Review of Clinical Studies on Korean Medicine for Acne Scar (여드름 흉터의 한의학 치료에 대한 국내 임상 연구 동향)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze various Korean medical treatments on acne scar and to propose better methods on clinical studies and effective treatments. Methods : Key word 'Acne Scar', published year '2010-2018' were searched on three domestic database systems (RISS, KISS, NDSL). Results : Among 9 studies, 8 studies were case reports and 1 study was comparative study. The treatment used in 9 studies were acupuncture(Subcision, Microneedle Therapy System, laser), pharmacopuncture, external application, dermabrasion, high frequency therapy. 7 out of 9 studies used more than 2 different treatments. The most popular treatment method was 'subcision', followed by 'MTS'. The most popular methods of assessment was QGASC. All studies using assessment methods measuring the severity of acne scar reported improvement, though only 1 study was proved to be statistically different. 1 study reported the side effect, and other 4 studies reported flushing, itching, pain. Conclusions : This study shows the effectiveness of Korean medical treatment on acne scar. It will be expected to use this various treatments and study methods for treating acne scar with Korean medicine, and conducting further clinical studies with higher credibility and reproducibility.

Influence of The Neck acupressure massage and The Neck Cream Including Korean Herbal Extract on The Neck Wrinkles and Facial Blood Circulation. (경항부 수기요법과 한방 목 크림이 목 주름과 안면 혈행에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • Objectives: We investigated the influence of the neck acupressure massage and the neck cream including korean herbal extract on the neck wrinkles and blood circulation. Methods: Korean female($37.47{\pm}3.66$ years, n=18) aged 30-39 years were participated in this study. We measured the neck wrinkles with PRIMOS(GFMesstechnik GmbH, Germany) and blood circulation of neck and facial skin with Laser Doppler Imaging-Periscan PIM II(Perimed AB, Sweden). Results: The neck wrinkles were significantly decreased after applying neck cream. But when with the neck acupressure massage, the neck wrinkles were decreased 2-fold than applying only the neck cream. The skin blood circulation was significantly increased on the neck and facial skin immediately after the neck acupressure massage. But this effect was not significantly different after 8 weeks Conclusions: This result suggests that the neck acupressure massage can improve the anti-wrinkles effect of the neck cream including Korean herbal extract.

Laser 방식 및 CCD 방식 Film Digitizer의 균일도 비교평가

  • 디지털 의료영상 획득기술과 컴퓨터 및 네트워크 기술의 발달로 현재 각 병원에서는 PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System)를 설치하여 필름을 사용하지 않고 진단과 진료를 하는 병원이 증가하고 있으며, 이에 따라 기존 필름상태의 의료영상은 필름디지타이저로 디지털 영상화한 후 모니터를 통하여 판독과 진료에 이용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 세브란스병원에서 사용되고 있는 CCD 방식 필름디지타이저와 레이저 스캐너방식 필름디지타이저의 픽셀값 균일도에 대해 중점적으로 비교, 분석하고자 한다. 픽셀값 균일도 측정을 위해 필름프린터를 이용하여 균일한 광학밀도를 가진 필름을 출력하였다. 그 테스트 필름은 각 사분면에 각기 다른 광학밀도를 가지고 있었으며, 그 광학밀도 값은 각각 0.19, 0.71, 1.41, 그리고 3.10 이었다. 제작된 필름은 레이저 (Model 2905, Array Corp., Japan) 방식과 CCD 방식 (SEDAS Media Film Scanner, Kodak, japan) 디지타이저에 의해 디지털화 되었다. 그 영상들은 다시 분석을 위해 PACS를 통해 PC로 전송되어졌고 자체 제작된 소프트웨어를 이용하여 균일도에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. 하나의 사분면 영상에 대하여 일정한 간격과 크기로 20개의 ROI를 만들고, 그 내부의 픽셀값들의 평균값을 구하여 그 영역의 대푯값으로 하였다. 그 대푯값들 중 최대값과 최소값의 차이에 대한 백분율로써 균일도를 표시하였다. 그 결과 광학밀도가 0.19인 사분변의 영상에서의 균일도는 레이저 방식 및 CCD 방식 각각에서 99.8%, 94.3%였으며, 0.71인 사분면에서는 99.4%, 75.6%, 1.41 일때는 97.9%, 62.96%, 그리고 3.1인 사분면에서는 82.7%, 53.7%였다. 같은 광학밀도를 가진 사분면에서는 레이저방식의 균일도가 CCD 방식에 비해 더 우수함을 알 수 있었으며, 같은 방식에서 얻은 영상이라 할지라도 광학 밀도값이 높은 사분변에서 얻은 영상일수록 균일도가 떨어짐을 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로, 레이저 방식 필름 디지타이저는 균일도 면에서도 CCD 방식에 비해 우수함을 알 수 있었으며 CCD 방식은 백라이트의 균일도가 영상의 균일도에 영향을 미칠수도 있는 만큼 향후 거기에 대한 연구도 이루어져야 할 것으로 생각된다.

