은유적 과학 용어들에 대한 고등학생들의 인식 및 이해도 조사 (Korean High School Students' Perception and Understanding of Highly Metaphorical Science Terminologies)

  • 본 연구는 오래된 은유적 과학 용어들과 2009 개정교육과정에 새로 포함된 은유적 과학 용어들에 대한 학생들의 인식과 이해정도에 대해 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 제7차 과학과 교육과정과 2009 개정 과학과 교육과정에서 은유적 과학 용어들을 선정하였으며, 대상 학생들은 제7차 교육과정에 따른 과학을 학습한 고등학생 176명과 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 과학을 학습한 학생 175명을 대상으로 조사하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제7차 교육과정과 2009개정교육과정 둘 다에 포함되어 있는 오래된 은유적 용어에 대해서는 개정 교육과정에 의해 학습한 그룹과 7차 교육과정에 의해 학습한 그룹 모두 은유적으로 이해하는 학생보다 교과서의 표현 그대로 또는 부분적으로 과학적으로 이해하는 학생의 수가 많았다. 이 경향은 개정 교육과정에 의해 학습한 그룹과 7차 교육과정에 의해 학습한 그룹 사이에 차이가 거의 없었다. 둘째, 2009 개정 교육과정에 새로 포함된 은유적 과학 용어들에 대해서는 '블랙홀'과 같이 방송 매체나 인쇄매체를 통해 자주 접할 수 있는 개념들은 과학적으로 설명하려고 하는 경향이 어느 정도 있지만 거의 일상생활 속에서 접하지 못하는 은유적 과학 용어들은 학습 후에도 과학적으로 설명하는 것을 매우 어려워했다. 과학에서 오래 사용한 은유적 용어들의 경우에는 과학적인 이해로 변화하는 경향이 높긴 하지만 새로운 은유적 용어들의 경우에는 학생들이 개념을 바르게 이해하기 전에 그 용어가 가지는 은유적인 의미가 학생들로 하여금 과학적 이해를 어렵게 하는 것으로 보인다.

  • In Lacanian terms, the real, which is a non-representative Ding an sich, is indirectly approachable only in and through language. This 'speaking of the real' is made possible through a restoration of the missing link between one signifier, S1 and another signifier, S2, as is manifested in the Lacanian formula of metaphor. In Freudian terms of textual metaphor, the missing link is restored by substituting a new edition for an old edition of one's historical text of life. This is what this essay means by the metaphorical/dualistic structure of the analytic/literary text. And this is a way of talking about an intertextuality between literature and psychoanalysis in the sense of the 'text as psyche' and the 'psyche as text.' Applying the 'signifying substitution' to the Oedipus complex, the Oedipal child can find a meaning(s), "my erotic indulgement with my Mom is wrong" by metaphorically substituting S2: the Name of the Father for S1: the Desire of the Mother. This meaning leads to the constitution of the human subject and the formation of the incest taboo, one of the most significant distinctive features of the human being as distinguished from the animals. We can see a similar metaphorical structure of S1-S2 taking place in the literary texts such as Macbeth and "Dover Beach": in the course of the stage of life being substituted for the primal scene in the former, and the plain of Tucydides for a bed scene in the latter, respectively.

한의학 기초이론 연구와 한의학 이론, 용어의 은유적 이해 (Searching for a New Path to Research on Basic Theory of Korean Medicine: Metaphorical Understanding of Korean Medicine Theories and Terminologies)

  • This paper examines whether the conceptual metaphor theory, which has been recently treated as important research topic in the field of cognitive linguistics, can be a new method that can promote the modernization of basic Korean medicine (KM) theory. In addition, the significance and potential of this study are reviewed by looking at Chinese research cases that applied this theory to Traditional Chinese Medicine theories and terminologies. The results are summarized as follows. From the viewpoint of metaphoric cognition, KM is a medicine that attempts to understand the human body (microcosm) through nature (great universe) by metaphorically projecting human experiences of nature on the human body based on the thought of correspondence between nature and human (天人相應). The language system of KM is based on a metaphor that extends our experience of nature to the human body, and an abundance of metaphors can be seen throughout the language of KM. Understanding and interpreting KM theories and terminologies from a metaphorical point of view allow us to understand the nature of KM theoretical key terms more deeply than now. And this understanding can help define and describe KM theoretical key terms and promote the modernization of KM theory research. In addition, various image schema that plays an important role in the metaphorical expansion of physical experience can be used for modeling KM theory. Research of KM theories and terminologies from a metaphorical point of view can serve as a bridge between traditional KM theory and modernization research, opening a new path to the modernization of basic KM theory in difficult situations.

