  • Electrical and optical properties of semitransparent Ag and Al layer were studied, which are used for the electrodes in top-emission organic light-emitting diodes. Sheet resistance and transmittance of visible light through a thin layer were measured and analyzed. Several thin metal layers of Ag and Al were deposited onto a glass substrate up to a thickness of 50 nm using a thermal evaporation. Sheet resistance measurements show that a layer thickness is needed more than 15 nm and 20 nm for Ag and Al, respectively, when a proper sheet resistance is assumed to be less than $50{\Omega}/sq$. From the measurements of transmittance of visible light through a thin-metal layer, metallic behavior was observed when the layer thickness is over 25 nm for both films. Thus, from a study of sheet resistance and transmittance of visible light, a minimum proper thickness of semitransparent metal layer is 20 nm and 25 nm for Ag and Al, respectively.

  • Metal additive manufacturing (AM), also known as metal three-dimensional (3D) printing, produces 3D metal products by repeatedly adding and solidifying metal materials layer by layer. During the metal AM process, products experience repeated local melting and cooling using a laser or electron beam, resulting in product defects, such as warpage, cracks, and internal pores. Such defects adversely affect the final product. This paper proposes the in situ monitoring-based warpage prediction of metal AM products with experimental feature extraction. The temperature profile of the metal AM substrate during the process was experimentally collected. Time-domain features were extracted from the temperature profile, and their relationships to the warpage mechanism were investigated. The standard deviation showed a significant linear correlation with warpage. The findings from this study are expected to contribute to optimizing process parameters for metal AM warpage reduction.

  • It is necessary to fabricate uniformly dispersed nanoscale catalyst materials with high activity and long-term stability for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells with excellent electrochemical characteristics of the oxygen reduction reaction and hydrogen oxidation reaction. Platinum is known as the best noble metal catalyst for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells because of its excellent catalytic activity. However, given that Pt is expensive, considerable efforts have been made to reduce the amount of Pt loading for both anode and cathode catalysts. Meanwhile, the atomic layer deposition (ALD) method shows excellent uniformity and precise particle size controllability over the three-dimensional structure. The research progress on noble metal ALD, such as Pt, Ru, Pd, and various metal alloys, is presented in this review. ALD technology enables the development of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells with excellent reactivity and durability.

  • As the mask design rules get smaller, the probability of the process failure becomes higher due to the narrow overlay margin between the contact and metal interconnect layers. To obtain the minimum process margin, a tabbing and cutting method is applied with the rule based optical proximity correction to the metal layer, so that the protection to bridge problems caused by the insufficient space margin between the metal layers can be accomplished. The side-lobe phenomenon from the attenuated phase shift mask with the tight design nile is analyzed through the aerial image simulation for test patterns with variation of the process parameters such as numerical aperture, transmission rate, and partial coherence. The corrected patterns are finally generated by the rules extracted from the side-lobe simulation.

  • The shell part is made of 2-layered blank because of functional requirements. To investigate the draw formability in this kind of part, the 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis process should be stipulated. First of all, treatment of contact with each blank must be considered to prevent the penetration on the each blank. Subsequently, applying the draw bead force is considered carefully because application of drawbead force for analysis is different with equivalent drawbead force. Formability as like crack, neck and wrinkles is estimated by FLD(Forming Limit Diagram) and thinning. A feasibility of the 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis process study is verified compare 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis with experimental results.

  • The formation of a thicker hard alloyed layer have been investigated on the surface of aluminum cast alloy (AC2B) by PTA overlaying process with Cr, Cu and Ni motel powders under the condition of overlaying current 125-200A. overlaying speed 150 mm/min and different powder feeding rate 5-20 g/min. In addition the characteristics of hardening and wear resistance of alloyed layer here been examined in relation to the microstructure of alloyed layer. Main results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) There was an optimum overlaying condition to get a good alloyed layer with smooth surface. This good layer became easy to be formed as increasing overlaying current and decreasing powder feeding rate under a constant overlaying speed. 2) Cu powder was the most superior one in metal powders used due to a wide optimum overlaying condition range, uniform hardness distribution of Hv250-350, good oar resistance and freedom from cracking in alloyed layer with fine hyper-eutectic structure. 3) On the contrary, irregular hardness distribution was usually obtained in Cr ar Ni alloyed layers of which hardness was increased as Cr or Ni contents and reached to maximum hardness of about Hv400-850 at about 60wt%cr or 40wt%Ni in alloyed layer. 4) Cracking occurred in Cr or Ni alloyed layers with higher hardness than Hv250-300 at mere than 20-25wt% of Cr or Ni contents in alloyed layer. Porosity was observed in all alloyed layers but decreased by usage of spherical powder with smooth surface.

  • The thick and hard alloyed layer was formed on the surface of Aluminum Cast Alloy(AC2B) by PTA overlaying process with Cr, Cu and Ni metal powders under the condition of overlaying current 150A, overlaying speed 150mm/min and different powder feeding rate 5-20g/min. The characteristics of hardening and were resistance of alloyed layer have been investigated in relation to microstructure of alloyed layer. As a result, it was made clear that Cu powder was the most superier one in three metal powders used due to an uniform hardness distribution of Hv 250-350, good wear resistance and freedom from cracking in alloyed layer of which microstructure consisted of hypereutectic. On the contrary, irregular hardness distribution was usually obtained in Cr or Ni alloyed layers of which hardness was increased as Cr or Ni contents and reached to maximum hardness of about Hv 400-850 at about 60wt% Cr or 40wt% Ni in alloyed layer. However the cracking occurred in these alloyed layers with higher hardness than Hv 250-300 at more than 20-25wt% of Cr or Ni contents in alloyed layer. Wear rate of alloyed layer was decreased to 1/10 in Cu alloyed layer and 1/5 or 1/3 in Cr or Ni alloyed layer with same hardness of about Hv 300 in comparison with that of base metal at higher sliding speed.

  • This paper presents results of experimental studies on the heat transfer and solidification of the molten metal pool with overlying coolant with boiling. The metal pool is heated from the bottom surface and coolant is injected onto the molten metal pool. As a result, the crust, which is a solidified layer, may form at the top of the molten metal pool. Heat transfer is accomplished by a conjugate mechanism, which consists of the natural convection of the molten metal pool, the conduction in the crust layer and the convective boiling heat transfer in the coolant. This work examines the crust formation and the heat transfer rate on the molten metal pool with boiling coolant. The simulant molten pool material is tin (Sn) with the melting temperature of 232$^{\circ}C$. Demineralized water is used as the working coolant. The crust layer thickness was ostensibly varied by the heated bottom surface temperature of the test section, but not much affected by the coolant injection rate. The correlation beかeon the Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number in the molten metal Pool region of this study is compared against the crust formation experiment without coolant boiling and the literature correlations. The present experimental results are higher than those from the experiment without coolant boiling, but show general agreement with the Eckert correlation, with some deviations in the high and low ends of the Rayleigh number. This discrepancy is currently attributed to concurrent rapid boiling of the coolant on top of the metal layer.
