고농도의 Silica Nanoparticle을 함유한 Silica/polymer 나노복합체 : 실리카 표면 특성에 따른 수소이온 전도성 및 수팽윤도 변화 (Silica/polymer Nanocomposite Containing High Silica Nanoparticle Content : Change in Proton Conduction and Water Swelling with Surface Property of Silica Nanoparticles)

  • Solvent-casting 공정을 통해서 제조되는 전형적인 Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)과는 달리, 일종의 Bulk-Molding Compounds (BMC) Process와 유사한 공정을 사용하여서 실리카 나노 입자들이 나노 크기로 분산된 PEM을 제조하였다. 즉, 반응성 분산제인 Urethane Acrylate Nonionomer (UAN)와 Styrene, Styrene Sulfonic Acid (NaSS), 실리카 나노입자를 Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) 단일 용매에 혼합시키고 라디칼 개시제 존재 하에서 Mold내에서 공중합을 수행하면, 표면 특성이 각기 다른 실리카 나노 입자들이 나노 크기로 분산된 Poly(urethane acrylate-styrene-styrene sulfonic acid) random copolymer Membrane 즉 일종의 실리카/고분자 Nanocomposite Membrane이 제조될 수 있었다. 실리카 나노 입자들의 Membrane에서의 분산성은 TEM을 이용하여서 확인할 수 있었다. 제조된 Membrane은 분산된 실리카 나노입자들의 표면 특성에 따라서 각기 다른 수팽윤도 및 수소이온전도도 변화 거동을 나타내었다. Membrane에 친수성 실리카 나노 입자들이 분산된 경우에는, Membrane의 수팽윤도가 다소 증가되었지만 거의 일정한 수소 이온 전도도를 나타내었다. 그러나 Membrane의 메탄올 투과도는 상대적으로 크게 감소되었다. 반면에 Membrane에 분산된 소수성 실리카 나노 입자들이 분산된 경우에는, 수팽윤도는 크게 감소되었지만 수소 이온전도도는 거의 변화하지 않았다. 즉 소수성 실리카 나노입자들은 소수성 도메인에 분산되어서 친수성 도메인이 팽윤되는 것을 억제시키지만 수소 이온전도성에는 영향을 미치지 않기 때문이다. 따라서 membrane의 수팽윤도와 수소이온전도성을 실리카 나노 입자들의 표면 특성을 이용하여서 자유로이 조절이 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 흥미로운 것은 실리카 나노 입자를 membrane에 분산시키는 것만으로도 수소 이온 전도성을 유지시키면서 수팽윤도를 현저하게 저하시킬 수 있다는 것이다.

  • Most of synthetic polymeric membranes used in ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and microfiltration processes are prepared by phase inversion(or phase separation) technique. In this technique, a homogeneous polymer solution is cast into thin film or hollow fiber shape and then immersed into a nonsolvent coagulant bath. The exchange of solvent and nonsolvent across the interface between casting solution and coagu!ant can make the casting solution phase-separate and form a membrane with a symmetric or asymmetric structure. Because of importance of this technique in membrane field, many investigations have been dedicated to elucidate the mechanism of membrane formation by phase inversion technique.[1-10] These investigation have suggested that the structure formation and permeation properties of phase inversion membrane depend on the variables such as the nature and content of casting solution and coagulant, temperature of casting solution and coagulant, and the diffusional exchange rate of solvent and nonsolvent etc. which can be related to the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the casting system. The variables such as the nature and content of casting solution can also be the important factor affecting the structure formation and permeation property of the phase inversion membrane.

Morphological study of synthesized PVDF membrane using different non-solvents for coagulation

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) flat sheet hydrophobic membranes were prepared using 16 wt% PVDF in Dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) by phase inversion technique for desalination application using Membrane Distillation (MD). In this work, the effect of coagulation mediums such as ethanol and water as well their synergistic behavior on the fabricated PVDF membrane morphology was studied using SEM. Moreover, other characteristics required for the membrane distillation applications namely porosity, hydrophobicity and tensile strength were measured using the gravimetric method, sessile drop method and universal testing machine respectively. It was observed that the membrane morphology paradigm shifted from the finger-like structure to the sponge-like structure on increasing the ethanol concentration in coagulant. The porosity of the fabricated membrane was under the required MD range and found to be 57.3% at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent under a pure ethanol coagulant bath. Moreover, the top surface contact angle ranges from 85° to 115° on increasing the bath concentration from CBC 0 to CBC 100 at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent.

