  • An adaptive mesh generation scheme is developed for effective non-linear analysis of the shell structures under large deformation. In particular, based on a posteriori error estimation, remeshing method on each load step is of primary interest here. An advancing front method, called paving method, is adopted for remeshing. It can be known that the adaptive mesh generation using contours of spacing values obtained from stress errors has an advantage in the adaptive analysis of the shell structures.

  • The FEM is a computer-aided mathematical technique for obtaining approximate solution to the differential equations. The pointwise convergence defines the relationship between the mesh size and the tolerance. This will play an important role in improving quality of finite element approximate solution. In the paper. We evaluate the convergence on a certain unknown point with a 1-irregular mesh refinement and spectral order enrichment. This means that the degree of freedom is minimized within a tolerance.

  • A regularization method based on the Duvaut-Lions viscoplastic scheme for plastic-damage and continuum damage models, which provides mesh-independent and well-posed solutions in nonlinear earthquake analysis of concrete dams, is presented. A plastic-damage model regularized using the proposed rate-dependent viscosity method and its original rate-independent version are used for the earthquake damage analysis of a concrete dam to analyze the effect of the regualarization and mesh. The computational analysis shows that the regularized plastic-damage model gives well-posed solutions regardless mesh size and arrangement, while the rate-independent counterpart produces mesh-dependent ill-posed results.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the octopus pot according to mesh sizes. Entering behavior of Octopus minor and bait (Macrophthalmus japonicus) escape rate on the mesh sizes of the pots were investigated for six times in indoor tank. The sea trials for evaluating the performance of Octopus minor pot to different mesh sizes (22, 20 and 18 mm) were conducted for six times from 2017 to 2018 in the coastal sea of Deukyang Bay, the Republic of Korea. Behavior patterns of contact pot to leaved pot were more frequent than contact pot to bait search. When the octopus contacted to the pot, there was no clear search behavior to distinguish the mesh sizes. Total catch of 46% was accounted for 18 mm pots, followed by 34% at 20 mm and 20% at 22 mm (P < 0.05). Catch per unit effort was calculated as 30 g/pot at 22 mm, 44 g/pot at 20 mm and 59 g/pot at 18 mm. As a result of evaluating 50% selection of mantle length and weight on the mesh sizes, mantle length (mm) and weight (g) were 84.6 and 147.8 in 22 mm, followed by 20 and 18 mm.

  • Corsoy 79 soybeans were ground into 8-(coarse) and 24-mesh (fine) full-fat soy flours. From the particle size analysis, the 8-mesh full-fat soy flours were found to have larger values for geometric mean diameter and geometric standard deviation. However, the distribution moduli of coarse and fine soy flours were similar and indicated soybeans were nearly 'brittle'. Development of hydrolytic and oxidative rancidities of coarsely and finely ground full-fat soy flours were followed from grinding to 24 hrs later. No increases in peroxide value and conjugated dienes in the oil and hexanal content in the headspace of the flour were observed when the moisture was 10.7% or less. At 14.9% moisture and above, lipid oxidation increased with increased moisture content and storage time. Free fatty acid contents increased slightly at all moisture contents. However, hydrolysis did not exceed 0.06% over the moisture range of 4 to 18%, which is of little practical significance. Fine grinding increased oxidative and hydrolytic rancidities, especially at 14.9% moisture and above. these findings indicate that raw soybeans can be ground to full-fat soy flours and stored up to 24 hrs without undergoing significant lipid and flavor deterioration if the moisture content is 11% or less.

  • A series of 29 sampling with a 330 ${\mu}$m and a 64 ${\mu}$m mesh size of nets was conducted at a fixed station in Ilkwang Bay, southeast cost of Korea, from Oct, 2, 1991 to Oct. 10, 1992, to investigate the effects of mesh size of nets on biomass estimation of copepod Acartia steueri. The catch of copepodite and nauplius stages of A. steueli taken by two nets with different mesh size was different, showing that all developmental stages of A. steueri were retained on the 64 ${\mu}$m mesh net, but only $\geq$stage 4 copepodite were caught by the 330 ${\mu}$m mesh net. Abundance and biomass in each developmental stage estimated with the 64 ${\mu}$m mesh net were significantly higher than those of the 330 ${\mu}$m mesh net, except for adult female and stage 5 copepodite in female. The body length as well as the body width is likely to affect the catch of the nets. The mean biomass of A. steueli estimated with the traditional 330 ${\mu}$m net was 2.8 times lower than the value obtained with the 64 ${\mu}$m mesh net. However, the seasonal patterns of the biomass were comparable. These results suggest that accurate sampling strategr of the entire copepods assemblage including nauplii and copepodites are essential when estimating the abundance and biomass of copepods for the better understanding of the role of copepods in marine ecosystem.

  • In the dielectric resonator method, which has been widely used for measuring the microwave surface resistance of superconductors, accuracies in the geometrical factors (G-factors) affect the uncertainty in the measured surface resistance. We compare the G-factors of short-ended sapphire resonator as obtained by using field analysis with those by using computer simulations: The former is obtained by using the analytic expressions for the electric and the magnetic field components inside the resonator, and the latter by using computer software. The G-factors as obtained by using the latter appear to be closer to those obtained by using the former as the resonator space is divided into larger number of sub-space, i.e., a tighter mesh, with a difference of ~8 % observed for a mesh of 14400 sub-spaces reduced to ~2 % for 114996 sub-spaces. Variations in the relative uncertainty in the surface resistance of typical $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ superconductor films with those in the G-factors are studied, which provides an upper limit of the relative uncertainty in the G-factors required for realizing the target uncertainty in the surface resistance. These results could be useful in estimating the optimum number of meshes for obtaining the G-factors through computer simulations.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effects on saccharification and alcohol fermentation, according to the size of the ground rice (12, 20, 35 mesh) and ultra sonication process (15, 30, 60, 120 min). After saccharification of the ground rice samples for 3 h at $60^{\circ}C$, sugar content was observed to be high in the order of cooked ground rice (CGR) > ultrasonicated ground rice (UGR) > ground rice (GR), in all sizes of ground rice. Further, higher sugar content was obtained by increasing the time of ultrasonication process. Almost 90% saccharification of CGR ($11.5^{\circ}Bx$) could be reached up to $10.2^{\circ}Bx$ by ultrasonicating 35 mesh ground rice for 120 min. After alcohol fermentation on the 35 mesh saccharified-UGR for 4 days at $25^{\circ}C$, 16.7% alcohol concentration could be obtained, as high as of CGR (17.2%). After 4 days of alcohol fermentation, UGR showed a lower pH and a higher acidity (pH 4.06-4.17, 0.99-1.1%) than CGR (pH 4.27, 0.75%).

  • The author studied to analyse the relationship between the body dimension of sea eel, Astroconger myriaster and the mesh size of fishing gears. The samples were caught by traps and pots during September, 1987 in the Southern Sea of Korea. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The relationship between total length L, body weight W and diameter D may be expressed as: W=3.58$\times$10 super(-4) L super(3.38) (r=0.99). D=0.07 L-0.59 (r=0.99). W=10.38 D super(2.76) (r=1.00). W=1/2$\times$D super(2).L. 2. The mesh size of traps and the hole diameter of post must be more than 29.2 mm and 18.6 mm, respectively.
