  • This study aimed to propose considerations for attributes and their standardization strategies during the data collection process for electronic publications by domestic distributors for the National Library of Korea. The research identified a total of 21 essential and optional attributes based on a survey and a Focused Group Interview (FGI) with the staff responsible for legal deposit and acquisition tasks at the National Library of Korea. Additional attributes were found necessary during the data quality verification process, leading to the specification of essential and optional attributes for various types of materials, including eBooks, audiobooks, webtoons, and web novels. The standardization of attribute values, essential for enhancing the identifiability and management efficiency of electronic publications, included adherence to ISO 8601 rules for dates and times, clear designation of limited-range attribute values such as file format and adult content, and detailed description of information related to titles. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need for establishing standardized metadata requirements and continuous data quality management and monitoring systems.

  • The Korean Archaeological Dictionary, which represents Korean archaeological knowledge information, contains refined and high-quality information written by expert collective intelligence. This is a characteristic that clearly distinguishes it from overseas archaeological data archives, and can be called differentiated infrastructure data. However, it has not played a role as an information service or knowledge information platform reflecting the latest digital technology. As a way to maximize these strengths and compensate for weaknesses, it was proposed to develop and operate a GIS-based knowledge and information platform for Korean archaeology. To realize this, it is necessary to develop a title management system centered on repositories and metadata that can collect and store various information, link open linked data design and related systems, develop a search function that can analyze and visualize data in response to the big data era, and establish a WebGIS-based information service system. This will be a platform to continuously manage, supplement, and update Korean archaeological knowledge information, build a ubiquitous environment where anyone can use information anytime, anywhere, and create various types of business models.

  • The purpose of this paper is both to analyze research trends and to predict industrial flows using the meta-data from the previous studies on data quality. There have been many attempts to analyze the research trends in various fields till lately. However, analysis of previous studies on data quality has produced poor results because of its vast scope and data. Therefore, in this paper, we used a text mining, social network analysis for time series network analysis to analyze the vast scope and data of data quality collected from a Web of Science index database of papers published in the international data quality-field journals for 10 years. The analysis results are as follows: Decreases in Mathematical & Computational Biology, Chemistry, Health Care Sciences & Services, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and Medical Information Science. Increases, on the contrary, in Environmental Sciences, Water Resources, Geology, and Instruments & Instrumentation. In addition, the social network analysis results show that the subjects which have the high centrality are analysis, algorithm, and network, and also, image, model, sensor, and optimization are increasing subjects in the data quality field. Furthermore, the industrial connection analysis result on data quality shows that there is high correlation between technique, industry, health, infrastructure, and customer service. And it predicted that the Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, and Health Industry will be continuously developed. This paper will be useful for people, not only who are in the data quality industry field, but also the researchers who analyze research patterns and find out the industry connection on data quality.

  • This study aims to investigate the awareness and experiences of domestic researchers regarding data publishing, which has been recognized as a new channel of data sharing as scholarly communication evolves in the open science environment. A survey is conducted among researchers from five government-funded research institutes in the field of science and technology and members of the GeoAI Data Society to confirm the awareness of data publishing. As a result of the study, domestic researchers recognized providing explanations for data, stable access to data, citation, and quality assurance through peer review as the advantages of data journals. On the contrary, a low level of recognition for data paper as one of the research outputs was presented. With regard to the properties of data publication, the respondents answered that the data description, metadata description, and permanent identifiers are highly related, however, their recognition of the relation between the properties of data publication and the data submission to a repository and data peer review was relatively low. Finally, to expand the data publication, the need for the development of an editorial system that supports data paper peer review and cross-linking to a data repository as well as the development of a repository that supports data citation was identified. This study on the domestic researchers' experience and awareness of data publishing can provide insights for the implementation of data publishing services and infrastructure in the future.

