보건의료인력 양성 프로그램의 만족도에 대한 질적 연구: 이종욱펠로우십 프로그램 임상과정(캄보디아 재활)을 중심으로 (A Qualitative Study on Satisfaction with Healthcare Workforce Capacity Building Program: Focusing on Dr LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program for Clinical Experts (Cambodia Rehabilitation))

  • Background: We aimed to provide basic data for improving the effectiveness of the invitational training and reflecting it in the program in the following year by identifying the satisfaction level of trainees who participated in the "Dr. LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program" funded by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using a questionnaire interview. In the first stage of analysis, only the interview contents related to the research topic were classified by the researcher for the conversations recorded at the interview site, and in the second stage of analysis, the interview contents classified in the first stage were classified into each of those mentioned in this study. Results: The longer the trainees participated in the program and the better the accessibility, the higher the satisfaction with the program. In addition, the level of achievement of the trainees' goals and the level of improvement in their competence affected their satisfaction, and their difficulty in language communication during the training period was identified as a factor affecting the trainees' satisfaction level. In addition, competency improvement and satisfaction were positively correlated (r=0.75, p=0.03). Conclusion: When organizing a rehabilitation workforce capacity training program, it is important to identify trainees' needs, ensure accessibility, organize courses effectively, enhance English proficiency, and expand practical lectures to increase trainees' knowledge and understanding of rehabilitation.

Experience of operating a medical humanities course at one medical school during the COVID-19: a retrospective study

  • Background: This study summarizes the experience of operating a 'Medical Humanities' course, which was taught remotely to maintain activities and discussions at medical schools in Daegu, Korea during the sudden and unexpected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: The subjects of this study were 73 first- and 79 second-grade medical students who took the medical humanities (1) and (2) courses among first- and second-grade students of Yeungnam University College of Medicine in 2020. Of the 152 students who agreed to the online survey, 123 completed the survey. Self-, environmental, and program evaluations were conducted on the study subjects, and differences according to grade and gender were analyzed. Results: As a result of the study, a significant difference between self-evaluation and environmental evaluation was confirmed. Self-evaluation was determined to be higher in the first grade than in the second grade. The environmental evaluation showed that male students were more satisfied than female students and students generally had difficulties in the classroom environment. Of the applications used in class, the highest satisfaction was observed with KakaoTalk (Kakao Corp.) and Zoom (Zoom Video Communications Inc.). At the end of COVID-19, the students preferred online classes. Conclusion: If the learning environment for online classes is well prepared and systematic provisions are made, such as class operations that are suitable for the subject, effective education and learning can be achieved by taking advantage of both face-to-face and online classes.

The Status of Teachers of Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Practicing Strategies for the Modification of Aggressive Behaviour in Saudi Arabia

  • This study examines teachers' implementation of strategies to modify the aggressive behavior of students with intellectual disabilities in Saudi Arabia, to determine the obstacles to their real-world execution. In addition, it presents potential approaches to overcome the obstacles to implementing strategies with this group of students. The research employed a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews as a data collection tool and applied a thematic analysis. The study population comprised 35 teachers of students with intellectual disabilities and the study sample numbered six teachers. The interviews were conducted via different methods: three by phone, two face-to face, and one using the Zoom platform. The results revealed inadequate understanding among teachers of intellectual disability and behaviour modification strategies, and this affected their capacity to develop plans that were compatible with the needs of students with intellectual disability. The findings also identified multiple obstacles that impede teachers' implementation of strategies to modify aggressive behaviour among students with intellectual disabilities; the most important being the lack of input from a psychological specialist when developing programs to modify aggressive behaviour. In general, it is apparent that programs for modifying aggressive behaviour are neither structured nor complementary, due to the scarcity of administrators with sufficient knowledge and familiarity with the characteristics and personalities of students with intellectual disabilities. This study presents several recommendations, the most important of which is that teachers of students with intellectual disability should develop themselves through training courses to enable them to deal with these students and create treatment plans that include strategies and clear steps to modify the aggressive behaviour of students with intellectual disabilities. To support teachers, it is also necessary to remove the obstacles facing education centres by providing financial support to create an environment in which they can access the required devices and equipment in their classes.

