Objectives : Dong-si acupuncture therapy is being widely used because of good clinical result. The purpose of this study was to compare the location and efficacy of Dong-si acupoints and 14 meridian acupoints. Conclusions : 1. Dong-si acupoints on the lower extremity total 83. Among them, 16 acupoints are the same as 14 meridian acupoints. 2. Between the same location points, the efficacy of each Dong-si acupoints is similar to that of each of the 14 meridian acupoints in cases of musculoskeletal pain diseases, paralytic diseases, urogenital diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases. 3. Dr. Dong studied deeply into the 14 meridian acupoints and created Dong-si acupuncture therapy. He said that the distribution of acupuncture points was closely related to the 14 meridians. 4. I think that we are able to apply Dong-si acupuncture therapy to clinical use widely by comprehending the character of the 14 meridian acupoints and each meridians.

The purpose of this study is to arrange the acupuncture therapy on the asthma from the oriental medical literature. The results obtained as follows. 1. The cause of the asthma is the intrinsic factors and the over-sensitive reactions. The decreased function of the lung and the kidney are chronically affected to the asthma. 2. The typical sign of the asthma is tachypnea and wheezes to be heard throughout the lung field, particularly during expiration. 3. Bladder meridian, Conception vessel, and Lung meridian used frequently for the acupuncture therapy, and Bladder meridian, Conception vessel, Stomach meridian, and Lung meridian used frequently for the moxibusrion on the asthma. The acupuncture points of Lung meridian used most frequently on the asthma, but the acupuncture points of Heart meridian have not used. 4. Acupuncture point at B13, CV22, LI4, CV12, CV17, 536, B12 used used frequently for the acupuncture therapy, and the acupuncture point at B13, CV22, B12, CV17, B43 used frequently for the moxibustion on the asthma Particularly B13 and CV22 used most frequently for the acupuncture therapy on the asthma.

To investigate the effects of negative therapy at back meridian points on blood gas components and immune functions in male college students, this study was conducted on treatment types(abdomen group and back group) at three sampling times (before, post-2 wks and post-4 wks) by using $2{\times}3$ factoral design. Blood gas $components(pH,\;PCO_2,\;PO_2,\;HCO_3^-,\;O_2SAT,\;BE)$, red blood cell, hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cell and subsets(neutrophil, basophil, eosinophil. lymphocyte, monocyte), total T cells, helper T cells, suppressor T cells, Th/Ts ratio, total B cells, serum immunoglobulin levels (IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, IgE), Cytokines(Interlukin$-1{\beta}$, -2, -4, 2 receptor, -6 and ${\gamma}$-interferon), NK cells were measured. Collected with data were analyzed statistically by repealed measured ANOVA. The pattern of change between two groups for hematocrit, hemoglobin, suppressor T cells, interleukin-6, ${\gamma}-interferon$, NK cells at post-2 weeks and BE, lymphocyte, basophil at post-4 weeks was significantly different(p<0.05) And also the pattern of change over time for ${HCO_3}^-$(2 wks vs 4 wks), WBC, neutrophil, lymphocyte(0 wks vs 2 wks and 2 wks vs 4 wks) was significantly different(p<0.05). In summary, these data suggest that negative therapy at back meridian points had an effect on blood gas components and immune functions in male college students because practicing negative therapy at back meridian points was not associated with changes of all blood gas components and immune factors but associated with changes of BE, hematocrit, hemoglobin, WBC. neutrophil, lymphocyte, interleukin-6. ${\gamma}-interferon$, NK cells.

The literatural study on the effect of acupuncture for tinnitus was studied from the viewpoint of acupuncture effect. The conclusions are as follows. 1. The ear manages kidney, it relates with the heart meridian of hand soeum, kidney meridian of foot soeum, lung meridian of hand taeeum, spleen meridian of foot taeeum, stomach meridian of foot yangmyeong, gallbladder meridian of foot soyang, triple energizer meridian of hand soyang, small intestine meridian of hand taeyang. 2. According to classification of meridian in acupuncture treatment of tinnitus triple energizer meridian of hand soyang 18.0%, gallbladder meridian of foot soyang 16.6%, bladder meridian of foot taeyang 16.6%, small intestine meridian of hand taeyang 9.7%, large intestine meridian of hand yangmyeong 8.3%, stomach meridian of foot yangmyeong 5.5%, spleen meridian of foot taeeum 4.1%, pericardium meridian of hand gworeum 4.1%, lung meridian of hand taeeum 2.8%, heart meridian of hand soeum 2.8%, kidney meridian of foot soeum 2.8%, liver meridian of foot gworeum 2.8%, conception channel 2.8%, governor channel 2.8% have been used much in turn. 3. In the general points GB2 24times, TE3 22times, TE17 22times, SI19 20times, TE21 20times, KI 3 19times, BL23 17times, LI4 15times have been used much in turn.