감성주거공간디자인을 위한 신소재의 은유적 표현 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Metaphorical Expression Characteristics of New Materials for Emotional Housing Space Design)

  • This study analyzed metaphorical characteristics of composite materials in terms of a visual aspect on a new material that is applicable for housing space. The results are as follows. First, the recent trend of housing space tends to stimulate emotions of residents through visual finishing materials, and for this reason, visual expression of a new material that is applicable to finishing materials plays an important role. Second, convertibleness, association and duplicity were selected as items of metaphorical expressions through the precedent studies. Third, most of combinations of materials were shown different from the existing materials in an expressive characteristic of composite materials through analysis, and application of a technology showed a different visual effect of patterns and textures from the existing materials. This implies that visual expression and directing are being attempted using such technology on finishing materials of housing space with development of digital technologies. Fourth, for metaphorical characteristics of composite material for housing space, combination of various materials and a digital technology were applied on convertibleness. For association, a combination of materials that have each different characteristic associated with the third material, and combination with subsidiary material of optical fiber and a digital technology were appled for duplicity. Data obtained from the results of this study has high efficiency in planning finishing materials for emotional housing space in future, and it will be basic data for a study on development of new finishing materials.

서양복식에 나타난 양적과장의 미의식에 관한 연구 (II) - 현대패션을 중심으로 - (The Aesthtics Consciousness of Voluminous Enlargement in the Western Costume - In the 20th Century -)

  • This Studies on 20th century fashion was carried out according to the classification of the times as made up Belle Epoque, New Look, Big Look, and Body-Consciousness. Aside from research in literatures, research into 20th fashion also include the analysis of photo had been taken from various collection. The enlargement beauty of costume had been place under the aesthetic category and, by interpreting the analogies of presented in aesthetic consciousness. the true nature of the voluminous enlargement in costume had been traced. To conclude, this study finds there are between the aesthetic characteristic differences in the aesthetic consciousness of the costumes in history and the present-day fashion. The aesthetic consciousness of the voluminous enlargement of the present-day was found to have the following characteristic ; (1) History-oriented tradition (2) Metaphorica autonomous (3) Freedom of breaking with restriction (4) Dismantling the irregularity (5) Hedonistic play instinct (6) Psychological compensation (7) Sexual sensuality (8) Ideal of the times (9) Aesthetic ornament (10) Feeling of satisfaction through self-enlargement. From list above. metaphorical sensuality, aesthetic ornament and the feeling of satisfaction driven by Self-Enlargement are the same characteristics found in the aesthetics consciousness of the voluminous enlargement of the costume In history in that they are the aesthetic consciousness above time and space. It is metaphorical sensuality which transform woman's body in to distorted images as influenced by both capitalism and materialism in the last 20 years. These are represented by the sadomasochistic and fetish images as the woman's metaphorical voluminous enlargement is apparently becoming more positive, radical and obscene especially in terms of expression.

디자이너 계한희의 카이(KYE) 컬렉션에 나타난 스테이트먼트 (The Statement in KYE Collection by Designer Kathleen Kye)

  • Centered on Kathleen Kye, a designer who conveyed messages on social issues through her dresses, and established her own identity, this study aimed to examine what theme, method of expression and inner meaning her 'statement' had, as a way of expressing a critical awareness. After reviewing discussions by Duggan G. G. as well as dictionary definitions, statement fashion design can be defined as a work or fashion shows containing a message of a designer who is free from a particular trend or consumerism in various social issues. Statement fashion designers give opposing messages on social issues through their fashion collections. As a result, research shows that contemporary statement fashion designers are expressing themes of a fashion systems, fetishism, body image, collision, environment, as well as the socially disadvantaged by appropriation, reuse, slogan, metaphorical pattern and performance. Satire, awakening, challenge and support can be derived from the inner meaning of contemporary statement fashion design. In terms of the theme, method of expression and inner meaning, this study showed that KYE collection of the designer Kathleen Kye expresses critical awareness on the modern society. Research findings reveal that KYE collection include the following themes: long-term youth unemployment, conflict collision in war or on the Internet, fetishism by youth in a get-rich-quick fever, environmental issue causing destruction of an ecosystem by decrease in bee population, school violence and the socially disadvantaged related to alienated immigrants. Also, as a method of expression themes, such as metaphorical patterns, were used. The patterns used images including a skeleton, gun, heart, rope, plaster, homeless box, bee, honeycomb, chain and a slot machine. On the other hand, the inner meaning of statement in KYE collection showed satire on social issues, awakening on social issues unrecognized by the masses, and support for the socially disadvantaged.

현대 패션디자인에 표현된 새 이미지 연구 (A Study on the Bird Image Expressed in Modern Fashion Design)

  • As a free creature that can fly in the sky, the bird has been an object of admiration and mystery and a mediator between human beings and the heavens. This study aims to clarify the aesthetic value of birds through study of the various expressions of the bird image on clothing and by the formative will of designers. Based on the general examination of the bird image through the study of documents, this study is composed of a case analysis, which reveals on modern fashion designs. Additionally, the forms of expression of the bird image are organized according to the stereoscopic expression of shaping, the relief expression of handicraft decoration, the flat expression of surface design, and the characteristic expression of wings and feathers. The aesthetic characteristics revealed by the expression patterns are metaphorical symbolism, surrealistic humor, lyrical naturalness, and fantastical femininity. Since antiquity, the bird image continuously recreated by artists has offered aesthetic value in terms of formativeness in the external form and symbolism in the internal form. This study would help to understand the diversity of creation in contemporary fashion design.

