This paper presents new equations for member forces in concrete floating structures under wave loadings. The currently adopted design equations for wave loadings disregard the effect of mismatch between design wave length and the length of the structure. In most cases, however, additional internal forces occur due to disequilibriating buoyancy caused by the difference between design wave length and the length of the structure. In this study, new design equations considering the influence of the disequlibriating buoyancy is proposed. In addition, finite element solutions are sought to demonstrate the adequacy of the proposed design formulae in estimating the actual internal forces considering the structure as either rigid or flexible. It has been found that member forces are decreased approximately to around 55% for flexible model when compared with the rigid one.

Many RC building structures of multiple uses constructed in Korea have the Irregularities of torsion and soft story at bottom stories simultaneously. Seismic design codes generally require dynamic analysis and to take into account the effect or earthquake excitations in the orthogonal direction using the approximate methods of 100/30 and SRSS for type of building structures. And ail buildings should be designed to be safe in any direction of earthquake input. But, most of designers have difficulty in considering the orthogonal and directional effect of earthquake. The objective of the study stated herein is to verily 1) the effect of the choice of the reference axes on the seismic design member forces by comparing the analytical results on member forces using the principal axes suggested by Wilson and the global axes generally adopted in design office, 2) the validity or the 100/30 and SRSS methods by comparing the member forces obtained through linear elastic time history analysis with those obtained through using response spectrum analysis and 100/30 (or SRSS) methods. Based on the observations on the analytical results, it is concluded as follows; 1) The values of member forces by principal axes can be about $15\%$ smaller than those by the global axes in the example structure. 2) Though the values of member forces given by time history analysis are generally within the peak values predicted by 100/30 and SRSS methods, many member force vectors $(P,\;M_y,\;and\;M_z)$ by lime history analysis were located outside the boundaries predicted by the approximate method such as the 100/30 method.
Pinching is an important property of reinforced concrete member which characterizes its cyclic behavior. In the present study, numerical studies were performed to investigate the characteristics of pinching behavior and the energy dissipation capacity of flexure-dominated reinforced concrete members. By investigating existing experiments and numerical results, it was found that flexural pinching which has no relation with shear action appears in RC members subject to axial compression force. However, members with specific arrangement and amount of re-bars, have the same energy dissipation capacity regardless of the magnitude of the axial force applied even though the shape of the cyclic curve varies due to the effect of the axial force. This indicates that concrete as a brittle material does not significantly contribute to the energy dissipation capacity though its effect on the behavior increases as the axial force increases, and that energy dissipation occurs primarily by re-bars. Therefore, the energy dissipation capacity of flexure-dominated member can be calculated by the analysis on the cross-section subject to pure bending, regardless of the actual compressive force applied. Based on the findings, a practical method and the related design equations for estimating energy dissipation capacity and damping modification factor was developed, and their validity was verified by the comparisons with existing experiments. The proposed method can be conveniently used in design practice because it accurately estimates energy dissipation capacity with general design parameters.
Beam-to-column connections behaviour plays an important role in the analysis and design of steel and precast concrete structures. The paper presents a computer-based method for geometrically nonlinear frames with semi-rigid beam-to-column connections. The analytical procedure employs modified stability functions to model the effect of axial force on the stiffness of members. The member modified stiffness matrix, and the modified fixed end forces for various loads were found. The linear and nonlinear analyses were applied for two planar steel structures. The method is readily implemented on a computer using matrix structural analysis techniques and is applicable for the efficient nonlinear analysis of frameworks.
During one revolution of a gear, the intensity of the gear-meshing noise or vibration will vary, depending upon the run-out in the pitch diameter of the gear. Here noise can be produced bu excentricity of the shaft with respect to the base circle and by pitch errors. According to the noise generated is clearly dependent on the force and the amount of energy expended in elastically straining the machine member. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the analysis of the noise and technical reduction of gear noise for machine tool.
A form-finding procedure is presented for planar tensegrity structures. Notably, a simple decision criteria is proposed to select the desirable candidate position vector from the unitary matrix produced by the eigenvalue decomposition of force density matrix. The soundness of the candidate position vector guarantees faster convergence and produces a desirable form of tensegrity without any member having zero-length. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the capability of the proposed form-finding process.

On SWS 41 Plates jointed by the F11T M 20 high strength bolts the study on stress behavior and safety degree until rupture in static tensile tests were performed. By these results, in case of no clamping force stress concentration was extremed for strain of about 10% higher ratio. Elastic strain occurred to change of test specimens depth by the load and plastic strain occurred to local minute sleep after elastic strain. compared shear stress with tension stress from the fracture load it was showned lower values than the maximum shear stress theory and stress strain energy theory.

In this paper a useful method on evaluating the joint stiffness of bolted memeber was introduced using optimization technique on the basis of Finite Element Method. A finite element model having one directional gap element at bo undary area was introduced to compensate the prying force in jointed members which might caused by geometrical configuration of members. Results showed a good aggrement with classical method in certain range and will be available to definine the design margine of pre-load design.
This study presents a new stress analysis method to be substituted for the elastic analysis in such a plastic design procedure. This method is accompanied by an efficient mathematical tool which can be easily handled by personal computer. The method also easily accepts arbitrary strategies by the designer for selection member size.
A numerical study using linear finite element analysis is performed to investigate the behavior of basement wall subject to soil and water pressure. Currently, structural design of basement wall is based on the assumption for boundary condition of plate, which may lead to the erroneous results. In this study, parametric studies are performed to investigate the variation of moment and shear force according to column-to-wall stiffness ratios and aspect ratios. Scaled factors applicable to the design of basement wall are proposed with the illustration of desist examples.