Objectives : The aim of the study is to draw a consensus in acupuncture point locations (APLs) which are frequently used in experimental animal studies. Well-documented APL is needed not only for human but also for rodents because stimulation of precise point is very important factor in acupuncture. Methods : We organized a committee with experts to reach a consensus on the APLs in rat. The subject points were limited to 22 points used in the papers published at international peer-review journals. To describe point locations, we adopted the syntax of sentence used in the WHO standard acupuncture point locations. Results : Locations of 22 acupuncture points such as ST36, LI4, PC6, and SP6 were described in English with photographic illustrations. Interestingly, we found that ST36 had been inserted into 2 different locations in rodent. Under consideration of practical use, the location of ST36 point was described in 2 different ways. Conclusion : We hope that newly developed APLs would be a good indicator of acupuncture experiments in rats and mice.

Objectives : Mitochondria are typically known as intracellular double membrane-bound structures that supply energy for intracellular metabolism including Krebs cycle and beta-oxidation. Also, acupuncture has been known to stimulate the flow of energy. To explore the effect of acupuncture on the mitochondrial respiratory chain activities in rat's heart and kidneys, the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I to IV were observed. Methods : The rats were divided into 11 groups; Normal (no acupuncture treatment and under anesthesia for 10 min), heart meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at HT9, HT8, HT7, HT4 and HT3 under anesthesia for 10 min), and kidney meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at KI1, KI2, KI3, KI7 and KI10 under anesthesia for 10 min). All rats were sacrificed and the heart and kidneys were examined for the changes of respiratory chain activities. Results : Acupuncture at HT7 increased the activity of succinate dehydrogenase; acupuncture at KI2 increased the activity of ubiquinol cytochrome C oxidoreductase; and acupuncture at HT9, HT8, HT3 and KI1 increased activities of cytochrome C oxidase. Conclusions : Acupuncture assists mitochondrial repiratory chain activity via the Cytochrome C oxidase signaling pathway in heart and kidney of rats.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to analyze the symptoms of a disease and to elucidate the meaning and rationale of point selection in YuLongFu. Methods : We translated YuLongFu into Korean and analyzed symptoms based upon a comparison of YuLongFu with YuLongGe. The meaning and rationale of point selection in YuLongFu was then inferred from the analysis above. Results and Conclusions : Total 46 points (6 points were repeated) were used in YuLongFu. These points included the collateral Meridian, the four seas, five shu points, lower confluent points, yuan points and eight influential points. Moxibustion and pricking blood therapy were used twice. Generally, threre are a lot of diseases caused by stagnation of Qi and blood in YuLongFu. Point selection, therefore, was usually aimed at promoting flow of Qi and blood.

Objectives and Methods : The present study was to investigate the change of acupuncture point location of gallbladder meridian in head by way of reviewing classical literatures. Result and Conclusions : 1. The locations of acupuncture points closed-by anatomical marks such as GB1, GB2, GB3, GB11, GB12, GB19, GB20 are clear and accurate. 2. The expression of acupuncture points' locations of GB4, GB5, GB6, GB8 and GB10 are obscure in classical literature, but their locations became clear and objective in recent literatures. 3. The locations of GB9 and GB13 are open to dispute but WHO standard acupuncture point seems to be resonable. 4. In classical literature, the length from the midpoint of the anterior hairline to the midpoint of the posterior hairline is 12 B-cun, and the length from the midpoint of the anterior hairline to the GB19 is 5 cun, 5.5 cun or 6.5 cun. We presume that the length from GB15 to GB19 might have been measured by F-cun.

Qi intention. Temperature variations on the outer skin above measured at acupuncture points, PC8, LI4, and ST7. Results : The change of temperature in PC8 of the Qigong trainees were significantly higher than that of non-trainees ($0.97{\pm}0.20$ vs. $0.45{\pm}0.10$ respectively, p< 0.05 ). The change of temperature of the other acupoints areas was not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions : Qi intention resulted in temperature change at the outer skin on the specific acupoints.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to review the methods of combining acupoints of HANGYEOK(Cooling Mode) and YEOLGYEOK(Heating Mode) in Saam Acupuncture Method. Methods: We searched and investigated the journals and literatures by OASIS(Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine) and relevant searching engines with the key word "Saam, Hangyeok, Yeolgyeok". Unfortunately there was no relevant articles on this theme except six literatures. Six literatures with the key words relevant to Saam and acupuncture were selected and analyzed according to each composition of acupuncture prescription especially focusing on HANGYEOK and YEOLGYEOK. Results: Analyzing HANGYEOK and YEOLGYEOK of 12 meridians, two different methods emerged. In HANGYEOK to treat Heat Pattern, one method is to tonify Water points and directly sedate Fire points. The other is also to tonify Water point, but sedate Earth points instead of Fire points. It is assumed that Earth sedation method is to eradicate the underlying Fire. In only Heart meridian and Pericardium meridian there is one method to treat Heat Pattern: Water tonification and Fire Sedation. In YEOLGYEOK to treat Cold Pattern, there is one method to tonify Fire points and sedate Water points. In Pericardium meridian and Triple Energizer meridian there are some different combination of acupoints depending on literatures. Conclusions: Considering HANGYEOK and YEOLGYEOK in Saam Acupuncture Method, two methods are mainly discussed in HANGYEOK; Water Tonification Fire Sedation and Water Tonification Earth Sedation. To remove the underlying Fire, it is regarded that Water Tonification Earth Sedation is appropriate and close to Saam's thought.
