The purpose of this study was to investigate why advance organizers (AO) are effective in promoting comprehension and mental model formation in terms of cognitive load. Two experimental groups: a concept-map AO group and a key-word AO group and one control group were used. This study considered cognitive load in view of Baddeley's working memory model: central executive (CE), phonological loop (PL), and visuo-spatial sketch pad (VSSP). The present experiment directly examined cognitive load using dual task methodology. The results were as follows: central executive (CE) suppression task achievement for the concept map AO group was higher than the key word AO group and control group. Comprehension and mental model construction for the concept map AO group were higher than the other groups. These results indicated that the superiority of concept map AO owing to CE load decrement occurred with comprehension and mental model construction in learning. Thus, the available resources produced by CE load reduction may have been invested for comprehension and mental model construction of learning contents.
Recently, volume of data has been growing dramatically along with the growth of social media and digital devices. However, the existing disk-based distributed file systems have limits to their performance of data processing or data access, due to I/O processing costs and bottlenecks. To solve this problem, the caching technique is being used to manage data in the memory. In this paper, we propose a cache management scheme to handle load balancing in a distributed memory environment. The proposed scheme distributes the data according to the memory size, n distributed environments with different memory sizes. If overloaded nodes occur, it redistributes the the access time of the caching data. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with an existing distributed cache management scheme through performance evaluation.

The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of magnetic field and gravitational field on fiber-reinforced thermoelastic medium with memory-dependent derivative. Three-phase-lag model of thermoelasticity (3PHL) is used to study the plane waves in a fiber-reinforced magneto-thermoelastic material with memory-dependent derivative. A gravitating magneto-thermoelastic two-dimensional substrate is influenced by both thermal shock and mechanical loads at the free surface. Analytical expressions of the considered variables are obtained by using Laplace-Fourier transforms technique with the eigenvalue approach technique. A numerical example is considered to illustrate graphically the effects of the magnetic field, gravitational field and two types of mechanical loads(continuous load and impact load).
As social beings, we need to understand others' actions as quickly and accurately as possible. Action understanding can occur at many levels. We sometimes grasp others' intentions unintentionally. Other times, however, we have to expend effort to draw inferences about their goals. In the context of joint action, the joint Simon effect demonstrates that actors are influenced by the unintended representation of a co-actor's actions. This effect has been described as quasi-automatic, but it is unclear if the effect is automatic enough to be immune to cognitive load. Thus, we asked participants to complete a joint Simon task with or without a concurrent working memory task. One group of participants maintained a single digit in their mind during working memory load blocks (low-load group), while the other group maintained five digits (high-load group). As a result, the low-load group showed a joint Simon effect both during no-load and low-load blocks. In contrast, the high-load group had no joint Simon effect during either no-load or high-load blocks. These results suggest that the joint Simon effect is not an automatic phenomenon given that it requires cognitive resources. Actors in a joint task may represent a co-actor's actions in their task set, but only when cognitive resources are available.
This paper aims to develope a new algorithm to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional E.L.D system based on the B-Constants and Penalty-Factors scheme. The main features of this paper are that the Variabiable Decoupled Method usually employed in the Load-Flow studies is introduced to the E.L.D. algorithm developed by Sasson, using the Powell's Nonlinear Programming Scheme. Besides this, other minor refinements are made to reduce memory spaces and computing time. Case studies show that the method suggested here has the remarkable advantages of computing efficiency and memory requirements over Sasson's.

Recently, fast storage media such as phage-change memory (PCM) emerge, and memory management policies for slow disk storage need to be revisited. In this paper, we propose a new page replacement policy that makes use of PCM as a swap device of virtual memory systems. The proposed policy aims at reducing write traffic to the swap device as well as reducing the number of page faults pursued by traditional page replacement policies. This is because a write operation in PCM is slow and PCM has limited write endurances. Specifically, the proposed policy focuses on the reduction of page faults when the memory load of the system is high, but it aims at reducing write traffic to storage when free memory space is sufficient. Simulation experiments with various memory reference traces show that the proposed policy reduces write traffic to PCM without performance degradations.

Beam-column joints (BCJs) are recognized among the most crucial zones in reinforced concrete structures, as they are the critical elements subjected to a complex state of forces during a severe earthquake. Under such conditions, BCJs exhibit behaviors with impacts that extend to the whole structure and significantly influence its ductility and capability of dissipating energy. The focus of this paper is to investigate the effect of undamaged transverse beam (secondary beams) on the ductility of concrete BCJs reinforced with conventional steel and shape memory alloys bars using pushover analysis at tip of beam under different axial load levels at the column using a nonlinear finite element model in ABAQUS environment. A numerical model of a BCJ was constructed and the analysis outcomes were verified by comparing them to those obtained from previous experiments found in the literature. The comparison evidenced the capability of the calibrated model to predict the load capacity response of the joint. Results proved the ability of undamaged secondary beams to provide a noticeable improvement to the ductility of reinforced concrete joints, with a very negligible loss in load capacity. However, the effect of secondary beams can become less significant if the beams are damaged due to seismic effects. In addition, the axial load was found to significantly enhance the performance of BCJs, where the increase in axial load magnified the capacity of the joint. However, higher values of axial load resulted in greater initial stiffness of the BCJ.
To elucidate the effect of working memory (WM) load on negative facial emotion processing, we examined ERP components (P1 and N170) elicited by fearful and neutral expressions each of which was presented during 0-back (low-WM load) or 2-back (high-WM load) tasks. During N-back tasks, visual objects were presented one by one as targets and each of facial expressions was presented as a passively observed stimulus during intervals between targets. Behavioral results showed more accurate and fast responses at low-WM load condition compared to high-WM load condition. Analysis of mean amplitudes of P1 on the occipital region showed significant WM load effect (high-WM load > low-WM load) but showed nonsignificant facial emotion effect. Analysis of mean amplitudes of N170 on the posterior occipito-temporal region showed significant overall facial emotion effect (fearful > neutral), but, in detail, significant facial emotion effect was observed only at low-WM load condition on the left hemisphere, but was observed at high-WM load condition as well as low-WM load condition on the right hemisphere. To summarize, facial emotion effect observed by N170 amplitudes was modulated by WM load only on the left hemisphere. These results show that early emotional processing of negative facial expression could be eliminated or reduced by high load of WM on the left hemisphere, but could not be eliminated by high load on the right hemisphere, and suggest right hemispheric lateralization of negative facial emotion processing.
In this paper, we propose a new nonvolatile unit memory cell and proposal peripheral circuit using the polymer material. Memory that relies on bistable behavior- having tow states associated with different resistances at the same applied voltage - has attracted much interest because of its nonvolatile properties. Such memory may also have other merits, including simplicity of structure and manufacturing, and the small size of memory cells. We have plotted the load line graphs for the use of a polymer memory character, hence we have designed in the band-gap reference shape of a write/erase drive, and then designed in the 2-stage differential amplifier shape of a sense amplifier in the consideration of a low current characteristic of a polymer memory cell. The simulation result shows that is has high gain about 80dB by sensing the very small current.

The Series RC load is connected with the word line in an attempt to select with high speed the information from the coincident current magnetie memory core. By taking the small time constant of the RC load, the cycle time of the output pulse is shortened by about 2 microseconds to 3 micro seconds. For this purpose, the analytical study are accomplished and the optimum circuit parameters are determined. Furthermore, the thermal problems occuring from the high speed switching of the magnetic memory core have been clarified.