Experiencing the Art/Craft/Handmade/Studio Furniture Aesthetics in Postmodernism Theoretically(II) -Interpreting the Postmodern Furniture Aesthetics in terms of Symbol and Metaphor-

  • This study explored interpretation of the symbolical and metaphorical aesthetics in experiencing art/craft/handmade/studio furniture theoretically for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class' by the Korea Forest Service because the class tends to focus on making simple wood works involved just in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. After the lesson one on defining the postmodern aesthetics in New Design furniture as metaphor in the previous paper, I developed lesson two for an aesthetics of art and everyday life with wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical and symbolical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism. As statement of objective in the second lesson, I explored that students in elementary schools personally transform and interpret the postmodern aesthetics of New Design furniture metaphorically with the meanings of symbol. As a result, the students will be able to write about the aesthetics of New Design furniture as metaphor in interpretation transformed by his/her perspective of a piece of selected New Design furniture.

중학교 천문학 용어에 대한 학생의 오개념 유형 탐색 (Exploring Middle School Students' Types of Misconceptions on Astronomy Terminologies)

  • 이 연구에서는 2009 개정 교육과정 중학교 지구 과학 교과서에 제시되는 천문 영역의 과학 용어 113개에 대한 중학교 3학년 학생 5인의 용어에 대한 체감 난이도, 이해 확신도와 정의를 검사지를 통해 살펴보고, 추가 면담을 통해 천문 용어에 대한 학생들의 오개념 유형과 그 대표적인 용어 - 오개념의 예시를 분석했다. 학생들이 제시한 용어의 정의는 크게 정답과 낮은 수준의 이해, 오답으로 분류되었으며, 낮은 수준의 이해는 상위 수준의 정의 서술, 개념의 미분화로 하위 분류되었고, 오답은 과학적 오인에 의한 방해, 사전 지식 미비 등으로 하위 분류되었다. 용어로 인한 오개념과 선행 오개념이 구분될 수 있다는 점에서, 용어로 인한 오개념은 용어 변경이라는 방법을 통해 오개념 형성을 미연에 방지할 수 있으므로 효율적 처방이 될 수 있다. 또한, 은유적 용어로 인한 장점과 단점을 학생들이 인식하고 있으며, 자신의 이해 수준을 잘 파악하고 있다는 점은 학습자 스스로가 자신의 오개념을 인지하는 것이 오개념 수정의 첫 번째 단계임을 고려할 때 좋은 출발점이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 과학 교육에서의 용어는 중요한 논의 대상으로, 시대에 따라 적합한 용어의 선정을 위해 노력하고 있으며 과학 용어가 바뀌기도 한다. 이 연구 결과가 용어의 수정에 대한 논의의 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

포스트모더니즘 현대미술과 가구디자인의 조형적 특성에 관한 연구 - 1980년대 작품의 사례를 통한 상호연관성을 중심으로 - (A Study of the Formative Features of Painting and Furniture Design in Postmodernism - Focused on the correlation with their examples in the 1980s -)

  • Postmodernism, the theory and philosophy that swayed the world in the late 20th century, can be interpreted in various ways as a critical reaction against modernism as well as, in one way, the logical extension of modernism itself. Thus, an extensive understanding of the social and temporal background of the birth of postmodernism and a macroscopic and correlative approach toward the related artistic circles, especially art, were carried out before a formative discussion on the furniture design of postmodernism. Postmodemism in the field of furniture design shares the history of birth and spirit with Memphis, the progressive design group established by Ettore Sottsass in Milan, 1980. This study identifies the formative features of pestrnodernistic furniture design around those works that express the trend of postmodernism, in particular, chairs, as well as the designers who participated in the first Memphis exhibition at the Milan Furniture Fair. By identifying such features, the correlation between postmodemism and those features expressed in the works of postmodernism paintings were examined. The works of Anselm Kiefer, a German nee-expressionist who became famous through the Venice Biennale 1980, and five young Italian trans-avant garde authors were selected as the scope of this case study. The characteristics of postmodernism in modern art were analyzed in terms of themes, shape, and content and were derived as follows; Firstly, borrowed and past-oriented themes, secondly, deconstructive, atypical, plural, emotional, and intuitional shapes, and thirdly, basic, metaphorical, and abstract content, The formative characteristics of chair design in postmodemism furniture design are as follows; Firstly, deconstructive, symbolic, and abstract shapes, past-oriented, reactionary, and primitive colors and closing, as well as the characteristic of delivering commercial and metaphorical messages. The subjects and motives of art have been succeeded by the characteristics of color and closing in furniture, the shape and techniques of fine arts by the characteristics of furniture shape, and the content of art by that of furniture. They share key words and characteristics.
