KOGAS had developed the Ring-knot membrane for LNG storage tank. But we found that some modifications were needed in using the Ring-knot membrane for the commercial LNG storage tanks. So, both analytical and experimental studies have been performed to investigate the strength of the new membrane and the reaction force at the anchor point. Using nonlinear FEM code and experiments, the stress analysis of the new corrugated membrane shapes subject to the cryogenic liquid pressure and thermal loading are performed to ensure the stability and fatigue strength of the new membrane. This paper reports on the results of investigations into this new type of membrane.
Zygosaccharomyces rouxii is an important yeast that is required in the food fermentation process due to its high salt tolerance. In this study, the responses and resistance strategies of Z. rouxii against salt stress were investigated by performing physiological analysis at membrane level. The results showed that under salt stress, cell integrity was destroyed, and the cell wall was ruptured, which was accompanied by intracellular substance spillover. With an increase of salt concentrations, intracellular Na+ content increased slightly, whereas intracellular K+ content decreased significantly, which caused the increase of the intracellular Na+/K+ ratio. In addition, in response to salt stress, the activity of Na+/K+-ATPase increased from 0.54 to 2.14 μmol/mg protein, and the ergosterol content increased to 2.42-fold to maintain membrane stability. Analysis of cell membrane fluidity and fatty acid composition showed that cell membrane fluidity decreased and unsaturated fatty acid proportions increased, leading to a 101.21% rise in the unsaturated/saturated fatty acid ratio. The results presented in this study offer guidance in understanding the salt tolerance mechanism of Z. rouxii, and in developing new strategies to increase the industrial utilization of this species under salt stress.

This paper is concerned with the development of a measurement system using field measuring device which will give the membrane stress of the membrane structures. Up to this point, several techniques on measurement of membrane stresses has been proposed and some have been used in the fields, but accuracy of the measured stresses to be far from reliable one. Such situation has not been changed until recent days, we do not have the measurement device on which we can depend. On top of that, due to the different properties in cross directions for material of the membrane, the stress in the warp direction is different from that in the fill one.
An acceleration stress test (AST) was performed to evaluate the durability of a polymer membrane in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) for 500 hours. Previous studies have shown that hydrogen crossover measured by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) increases when the polymer membrane deteriorates in the AST process. On the other hand, hydrogen crossover of the membrane often decreases in the early stages of the AST test. To investigate the cause of this phenomenon, we analyzed the MEA operated for 50 hours using the AST method (OCV, RH 30% and $90^{\circ}C$). Cyclic voltammetry and transmission electron showed that the electrochemical surface area (ECSA) decreased due to the growth of electrode catalyst particles and that the hydrogen crossover current density measured by LSV could be reduced. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis showed that -S-O-S- crosslinking occurred in the polymer after the 50 hour AST. Gas chromatography showed that the hydrogen permeability was decreased by -S-O-S- crosslinking. The reduction of the hydrogen crossover current density measured by LSV in the early stages of AST could be caused by both reduction of the electrochemical surface area of the electrode catalyst and -S-O-S- crosslinking.

Uniaxial tensile tests of ETFE membrane are performed in this paper. Three kinds ETFE membrane with different thickness are used in the tests. The tensile strength, the tensile strain at break and the stress-strain curve are obtained from the tests. Futhermore, The cycle loading test of ETFE membrane is carried out through using different values of cycle stress. The residual strain, the relaxation of stress and the change of the elastic modulus of foil are investigated. In the creep test, three kinds of temperature (25, 40 and 60 $^{\circ}C$)and three kinds of stress(3,6and9 MPa) are set respectively and the creep time lasts 24 hours.
Polysulfone composites including graphene were prepared, and their thermal characteristics in membrane states were analyzed by using a custome-made residual stress analyzer and a thermal diffusivity analyzer based on laser flash method. The residual stress analysis was carried out on the polysulfone composite films deposited on Si (100) substrates for 1 cycle of heating and cooling runs. The flat membrane of graphene-embedded polysulfone composites were prepared by the phase transfer method in distilled water and the thermal conductivity was separately measured in the out-of-plane and the in-plane directions. The residual stress of the graphene-embedded polysulfone film was gradually decreased with increasing graphene loading and the out-of-plane thermal conductivity was distinguished from the in-plane thermal conductivity in the flat membranes. These thermal characteristics are caused by the structural uniqueness of graphene and the micro-void structures formed during membrane fabrication.
In this study, the stress and deformation characteristics of corner protection in which is fabricated in an insulation area have been analyzed using a finite element method. The proposed corner protection may increase the strength and leakage safeties of conventional LNG storage system. The stress and deformation of LNG storage tank system are computed for an insulation panel box, membrane inner tank, and prestressed concrete outer tank. The FEM computed results indicate that the stress and displacement of new membrane LNG tank system with a corner protection between an inner tank and an outer tank are reduced in comparison to those of a conventional membrane LNG tank. This is explained that the strength safety of LNG membrane tank system may be increased due to a strength stiffness of a corner protection.
The novelty of this study resides in the fabrication of stoichiometric and stress-reduced $Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ triple-layer membrane sieves. The membrane sieves were designed to be very flat and thin, mechanically stress-reduced, and stable in their electrical and chemical properties. All insulating materials are deposited stoichiometrically by a low-pressure chemical vapor deposition system. The membranes with a thickness of 0.4 ${\mu}m$ have pores with a diameter of about 1 ${\mu}m$. The device is fabricated on a 6" silicon wafer with the semiconductor processes. We utilized the membrane sieves for plasma separations from human whole blood. To enhance the separation ability of blood plasma, an agarose gel matrix was attached to the membrane sieves. We could separate about 1 ${\mu}L$ of blood plasma from 5 ${\mu}L$ of human whole blood. Our device can be used in the cell-based biosensors or analysis systems in analytical chemistry.

In LNG Tank, it is very important to measure the strain in Membrane by theoretical and experimental stress analysis. In this paper, perform the test about strain gage, thermal sensor and lead wire to make clear the properies. The test results conclude that stress measurement by strain gage must consider the effect of many factors to measure strain acculately. The corrections should be made on apparent strain, lead wire length and Membrane shape. It is also important to measure the temperatures accurately at the strain gage location

The purpose of this study is to propose the method of determining the initial pneumatic membrane structures surface and stresses and displacements. Tension structure such as pneumatic membrane structures is stabilized by their initial prestress and air pressure. The process to find initial structural overall shape of tension structures produced by initial prestress called shape finding. One of the most important factor for the design of membrane structures is to search initial smooth surface, because unlike steel or concrete building elements which resist loads in bending, all tension structure forces are carried within the surface by membrane stress. The result for initial surface of pneumatic membrane element and maximum displacement in large deformation in analysis is compared with well-known nonlinear numerical method such as Newton-raphson method and dynamic relaxation method
