A new macrocyclic ligand 1,15,18-triaza-3,4;12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-cycloeicosane (NdienOdien$H_4$ = $N_3O_3$) has been synthesized and identified by element analysis, NMR and IR spectrophotometry. Stepwise protonation constants of ligand are determined by potentiometry in 95% methanol solution(I = 0.1 mol $dm^{-3}$, $Me_4$NCl). log $K_1$;log $K_2$;log $K_3$ = 9.1;8.1;3.6.The kinetics of the acid-promoted dissociation reactions of complex cations of nickel(II) and copper(III) with NdienOdien and NdienOen macrocyclic ligands having, respectively, 17 and 20 ring members, have been studied spectrophotometrically in HCl$O_4$ NaCl$O_4$ aqueous solutions. From the temperature effect on kinetic constant ($k_{obs}$), the parameters of activation(${\Delta}H^{\neq}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$) of dissociation reaction for $ML^{2+}$ with $H^+$ ion have been determined. We have proposed the possible mechanism of the reaction from the data obtained.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of cadmium ion on activities of cadmium-adapted malate dehydrogenase (adapted-MDH), which is defined to be an enzyme obtained from an extreme cadmium-tolerant yeast Hansenula anomaul B-7 grown in medium containing 1 mM cadmium ion. Cadmium-nonadapted malate dehydrogenase (nonadapted-MDH), which is defined to be enzyme expressed in the cells grown in $Cd^{2+}$ -free medium was also characterized by the same manner. Activities of the adapted-MDH and the nonadapted-MDH were strongly induced to 450% and to 150% in comparision with the control examined with 1 mM $Cd^{2+}$, respectively. The adapted-MDH activity was stimulated to 147%, 150%, and 135% compared with the control analyzed with 1 mM $Zn^{2+}$, 1 mM $Mn^{2+}$, and 1 mM $Ca^{2+}$, respectively and to 925%, and 250% compared with the control analyzed in the presence of 2 mM $Cd^{2+}$, and 2.5 mM $Zn^{2+}$, respectively. Km values of the adapted-MDH and the nonadapted-MDH were calculated to be the same 6.9 mM for L-malate, respectively. The Km value of the nonadapted-MDH was not changed by $Cd^{2+}$ while Vmax of the nonadapted-MDH was increased by $Cd^{2+}$. In contrast, both the Km and the Vmax values of the adapted-MDH were changed by $Cd^{2+}$.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with a two-dimensional layered structure have been considered highly promising materials for next-generation flexible, wearable, stretchable and transparent devices due to their unique physical, electrical and optical properties. Recent studies on TMD devices have focused on developing a suitable doping technique because precise control of the threshold voltage ($V_{TH}$) and the number of tightly-bound trions are required to achieve high performance electronic and optoelectronic devices, respectively. In particular, it is critical to develop an ultra-low level doping technique for the proper design and optimization of TMD-based devices because high level doping (about $10^{12}cm^{-2}$) causes TMD to act as a near-metallic layer. However, it is difficult to apply an ion implantation technique to TMD materials due to crystal damage that occurs during the implantation process. Although safe doping techniques have recently been developed, most of the previous TMD doping techniques presented very high doping levels of ${\sim}10^{12}cm^{-2}$. Recently, low-level n- and p-doping of TMD materials was achieved using cesium carbonate ($Cs_2CO_3$), octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS), and M-DNA, but further studies are needed to reduce the doping level down to an intrinsic level. Here, we propose a novel DNA-based doping method on $MoS_2$ and $WSe_2$ films, which enables ultra-low n- and p-doping control and allows for proper adjustments in device performance. This is achieved by selecting and/or combining different types of divalent metal and trivalent lanthanide (Ln) ions on DNA nanostructures. The available n-doping range (${\Delta}n$) on the $MoS_2$ by Ln-DNA (DNA functionalized by trivalent Ln ions) is between $6{\times}10^9cm^{-2}$ and $2.6{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$, which is even lower than that provided by pristine DNA (${\sim}6.4{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$). The p-doping change (${\Delta}p$) on $WSe_2$ by Ln-DNA is adjusted between $-1.0{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$ and $-2.4{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$. In the case of Co-DNA (DNA functionalized by both divalent metal and trivalent Ln ions) doping where $Eu^{3+}$ or $Gd^{3+}$ ions were incorporated, a light p-doping phenomenon is observed on $MoS_2$ and $WSe_2$ (respectively, negative ${\Delta}n$ below $-9{\times}10^9cm^{-2}$ and positive ${\Delta}p$ above $1.4{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$) because the added $Cu^{2+}$ ions probably reduce the strength of negative charges in Ln-DNA. However, a light n-doping phenomenon (positive ${\Delta}n$ above $10^{10}cm^{-2}$ and negative ${\Delta}p$ below $-1.1{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$) occurs in the TMD devices doped by Co-DNA with $Tb^{3+}$ or $Er^{3+}$ ions. A significant (factor of ~5) increase in field-effect mobility is also observed on the $MoS_2$ and $WSe_2$ devices, which are, respectively, doped by $Tb^{3+}$-based Co-DNA (n-doping) and $Gd^{3+}$-based Co-DNA (p-doping), due to the reduction of effective electron and hole barrier heights after the doping. In terms of optoelectronic device performance (photoresponsivity and detectivity), the $Tb^{3+}$ or $Er^{3+}$-Co-DNA (n-doping) and the $Eu^{3+}$ or $Gd^{3+}$-Co-DNA (p-doping) improve the $MoS_2$ and $WSe_2$ photodetectors, respectively.