치과기공사의 직무기반 국가 실기시험 실행을 위한 조사 연구 (Survey research to implement a job-based national practical exam for dental technicians)

  • Purpose: This study proposes measures needed to implement a job-based national practical exam for dental technicians. Methods: For this study, a survey was conducted targeting 244 currently employed individuals. The current national practical test for dental technicians was divided into directions for the job-based practical test, subjects that need improvement among the current practical test subjects, items that need to be reflected in the practical test evaluation for each subject, and subjects that need to be added to the practical test. It comprised ten questions (Cronbach's α=0.801). Results: The following results were obtained. Satisfaction with the current practical test was lower than average. Future improvement should focus on job-based evaluation. The dental ceramic lab technology subject needs to be reorganized urgently, and the tasks that require evaluation for each subject are different. Moreover, if evaluation subjects are added in the future, the introduction of assessment for dental CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) subjects was found to be the most urgent. Conclusion: In this study, the most necessary tasks of the current national practical examination for dental technicians were evaluated and the content needed for future reorganization was investigated. Future tests should be expanded to evaluate critical job areas. Furthermore, it is necessary to open new courses in fields such as CAD/CAM, as they are in high demand in the workplace.

Organizational Member Attitudes According to Workplace Type of Dental Hygienist

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate whether there is a difference in organizational member attitudes by workplace environment and workplace types in dental hygienists working at dental health centers. Methods: A face-to-face survey or online survey was administered to dental hygienists working at dental health centers, and a total of 95 subjects were included. The survey includes 13 items to ask factors affecting employee's job satisfaction. Also, some questions were included to assess perception of organizational member attitude: five about organizational citizenship behavior, two about innovative behavior, and four about organizational commitment. Results: Dental hygienists working at dental clinics were more satisfied with their incomes and numbers of working days, while those from dental university hospitals and general hospitals were more satisfied with education support. In addition, hygienists working at dental hospitals were more satisfied with job autonomy, individual work capability, safe working environment, personal relation, potential for personal development, and positive labor-management relations, compared to those working at general and university hospitals (p<0.05). Among the items about perception of organizational member attitudes, the scores of items about organizational citizenship behaviors were higher, whereas the scores of items about innovative behaviors were relatively lower. Individuals working at dental hospitals than those working at general and university hospitals, chiefs and team and department leaders than team members, and those with increased satisfaction with current workplace had more positive perception of organizational member attitudes. Conclusion: For dental hygienists to have positive attitudes as organizational members, working environment should be improved, and executives of dental healthcare centers should pay attention to improving job satisfaction of organizational members. Moreover, since dental hygienists need to improve their perception of innovative behaviors and citizenship behaviors to strengthen specialty of dental hygienists in a changing dental healthcare, relevant training should be addressed in refresher courses or school programs.

섬유 환경규제 대응을 위한 재직자 교육과정 개선방안 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of the Curriculum for the Workers to Respond to Textile Environmental Regulations)

  • This study aims to cultivate specialized professionals equipped with practical skills essential for compliance with textile environmental regulations and analysis of harmful substances. This is achieved through the revision and restructuring of educational programs targeting workers in the chemical analysis industry. To address this, a survey was conducted among chemical industry workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to gauge the demand for educational programs. Specifically, a survey was conducted among 240 SME workers who participated in the 2022 education curriculum to identify their educational needs and specific requirements in the field. The research findings indicate that the majority of SMEs recognize the necessity of education in the chemical field and express a strong willingness to engage in the curriculum. Particularly emphasized was the need to enhance practical skills crucial for compliance with chemical environmental regulations. Consequently, adjustments were made to the curriculum, reallocating time and increasing the duration of practical training. This enables trainees to directly operate analysis machines and interpret results. Additionally, in response to further educational demands reflected by survey participants, the curriculum was expanded from five to six courses, with adjustments made to existing educational programs. Based on these research outcomes, practical educational methods tailored to SME requirements are proposed, aiming to bridge the gap between regulatory compliance and industry needs.

