Member Utilization Concept Design for Hollow Circular Section Multi-column Tower Subjected to 10MW Level Wind Turbines (10MW급 풍력발전용 원형강관 멀티기둥타워의 부재유용도 개념설계)

  • This study presents an example of conceptual design for hollow circular section multi-column tower system subjected to 10MW level wind load by introducing a method based on member utilization that examine both structural stability and economical efficiency. The basic assumptions for the proto type of a multi-column tower that can replace a single-cylinder tower were suggested and structural models were constructed following the assumptions and analyzed for identifying member forces. Based on the calculated member strengths and acting loads, the member utilization of the proposed multi-column tower structures were calculated for axial force, shear, bending and torsion and evaluaed for suitability as a wind tower. Design parameters such as steel tube dimensions, slenderness ratio, and number of floors for braces was proposed in the acceptable range of member utilization for conceptual design of multi-column wind towers.

Family Member Network of Kings in Chosun Dynasty (조선왕조 가계 인물 네트워크)

  • Family member network of kings in Chosun dynasty shows scale free network properties as if most social networks do. One of distinct topological properties of the network is relatively high diameter that reflects dataset composed of the one generation continuously falling to next one. When k-core algorithm as a useful tool for obtaining a core network from the complex family member network was employed, it is possible to obtain hidden and valuable information from a complex network. Unfortunately, it is found that k-core algorithm is not useful tool for applying narrow and deep structural network. The family member network is composed of kings, queens, princes, and princesses. It is possible to separate sub-family members and to construct sub-family member networks such as queen-centered, prince-centered, and princess-centered networks. Sub-family member networks provide an useful and hidden information. These results provide new insight that is analyzed by network-based approaches for the family member of the kings in the Chosun dynasty.

  • Using pultrusion process, FRP composite structural members having various cross-section shapes can be produced with unlimited lengths. Because of such reasons, these members are suitable for the application in the construction field. Especially, this material is highly appreciated if the material is to be used in the corrosive environments such as aquatic or oceanic environments due to its high corrosion resistance. However, design criteria for the FRP structural member are not developed yet. So, the research on the development of design guideline is needed ungently. In order to use the pultruded structural FRP member efficiently, the members are composed of thin plate components, and thus, the member is prone to buckle easily and the buckling is one of the governing strength limit states for the design. In this paper, we present the analytical study results pertaining to the buckling behavior of I-shape FRP compression member. In addition, design procedure and flow-chart are also proposed based on the study results including previous experimental results. Proposed design procedure is similar to that in ANSI/AISC 360-10 with minor modification. Therefore, it is convinced that the structural design of pultruded FRP compression member could be done easily by following design procedure proposed in this paper.

A Study on Calling, Resillence, Leader-Member Exchange and Nursing Work Environment of Nurses in Small and Medium Sized Hospital (중소병원 간호사의 소명의식, 회복탄력성, 리더-구성원 관계 및 간호업무환경에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data for the development of a nursing manpower maintenance and management program by assessing the relationship among the calling, resilience, leader-member exchange, and nursing work environments of small and medium-sized hospital nurses. Data was collected through a structuralized questionnaire survey conducted on small and medium-sized hospital nurses. The results of this study indicated calling had positive correlation with resilience, leader-member exchange, and nursing work environments, while resilience had positive correlation with leader-member exchange and nursing work environments. There also was positive correlation between leader-member exchange and nursing work environments. Accordingly, there is a need to develop a program to offer motivation to increase calling and resilience from the personal perspective of the small and medium-sized hospital nurses. In addition, a program is necessary to strengthen continuous leadership of the hospital administrator to improve the leader-member exchange and nursing work environment from organizational perspective.

Neighborhood Networks, Identity as a Neighborhood Member, and Volunteering (지역연결망 및 지역성원으로서의 정체성이 자원봉사 참여에 미치는 영향)

  • Volunteering has been defined as a form of altruistic helping behavior directed at improving other's welfare. Volunteering is, however, also identified as a type of collective action for community welfare. In this regard, this study tests whether neighborhood member's network and collective identity are more important determinants to explain participation in volunteer work than altruistic or normative motivation. This study estimates a model in which volunteering is determined by empathy, normative beliefs, neighborhood networks(friendship, contacts, and integration), and identity as a neighborhood member. This study shows that empathy, normative beliefs, and collective identity as a neighborhood member have significant impacts on participation in volunteer work. In addition, this study reveals that neighborhood member's network has an indirect impact on volunteering through identity as a neighborhood member. These results suggest that neighbor-hood community member's ties and collective identity are important sources for community welfare and collective volunteer work.