The protonation constants for the macrocyclic ligands 1,15,18-triaza-3,4;12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxa cycloeicosane (NdienOdienH$_4$), 1,12,15-triaza-3,4;9,10-dibenzo-5,8-dioxa cycloheptadecane (NdienOenH$_4$), and 1,15-diaza-3,4;12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxa cycloheptadecane (NenOdienH4) have been determined by the potentiometry in aqueous solutions (25$^{\circ}C$, I = 0.1, KNO$_3$). The stability constants for complexes formed in the aqueous solution (25$^{\circ}C$, I = 0.1, KNO$_3$) between the above ligands and the metal ions (Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), and Cu(Ⅱ)) have been measured by potentiometry. The rate of the ligand substitution reaction was measured spectrophotometrically by the addition of aqueous solutions of ethylenediamine to the solution of the complex. From the study of the temperature effect on the rate constant (k$_{obs}$), activation parameters (E$_a$,${\{Delta}H^{\neq}$, and ${\{Delta}S^{\neq}$) have been determined. The possible mechanism for the substitution reaction is proposed.

Photocatalytic properties of $TiO_2$ nanopowders has been received much attention due to their high potentials for environmental applications such as remediation of polluted environments. The $TiO_2$ nanopowders doped with metal or non-metal elements have been synthesized by variety methods such as flame method, chemical vapor synthesis, sol-gel, ion implantation, which affect a doping behavior in different ways resulting in different surface characteristics, leading to different photocatalytic activity. In addition to an effect of synthesis methods, the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ nanopowders can be improved by subsequent heat-treatments. In this study, to obtain a highly efficient photocatalyst, we synthesized $TiO_2$ nanopowders doped with tungsten by the chemical vapor synthesis method (CVS) and determined their physical properties and photocatalytic activity, together with subsequent post-treatment in the range of $300^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$.

The $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$, substituting a part of Mn with Ni in the $LiMn_2O_4$, the spinel structure has good charge-discharge cycle stability and high discharge capacity at 4.7 V. In this study $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ powders were synthesized by polymerization complex method. The effect on the characteristics of synthesized $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ powders was studied with citric acid (CA) : metal ion (ME) molar ratio (5 : 1, 10 : 1, 15 : 1, 30 : 1) and calcination temperature ($500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$). Single phase of $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ was observed from XRD analysis on the powders calcined at low ($500^{\circ}C$) and high temperatures ($900^{\circ}C$). The crystalline size and crystallinity increased with calcination temperature. At low calcination temperature the particle size decreased and specific surface area increased as the CA molar ratio increased. On the other hand, high particle growth rate at high calcination temperature interfered the particle size reduction and specific surface area increase induced by the increase of CA molar ratio.

This study was performed to investigate the removal characteristics and mechanism of heavy metals using pellet-type ceramics(ZS ceramics), in which natural zeolite was mixed and calcined with converter slag. The optimal calcination temperature range was measured to be $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. The calcination time had little effect on the removal of heavy metal in acid wastewater. The adequate dose of ceramics was shown to be 2~5% for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater. The maximum removal capacity of ZS ceramics for heavy metals were observed to be Al 84.7 mg/g, Cd 37.3 mg/g, Cr 81.7 mg/g, Cu 55.6 mg/g, Fe 57.2 mg/g, Mn 32.1 mg/g, Ni 38.0 mg/g, Pb 71.6 mg/g, Zn 46.3 mg/g. The pH played a pivotal role in the removal of heavy metals by ZS ceramics. The analysis results of mechanism exhibited that the ZS ceramics could act as a multi-functional ceramics for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater by adsorption, ion-exchange, or precipitation.