가정전문간호사 공급 확대를 위한 방안: 석사후과정과 자격시험 (Expanding the Supply of Home Health Nurses : Post-Master's Program and Certification Examination)

  • Purpose: The study aim was to examine the home healthcare system and relevant education, as well as the special certification examination, and propose a plan to increase the supply of home health nurses. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using data from research articles, Korean and U.S. educational institutes and organizations, Korean national statistical data, government press releases, and related medical legislation. Results: Between 2005 and 2006, 763 home health nurses were certified through the special qualification examination; however, in the 16 years from 2007 to 2023 (after the graduate-level program was established), a total of 555 home health nurses were certified, with an average of approximately 35 per year. Currently, 790 home health nurses are working at 194 medical institutions nationwide. Relatively few institutions exist in rural areas, and the supply of home health nurses is low. Only seven educational institutions offer home health nurse certification programs, with a total of 77 designated students. In contrast to Korea, post-master's certification courses are offered in the U.S.. Conclusion: To expand the supply of home health nurses, we recommend revising the rules for the special qualification examination and introducing a post-master's certification program for home health nurses. Future studies should provide additional education for applicants from other specialties in post-master's certification programs.

산업체 수요기반의 노인치위생학 및 실습 교육과정 운영 사례 연구 (A Case study on geriatric dental hygiene and practical education courses based on industry demand)

  • 연구의 배경 및 목적: 본 연구에서는 노인구강관리에 대한 산업체 수요기반의 교육과정을 개발하여 운영함으로써 노인치위생학 교육의 효과를 확인해 보고자 진행하였다. 연구방법: 산업체 수요기반 현장중심 실무교육에 따른 전공역량달성도, 노인치위생과정 인식, 수업만족도의 전후차이를 검증하기 위하여 비모수 분석으로 윌콕슨 부호순위 검정(Wilcoxon signed rank test)을 수행하였으며, 각 요인간의 연관성을 확인하기 위해 스피어만 상관분석(Spearman's correlation analysis)을 수행하였다(p<0.05). 결과: 전공역량달성도의 경우 산업체 수요기반 현장중심 실무교육을 수행 후 '노인과의 의사소통 역량'이 유의미하게 향상되었다(p=0.031). 고찰: 노인치위생학 교육과정은 산업체 현장에서 활용가능한 실무중심의 교육과정이 학습자에게 제공되었을 때 노인에 대한 실제적인 이해와 노인구강관리에 대한 현장실무전공역량이 더욱 개발될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

간호학사 편입학제도의 교과과정 비교분석 (Comparative analysis of RN-BSN Program in Korea and U. S. A.)

