weight ($M_n$) of the resulting polymers ranged from $5.9{\times}10^4$ to $1.05{\times}10^5g/mol$ depending on the molecular architecture. The molecular weight distribution was low ($M_w/M_n$ = 1.26-1.38). The transmission spectra of the 0.1 wt % aqueous solutions of the resulting quaternized polymers at 650 nm were measured as a function of temperature. Results showed that the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) could be finely controlled by the level of DQ.

  • Optical transparency and high diffraction efficiency are two essential factors for high performance of the photopolymer. Optical transparency mainly depends on the miscibility between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer, while diffraction efficiency depends on the refractive index modulation between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer. For most of organic materials, the large refractive index difference between two polymers accompanies large structural difference that leads to the poor miscibility and thus poor optical quality via light scattering. Therefore, it is difficult to design a high-performance photopolymer satisfying both requirements. In this work, first, we prepared a new phase-stable photopolymer (PMMA) with large refractive index modulation and investigated the optical properties. Our photopolymer is based on modified poly (methyl methacrylate) as a polymer binder, acryl amide as a photopolymerizable monomer, triethanolamine as initiator, and yellow eosin as a photosensitizer at 532 nm. Diffraction efficiency over 85% and optical transmittance over 90% were obtained for the photopolymer. Second, Organic-inorganic nanocomposite films were prepared by dispersing an aromatic methacrylic monomer and a photo- initiator in organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel matrices. The film properties could be controlled by optimizing the content of an organically modified silica precursor (TSPEG) in the sol-gel matrices. The photopolymer film modified with the organic chain (TSPEG) showed high diffraction efficiency (> 90%) under an optimized condition. High diffraction efficiency could be ascribed to the fast diffusion and efficient polymerization of monomers under interference light to generate refractive index modulation. The TSPEG modified photopolymer film could be successfully used for holographic memory.

  • This study describes a method where the match of two different length scales, i.e., the patterns from self-assembled block copolymer (<50 nm) and electron beam writing (>50 nm), allow the nanometer scale pattern mask. The method is based on using block copolymers containing a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) block, which is subject to be decomposed under an electron beam, as a pattern resist for electron beam lithography. Electron beam on self assembled block copolymer thin film selectively etches PMMA microdomains, giving rise to a polymeric nano-pattern mask on which subsequent evaporation of chromium produces the arrays of Cr nanoparticles followed by lifting off the mask. Furthermore, electron beam lithography was performed on the micropatterned block copolymer film fabricated by micro-imprinting, leading to a hierarchical self assembled pattern where a broad range of length scales was effectively assembled, ranging from several tens of nanometers, through submicrons, to a few microns.

  • The polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was carried out using CuBr/bidentate phosphorus ligand catalyst systems. MMA polymerization with CuBr/phosphine-phosphinidene (PP) exhibited high conversion ($\~80\%$) in 5 h at $90^{\circ}C$ along with a linear increase of ln($[M]_0/[M]$) versus time, indicating constant concentration of the propagating radicals during the polymerization. The molecular weight of the prepared PMMA tended to increase with conversion, suggesting the living polymerization characteristic of the system. On the other hand, a large difference between the measured and theoretical molecular weight and a broad molecular weight distribution were observed, implicating possible incomplete control over the polymerization. This may have been caused by the low deactivation rate constant ($\kappa_{deact}$) of the system. The low $\kappa_{deact}$, would result in irreversible generation of radicals instead of reversible activation/deactivation process of ATRP. Polymerizations performed at different ligand to CuBr ratios and different monomer to initiator ratios did not afford better control over the polymerization, suggesting that the controllability of CuBr/phosphorus ligand system for ATRP is inherently limited.

  • We have synthesized a novel macromonomer of vinyl-terminated bifunctional polyurethane having a molecular weight of 37,000 g/mol and successfully applied it to the dispersion polymerization of methylmethacrylate(MMA). We verified the presence of the vinyl terminal group and the macromonomer grafted onto the poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) block in the PMMA particles by using $^1$H and $\^$13/C NMR spectroscopies. Monodisperse PMMA microspheres that have good uniformity of 1.01 were prepared at 20 wt% macromonomer content; we investigated the characteristics of the PMMA particles in terms of their molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, size of the particles, thermal properties, and glass transition temperature. We have found that the synthesized polyurethane macromonomer is an effective stabilizer.

  • To prepare very stable acrylic type emulsion having a visible ray absorption property, in-situ preparation technique of $Cu_xS$ nanoparticle was adopted. Firstly, the acylic emulsions of methyl methacrylate(MMA), butyl acrylate(BA), and acrylonitrile(AN) were synthesized by pre-emulsion polymerization at $60^{\circ}C$ in the presence of anionic surfactant. Secondly, $Cu_xS$ nanocomposited emulsions were directly prepared in the prepolymerized acrylic emulsion with $CuSO_4$ at $50^{\circ}C$. The presnce of $Cu_xS$ nanoparticle in emulsion was confirmed by SEM and EDS. The final $Cu_xS$ nanocomposited emulsion showed an olive-green colour and good emulsion stability up to 1 month. In addition the PET films coated with our $Cu_xS$ nanocomposited emulsion absorbed effectively the visible ray.
