  • Arc metal spraying is a widely used method for improving the performance of construction structures such as corrosion resistance and electromagnetic wave shielding. However, when arc metal spraying is applied to a concrete structure, adhesion performance may deteriorate. Therefore, the effect of each surface treatment method on the physical properties between the arc metal spray coating and concrete was reviewed by evaluating the deposition efficiency and adhesion performance according to the arc metal spray surface treatment method (surface reinforcing agent, roughening agent, and sealing agent). As a result, it is suggested as an optimal surface treatment condition to induce non-interface failure by using a roughening agent and to improve the properties of concrete and metal coatings by applying a surface reinforcing agent and sealing agent.

  • This study done to evaluate some surface treatment methods in metal coping which can increase the bond strength between porcelain and metal. Therefore this experiment was performed according to the Mc Lean's Theory of bond strength between porcelain and strength between porcelain and metal. In the experiment the author measured respective thermal expansion coefficents in three types of metal(Tallasium, Vera Bond and Rexillium) and Vita Porcelain to get the differences in the coefficents between porcelain and metals. And using insteron testing machine, the author also performed Planar interface shear bond tests on the 45 specimens(15 specimens in oxide surface, rough surface and fine surface treatment methods respectively) to measure bond strength between metal and porcelain. The results Were as follows, 1. The differences in thermal expansion coefficients between three types of metal and Vita procelain: Talladium - $1.2\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Vera Bond - $1.6\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Rexillium - $1.9\;10^{-6/0}\;C$. 2. The bond strength in oxide surface on the Shear bond test was the lowest among the treatment methods. 3. There was no significant differences in treatment methods of rough surface of fine surface. 4. In the oxide surface treatment method, there were significant differences(P<0.05)between Vera bond and Rexillium, and between Talladium and Rexillium. 5. In the fine surface treatment, there was a significant difference(P<0.05)between Talladium and Rexillium.

  • In dental prosthetics, the application of metal-ceramic restorations has steadily increased since their introduction. This is due to excellent esthetics in combination with high mechanical stability. In order to optimum bond strength between metal and ceramics, controlled oxidation of metal substructure is essential factor. Beryllium containing and beryllium free Ni-Cr alloys for metal-ceramic restorations were evaluated for the metal-ceramic bond strength by changing heat treatment for oxide formation. A mechanical three-point bending test was employed to evaluate the interfacial bond strength of metal-ceramic. In each metal, plate type specimens were used for mechanical three-point bending test. With Ni-Cr alloys for metal ceramics, mechanical three-point bending test showed that double degassing was more available preheat treatment method than another. It was found that beryllium containing Ni-Cr alloys are more effective than beryllium-free for metal-ceramic bond strength.

  • Functional properties are available with sputtering. But sputtering treatment alone cannot got a good fastness performance to washing, rubbing and light. This research was objected to investigate optimum condition by sputtering on polyester through various processing conditions such as ion current and treatment time, and then various resin treated onto metal coated polyester fabrics in order to increase washing fastness of metal membrane. As the results, the optimum conditions revealed 1500 mA of ion current, 2 min of treatment time in sputter, and suitable resin concentrations were 2% of o.w.s (on the weight of solution) in resin treatment. Therefore, we could get enhanced anti-static effect and flex stiffness as well as washing fastness in sputtered polyester fabric with various resin treatment, for example, melamine and polyurethane.

  • Traditionally the supernatant after chemical treatment of metal acid wastewater is discharged in environment. The supernatant can be used as a coagulant as it contains effective metals. The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of treatment of dyeing wastewater using the supernatant after treatment by magnesium hydroxide and dolomite($Ca{\cdot}Mg(CO_3)_2$), of acidic metal wastewater. In dyeing wastewater treatment with the supernatant, optimum pH and dosage were determined. COD, turbidity and color were analyzed to evaluate the performance of treatment. In the case of magnesium hydroxide, the optimum dosage was 10%(v/v) for supernatant A and 3%(v/v) for supernatant B. Color, turbidity and COD removal was 99~100%, 85~97% and 43~53%, respectively. In the case of dolomite, the optimum dosage was 10%(v/v) for supernatant A and 3% for supernatant B. Color, turbidity and COD removal was 96~99%, 62~9l% and 52~53%, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a special heat treatment on Pd-Au-Ag metal-ceramic alloy after degassing treatment and on changes in the hardness of the alloy during the firing process. Methods: Specimen alloys were cast and subjected to degassing at 900℃ for 10 minutes. These specimens were then subjected to a special heat treatment at 600℃ for 15 minutes in a dental porcelain furnace. Further, the specimens were subjected to simulated firing in the porcelain furnace. The resulting specimens were then tested for hardness, and changes in the microstructure were observed. Results: There was a decrease in the hardness of the alloy during the simulated firing of the cast alloy due to the coarsening of the particles. Meanwhile, additional heat treatment after degassing was found to play a crucial role in preventing a decrease in hardness. This treatment effectively suppressed the coarsening of the precipitates during repeated firing at high temperatures. Conclusion: Specific heat treatment of the Pd-Au-Ag metal-ceramic alloy prevented a decrease in its hardness and extended the lifespan of the metal-ceramic prosthesis.

  • To study the effects of metal ions on the activity of anti-oxidase enzymes, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) and isozyme patterns of Brassica juncea have been studied after treating with CD, Cu, Zn, and Al. The activity of SOD after treating with metal ions was higher than that of untreated control. SOD activity in leaves increased by treatment of 50 ppm of Zn and 500 ppm of Al. POD in stems gave highest activity after treating with 500 ppm of Cu. When the activity was compared by plant parts, lowest POD activity was observed in leaves in which protein content was higher than other tissues. When the activity was expressed as percentage of control, SOD activity was increased after treating with metal ions. SOD activity in leaves and roots of metal treated plant was significantly increased under the metal ions stress conditions. In the roots of 50 ppm of Zn treated plant, SOD activity was extremly high. POD activity was inhibited with Cd and Zn treatment in all parts of the plant. However, in leaves and stems, there was marked increase in activity after treating with Cu. The patterns of SOD isozyme after metal treatment show that two bands were stained in all metal ion treated and that no new band appeared. POD isozyme band intensity resulting from the treatment of metal ions was in order of roots > stems > leaves, but there was no significant difference.

  • The effect of heat treatment on the adhesion between Cu-18wt% Cr film and polyimide has been studied by using T-peel test, AES, and XRD. Cu-18wt% Cr alloy and pure Cu films were sputter deposited onto pol-yimide. Cu was electroplated before and after heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hr and 2 hrs respectively. The adhesion of metal film onto polyimide was considerably good before heat treatment, but heat treatment re-duced the peel adhesion strength in all specimens. The reduction in adhesion in adhesion strength values in the specimens which were plated after heat treatment was mainly due to Cr-O rich pahse formed in the metal/polyimide in-terface. In the specimens which were heat treated after plating, the enhanced ductility in the metal films con-tributes the peel adhesion strength by increasing the amount of deformation in metal strips.