  • The purpose of this paper is twofold: (1) to investigate how the online communities of restaurants affect the members and create the value by exploring some desirable member behaviors related to the membership, and (2) to examine the possible moderating effect of topic involvement on a member behavior paradigm. The sense of membership was proposed as a prerequisite determinant of two basic member behavior (i.e., purchase-related behavior and group-related behavior). Results of this study confirmed that the level of a member's sense of membership had a positive effect on his/her member behavior. The topic involvement levels of a member was further revealed to strengthen the magnitudes of the proposed relationships. Highly involved members were more likely to engage in both purchase-related behavior and group-related behavior when they were attached to their communities.

Experimental and numerical analyses on axial cyclic behavior of H-section aluminium alloy members

  • This paper considers the combination of cyclic and axial loads to investigate the hysteretic performance of H-section 6061-T6 aluminum alloy members. The hysteretic performance of aluminum alloy members is the basis for the seismic performance of aluminum alloy structures. Despite the prevalence of aluminum alloy reticulated shells structures worldwide, research into the seismic performance of aluminum alloy structures remains inadequate. To address this deficiency, we design and conduct cyclic axial load testing of three H-section members based on a reliable testing system. The influence of slenderness ratios and bending direction on the failure form, bearing capacity, and stiffness degradation of each member are analyzed. The experiment results show that overall buckling dominates the failure mechanism of all test members before local buckling occurs. As the load increases after overall buckling, the plasticity of the member develops, finally leading to local buckling and fracture failure. The results illustrate that the plasticity development of the local buckling position is the main reason for the stiffness degradation and failure of the member. Additionally, with the increase of the slenderness ratio, the energy-dissipation capacity and stiffness of the member decrease significantly. Simultaneously, a finite element model based on the Chaboche hybrid strengthening model is established according to the experiment, and the rationality of the constitutive model and validity of the finite element simulation method are verified. The parameter analysis of twenty-four members with different sections, slenderness ratios, bending directions, and boundary conditions are also carried out. Results show that the section size and boundary condition of the member have a significant influence on stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity. Based on the above, the appropriate material constitutive relationship and analysis method of H-section aluminum alloy members under cyclic loading are determined, providing a reference for the seismic design of aluminum alloy structures.

  • The quality growth of online education triggered by remote education platforms such as Coursera and edX has increased the demand for lifelong education through online platforms. In response, South Korea has also created various lifelong education support systems and sites in government agencies and local governments. Each support system and web sites created its own member information collection system. The systematic collection and utilization of learners' information requires an integrated member management system of each system. Therefore, the current status of member information collection of state-level lifelong education support systems was analyzed. Based on this, it distinguishes between member information that systems collect in common and information that they collect separately. It will help to bridge the items underlying the integrated membership framework.

Experimental Assessment of Reduction in the Negative Skin Friction Using a Pile with a Member Responding to Ground Deformation (지반 변형 대응 부재를 적용한 말뚝의 부마찰력 저감 성능의 실험적 검증)

  • Ground in extremely cold and hot regions can sink by various environmental factors. Ground settlement can generate the negative skin friction to pile shaft, increase the base load of pile, and cut the stability of the pile. This study proposed a member responding ground deformation which can be inserted inside the pile. The member slightly compresses according to the ground settlement to reduce the negative skin friction. As the member materials, this study considered spring and spring-dashpot. To assess the ability of the member, the present research performed model tests for piles with or without the member within settled ground. In the model tests, the base load, total shaft resistance, and horizontal earth pressure were monitored and analyzed. Experimental results show that the pile with spring member can reduce the negative skin friction under small settlement conditions whereas it acts similar to the pile without the member under large settlement conditions as the spring was no longer compressed. However, the pile with the spring-dashpot member can reduce the negative skin friction continuously upon the ground settlement as the dashpot delays the load transfer to the spring and locates friction force on the unloading path.