  • In recent decades, research became more data-intensive in the fast-paced information environment. Researchers are facing new challenges in managing their research data due to the increasing volume of data-driven research and the policies of major funding agencies. Information professionals have begun to offer various data support services such as training, instruction, data curation, data management planning and data visualization. However, the emerging field of data librarians, including specific roles and competencies, has not been clearly established even though librarians are taking on new roles in data services. Therefore, there is a need to identify a set of competencies for data librarians in this growing field. The purpose of this study is to consider varying core competencies for data librarians. This exploratory study examines 95 online recruiting advertisements regarding data librarians posted between 2017 and 2021. This study finds core competencies for data librarians that include skills in technology, communication and interpersonal relationships, training/consulting, service, library management, metadata knowledge and knowledge of data curation. Specific core technology skills include knowledge of statistical software and computer programming. This study contributes to an understanding of core competencies for data librarians to help future information professionals prepare their competencies as data librarians and the instructors who develop and revise curriculum and course materials.

  • Science and technology contents (research papers, patents, reports) are the most common reference material for researchers involved in research and development in the fields of science and technology. Based on various search elements (title, abstract, keyword, year of publication, name of journal, name of author, publisher, etc.), many services are available for users to search science and technology contents and bibliographic information owned by libraries. Authority data on organization name can be useful as an element for author identification and as an element to search for results produced by specific organizations. However, organization name is not taken into account by current search services for domestic academic information and bibliographic records. This study analyzes organization name data contained in the metadata of science and technology contents, which are the basis of the establishment of authority data, and proposes a method and system based on string containment and exact string matching.

  • This study analyzed how the accuracy of co-registration varies depending on the convergence angles between two KOMPSAT-3·3A images. Most very-high-resolution satellite images provide initial coordinate information through metadata. Since the search area for performing image co-registration can be reduced by using the initial coordinate information, in this study, the mutual information method showing high matching reliability in the small search area is used. Initial coarse co-registration was performed by using multi-spectral images with relatively low resolution, and precise fine co-registration was conducted centering on the region of interest of the panchromatic image for more accurate co-registration performance. The experiment was conducted by 120 combination of 16 KOMPSAT-3·3A 1G images taken in Daejeon area. Experimental results show that a correlation coefficient between the convergence angles and fine co-registration errors was 0.59. In particular, we have shown the larger the convergence angle, the lower the accuracy of co-registration performance.

  • Under circumstances of rapid disappearing of traditional ethnobotanical knowledge, traditional ethnobotanical knowledge surveys are the major step in documenting useful species with a conservation priority. In the ethnobotanical research, the relevance to the survey intensity, ethnobotanical information and plant species richness is the most important research theme. We made up TEK database in south Korea using metadata which had been published by the Korea National Arboretum. We calculated species richness using species richness estimator like ACE, Chao1, Chao2, ICE, Jack 1, Jack 2, and Bootstrap. Species accumulation curves showed each province sampling efforts appeared to be wide range of variance so that Gangwon province need more sampling efforts, and Chungnam province approached a horizontal asymptote earlier. We found heterogeneous patterns in the rarefaction curves of TEK species between gender for each categories of use (medicinal, food and handicrafts). Comparing with regional floral diversities, it was predicted that more diverse species would be found in some provinces by carrying out additional survey.

  • The importance of data curation is increasingly recognized as the need of data reuse drastically grows. Due to recent data explosion, scientists invest almost 90% of their efforts in the retrieval and collection of data needed to their study. In this paper, we deal with the development and application of a collaborative environment for community-driven data curation which is essential to enhance scientific data reusability and citability. The collaborative scientific data curation environment focuses on the cross-linking between data (or data collections) and their associated literatures to capture and organize inter-relations among research results in a specific domain. Also, plenty of contextual information is provided as metadata in order to support users in understanding data. The cross-linking has been realized by using DOI system to guarantee global accessibility to data and their relationships to literatures. The curation environment has been adopted to build a community-driven curated DB by a globally well-known intrinsically-disorderd protein research group. The curated DB will drastically reduce researchers' efforts to retrieve and collect the data required for scientific discovery.