  • In response of the increasing demand for professional degree in nursing, some university in Korea offers RN-BSN program for R. N. from diploma in nursing. However, RN-BSN program in Korea is in formative period. Therefore, the purpose of this survey study is for the comparative analysis of RN-BSN curriculum in Korea and U.S.A. In this study, subjects consisted of 18 department of nursing in university and 5 RN-BSN programs in Korea and 18 department of nursing in university and 12 RN-BSN programs in U.S.A. For earn the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the student earns 134 of mean credits in U.S.A., whereas 150.3 of mean credits in Korea. The mean credit for clinical pratice is 30.1 in U.S.A., whereas 23.9 in Korea. Students are assigned to individually planned clinical experiences under the direction of a preceptor in U.S.A. In RN-BSN program, total mean credits through lecture and clinical practice for earn the degree of BSN is 35.5(lecture : 27.7, practice ; 7.8)in U.S.A., whereas,48.1 (lecture;42.1, practice;6.0) in Korea. RN-BSN program can be taken on a full-or-part time basis in U.S.A., whereas didn't in Korea. Especially, emphasis is place on the advanced nursing practicum that focus on the role of the professional nurse in providing health care to individuals, families, and groups in community setting in U.S.A. 27.7 of mean credits was earned through lecture in U.S.A., whereas 42.1 of mean credits in Korea. It means that RN-BSN program in Korea is the lesser development in teaching method and appraisal method than in U.S.A. Students of RN-BSN program in U.S.A. can earns credit through CLEP, NLN achievement test, portfolio review session etc as well as lecture. Therefore, the authors suggests some recommendations for the development of curriculum of RN-BSN program in Korea based on comparative analysis of RN-BSN curricula in U.S.A. and Korea. 1. The curriculum of RN-BSN Program in nursing was required to do some alterations. Nursing care, today, is complex and ever changing. According to change of public need, RN-BSN curriculum intensified primary care program in community setting, geriatric nursing, marketing skill, computer language. 2. The various and new methods of earning credit should be developed. That is, the students will earn credits through the transfer of previous nursing college credits, accredited examination of university, advanced placement examination, portfolio review session, case study, report, self-directed learning and so on. Flexible teaching place should ile offered. 3. Flexible teaching place should be offered. The RN-BSN curriculum should accommodate each RN student's geographical needs and school/work schedule. Therefore, the university should search a variety of teaching places and the RN students can obtain their degrees comfortably throughout the teaching place such as lecture room inside the health care agency and establishment of the branch school in each student's residence area. 4. The RN-BSN program should offer a long distance education to place-bound RN student in many parts of Korea. That is, from the main office of university, the RN-BSN courses are delivered to many areas by Internet, EdNet (satellite telecommunication) and other non-traditional methods. 5. For allowing RN student to take nursing courses, program length should be various, depending upon the student's study/work schedule. That is, the various term systems such as semester, three terms, quarter systems and the student's status like full time or part time should be considered. Therefore, the student can take advantage of the many other educational and professional opportunities, making them available during the school year.

골프장 그린의 볼마크 수리방법에 따른 벤트그래스의 회복속도 비교 (Comparison of Bentgrass Recovery Speed on Golf Green Followed by Methods of Ball Mark Repair Practise)

  • 본 연구는 골프장 그린의 볼마크 수리방법 중 잔디 회복이 빠른 효과적인 방법을 규명하고자 수행하였다. 볼마크 수리방법은 대조구(볼 마크 수리 않음, A방법), 미국의 전통적 2가지 방법(USGA B방법, GCSAA C방법), 국내 골프장의 인력에 의한 3가지 방법(안성베네스트 D, 스카이72 E, 레이크사이드 F방법), 볼마크 수리기(6, 8, 14날)에 의한 3가지 방법(G, H, I방법) 등 모두 9가지 방법이 적용되었다. 공시된 그린의 벤트그래스 품종은 'Penncross', 'T-1', 'CY-2' 3품종이었다. 본 시험은 2009년 9월에서 11월까지 서울 레이크 사이드 골프장(용인시 모현면 능원리)의 nursery에서 행하였다. 전체 벤트그래스 3품종의 평균적 처리별 볼마크 회복율(%)은 E, D, C, B, F, I, H, G, A 순으로 빨랐으며 인력에 의한 볼마크 수리방법이 칼날이 부착된 수리기에 의한 방법보다 효과적이었다. 'Penncross'품종의 볼마크 회복율은 E, D, B, C, F, I, H, A, G 순으로 빨랐고, 'T-1' 품종의 볼마크 회복율은 D, E, B, F, C, H, I, A, G 순으로 빨랐으며, 'CY-2' 품종의 볼 마크 회복율은 D, E, C, F, B, H, G, I, A 순으로 빨랐다. 품종에 따른 볼마크 회복속도는 'CY-2', 'Penncross', 'T-1' 순이었다. 이상의 결과 볼마크 수리는 스카이72 골프장의 인력에 의한 방법인 '볼 마크 중앙의 피해 잔디를 포크로 제거한 후, 손으로 잔디를 두드리면서 안쪽으로 모으고 포크로 끌어당기면서 더 모은다. 둥근 나무막대로 잔디를 평탄하게 다진 후, 마지막으로 잔디에 물을 주는 방법'이 가장 효과적인 볼마크 수립방법으로 나타났다.