New crown ether dye-Ⅰ and dye-Ⅱ having an azo group(-N=N-) were synthesized from monobenzo-15-crown-5 and dibenzo-18-crown-6. These dyes showed ${\lambda}_{max}$ of 377 and 383nm respectively. The complexes of alkali metal ions ($Na^+$, $K^+$, $Cs^+$) with dye ligands showed band shift (390~400nm) and intensity increased. For a given anion, the extraction constants are in the order of $K^+$ < $Cs^+$ < $Na^+$ for dye-Ⅰ and $Cs^+$ < $Na^+$ < $K^+$ for dye-Ⅱ. These results show that the selectivity of crown ethers toward the alkali metal ions is dependant on the charge density of cation and the size of crown ether cavity. For a given cation, the order of the extraction constant is $Cl^-$ < $Br^-$ < $I^-$ < picrate. This order coincides with the degree of anion solvation effect.
We have developed a technique for growing thin oxides (6~10 nm) by the Last step TCA method. N-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor (n-MOS) capacitor and n-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor's (MOSFET's) having a gate oxide with chlorine incorporated $SiO_2/Si$ interface have been analyzed by electrical measurements and physical methods, such as secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). The gate oxide grown with the Last strp TCA method has good characteristics as follows: the electron mobility of the MOSFET's with the Last step TCA method was increased by about 7% and the defect density at the $SiO_2/Si$ interface decreases slightly compared with that with No TCA method. In reliability estimation, the breakdown field was 18 MV/cm, 0.6 MV/cm higher than that of the gate oxide with No TCA method, and the lifetime estimated by TDDB measurement was longer than 20 years. The device lifetime estimated from hot-carrier reliability was proven to be enhanced. As the results, the gate oxide having a $SiO_2/Si$ interface incorporated with chlorine has good characteristics. Our new technique of Last step TCA method may be used to improve the endurance and retention of MOSFET's and to alleviate the degradation of thin oxides in short-channel MOS devices.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) field effect transistors and sensors use CNT as a current channel, of which the resistance varies with the gate voltage or upon molecule adsorption. Since the performance of CNT devices depends very much on the CNT/metal contact resistance, the CNT/electrode contact must be stable and the contact resistance must be small. Depending on the geometry of CNT/electrode contact, it can be categorized into the end-contact, embedded-contact (top-contact), and side-contact (bottom-contact). Because of difficulties in the sample preparation, the end-contact CNT device is seldom practiced. The embedded-contact in which CNT is embedded inside the electrode is desirable due to its rigidness and the low contact resistance. Fabrication of this structure is complicated, however, because each CNT has to be located under a high-resolution microscope and then the electrode is patterned by electron beam lithography. The side-contact is done by depositing CNT electrophoretically or by precipitating on the patterned electrode. Although this contact is fragile and the contact resistance is relatively high, the side-contact by far has been widely practiced because of its simple fabrication process. Here we introduce a simple method to embed CNT inside the electrode while taking advantage of the bottom-contact process. The idea is to utilize a eutectic material as an electrode, which melts at low temperature so that CNT is not damaged while annealing to melt the electrode to embed CNT. The lowering of CNT/Au contact resistance upon annealing at mild temperature has been reported, but the electrode in these studies did not melt and CNT laid on the surface of electrode even after annealing. In our experiment, we used a eutectic Au/Al film that melts at 250$^{\circ}C$. After depositing CNT on the electrode made of an Au/Al thin film, we annealed the sample at 250$^{\circ}C$ in air to induce eutectic melting. As a result, Au-Al alloy grains formed, under which the CNT was embedded to produce a rigid and low resistance contact. The embedded CNT contact was as strong as to tolerate the ultrasonic agitation for 90 s and the current-voltage measurement indicated that the contact resistance was lowered by a factor of 4. By performing standard fabrication process on this CNT-deposited substrate to add another pair of electrodes bridged by CNT in perpendicular direction, we could fabricate a CNT cross junction. Finally, we could conclude that the eutectic alloy electrode is valid for CNT sensors by examine the detection of Au ion which is spontaneously reduced to CNT surface. The device sustatined strong washing process and maintained its detection ability.