  • The improvement of fouling resistance of porous polymeric membrane is one of the most important targets in membrane preparation for water purification in many process like wastewater treatment. Membranes can be modified by various techniques, including the treatment of polymer material, blending of hydrophilic polymer into polymer solution, and post treatment of fabricated membrane. This research proposed the modifications of morphology and surface property of hydrophobic membrane by blending polyethersulfone (PES) with three polymeric additives, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), Pluronic F127 (Plu), and Tetronic 1307 (Tet). PES hollow fiber membranes were fabricated via dry-wet spinning process by using a spinneret with inner and outer diameter of 0.7 and 1.0 mm, respectively. The morphology changes of PES blend membrane by those additives, as well as the change of performance in ultrafiltration module were comparatively observed. The surface structure of membranes was characterized by atomic force microscopy and Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy. The cross section morphology of PES blend hollow fiber membranes was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that all polymeric additives blended in this system affected to improve the performances of PES membrane. The ultra-filtration experiment confirmed that PES-PVP membrane showed the best performance among the three membranes on the basis of filtration stability.

  • 본 총설은 소수성 불소수지계 분리막의 표면 개질에 대한 개론으로 다양한 표면 개질 방법 및 그 연구 결과를 중점적으로 서술하였다. PTFE로 대표되는 불소수지계 고분자 분리막은 막 증류, 유수 분리, 기체 분리를 포함한 다양한 막 분리 공정에서 사용되어왔다. PTFE 막은 내화학성, 내열성, 높은 기계적 강도와 같은 뛰어난 물성에도 불구하고 소수성 표면 특성으로 인해 기술 적용의 확장에 제한적이다. 친수성 향상을 위해 습식 화학법, 친수성 고분자 코팅, 플라즈마 처리, 조사, 원자층 증착과 같은 다양한 PTFE 표면 개질 방법을 이용하며 이를 통해 불소수지계 분리막의 응용분야가 확장될 수 있다.

𝛽-사이클로덱스트린을 함침시킨 PVDF 혼합기질 비대칭막의 제조와 내오염성 평가 (Preparation and Anti-fouling Properties of PVDF Mixed Matrix Asymmetric Membranes Impregnated with 𝛽-cyclodextrin)

  • Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) 막은 내구성 및 열적·화학적 안정성 등의 물성은 우수하나 소수성이 커서 수투과도가 낮고 단백질 및 유기물에 의한 막오염이 쉽게 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 PVDF 막의 내오염성을 개선시키고자 바이오 기능성 물질인 𝛽-cyclodextrin (𝛽-CD)을 PVDF 막 구조 내에 분산 함침시킨 PVDF/𝛽-CD 혼합기질 비대칭막을 상변환법을 통해 제조하고, 𝛽-CD 함침량에 따른 순수 투과 유속(PWF) 측정과 BSA 용액을 대상으로 한 막여과 실험을 수행하여 내오염성 특성을 평가하였다. 이 결과 PVDF 고분자 매질 내에 𝛽-CD를 함침시키면 막의 친수성을 증가시켜 접촉각을 감소시키고 이로 인해 내오염성을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 𝛽-CD 함침량이 2 wt%인 도프용액을 사용하여 제조된 PVDF/𝛽-CD 혼합기질 비대칭막의 PWF는 64 L/m2·h, BSA 배제도는 95%를 나타내었으며, 𝛽-CD를 첨가하지 않고 제조된 pristine PVDF 막에 비해 투과 유속 향상성이 최대 80%에 달해 𝛽-CD를 첨가시킴으로서 PVDF 막의 내오염성을 증가시킬 수 있었다.

막 구조물의 측지선 탐색과 재단도 작성에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Search of Geodesic Line and Cuting Pattern Generation of Membrane Structures)

  • Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation, because the material property has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The problem of cutting pattern is highly varied in their size, curvature and material stiffness. So, the approximation inherent in cutting pattern generation methods is quite different. Therefore the ordinary computer software of structural analysis & design is not suitable for membrane structures. In this study, we develop the program for cutting pattern generation using geodesic line, and investigate the result of example's cutting pattern in detail.

  • Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The material property of the membrane has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation. In shape finding, membrane structures are unstable structures initially. These soft structures need to be introduced initial stresses because of its initial unstable state, and happen large deformation phenomenon. Therefore, in this study, to find the structural shape after large deformation caused by initial stress, we need the shape analysis considering geometric nonlinear term. And we investigate the evaluation of shape analysis technique's convergence and efficiency according to the control method

항에이즈 약물의 경피흡수에 미치는 합성고분자 멤브레인의 영향 (The Effect of Synthetic Polymer Membranes on the Skin Permeation of Anti-AIDS Drugs)

  • The effect of synthetic polymer membranes on the permeation rate of dideoxynucleoside-type anti-HIV drugs through hairless rat skin was studied using ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymer (EMA) membranes fabricated by solvent casting method. In vitro skin permeation kinetics study of DDC (2',3'-dideoxythymidine), DDI (2',3'-dideoxyinosine) and AZT (3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine) across the (membrane/skin) composite was conducted for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ using the Valia-Chien skin permeation system. The results showed that skin permeation rate of each drug across the (skin/membrane) composite was mainly dependent on the property of the membrane. Proper selection of the polymeric membrane which resembles hydrophilicity/lipophilicity of the delivering drug was important in controlling the skin permeation rate.