Picosecond Fluorescence Lifetimes of Hematoporphyrin Derivatives in Solutions and in vitro (용액 및 시험관 실험에서의 헤마토포르피린 유도체 분자의 피코초 형광수명시간 분석)

  • The picosecond time resolved fluorescence spectra of Hematoporphyrin Derivative (HPD) in both solutions and cancer cell are measured by a time correlated single photon counting system with a synchronously mode locked dye laser. Two exoponential decay components in the fluorescence spectra were observed. The slow decay(6.3 ㎱)and the fast one(350 ㎰)are attributed to be originated from monomers and dimers, respectively. The absorption and fluorescence measurements in steady state also showed the presence of a monomeric and dimeric forms of HPD molecules. The monomer lifetime in the cancer cell was measured to be longer than that in solution, which was expected from the blue shift and narrowing of the absorption spectra for HPD-treated in vitro. The relative amplitude of the fast component was found to be enhanced in cancer cell, strongly indicating the higher affinity of the dimer for the cancer cell.

Alteration of Phospholipids during the Mitophagic Process in Lung Cancer CellsS

  • Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI)-time of flight/mass spectrometry (TOF/MS) was applied to investigate alterations in phospholipids in mitophagic cancer cells. Several phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholines (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), and phosphatidylinositols (PIs), were successfully analyzed in control and mitophagy-induced H460 cells in the positive and negative ion modes. Principal component analysis was applied to differentiate the two groups. The upregulated and downregulated phospholipid species in the mitophagic cells were also represented in a heatmap. In the volcano plot (fold change > 1.3 and p value < 0.01), individual species of seven PCs, two SMs, and three PIs were selected as differentially regulated phospholipids. In particular, almost all the molecular species of PC, SM, and PI were downregulated in the mitophagic cells. Quantification of these lipids indicated that mitophagy induces altered metabolism of phospholipids. Therefore, phospholipid alterations during the mitophagic process of lung cancer cells were well characterized by MALDI-TOF/MS.

A Review of Recent Studies for Treatment of TMD Using CNKI Database (CNKI 검색을 통한 턱관절 장애 치료의 최신 연구 동향)

  • Objectives The purpose of this research is to investigate recent clinical studies of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder in China. Methods We investigated recent clinical studies of Oriental Medicine therapies in traditional Chinese medical journals for Temporomandibular Joint Disorder through CNKI search. 20 clinical articles published from 2010 to 2015 were analyzed. This study examined the authors, published years, types of study designs, criteria for diagnosis and evaluation, periods, purposes of study and classified articles by techniques of treatment. Results Most of articles were classified as RCT. TMD was diagnosed by symptoms in a high proportion of articles. The criteria for evaluation that most frequently used were grading scale, but there was a lack of objectivity. The techniques of treatment were Tuina, acupuncture, herb medicine, electrotherapy, splint, PNF, congnitive behavior therapy, laser therapy, magnetic therapy. Conclusions In order to develop treatment of TMD in the Korean medicine, clinical studies for various therapies on a high level and cooperative studies between medical communities are needed.

  • The Radio-frequency electromagnetic(RFEM) spectrum is defined as waves that range in frequency from>0 to $3{\times}1012Hz$. Although there are several thousands of reports that present data or opinion of the biological response to RFEM radiation, no consensus has emerged regarding thresholds and mechanisms of injury. This review presents a overview of the subject on mechanisms of interaction of RFEM fields with tissue, chromosomal and mutagenic effect. carcinogenic effects. The scope of the review is expanded to include systemic effects such as those on reproduction, growth, and development, hematological effects. Some biological end points, those with associated with behavior and cataractogenesis is discussed.

Biomarkers Screening Between Preoperative and Postoperative Patients in Pancreatic Cancer

  • Objective: To investigate discriminating protein patterns and potential biomarkers in serum samples between pre/postoperative pancreatic cancer patients and healthy controls. Methods: 23 serum samples from PC patients (12 preoperative and 11 postoperative) and 76 from healthy controls were analyzed using matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) technique combined with magnetic beads-based weak cation-exchange chromatography (MB-WCX). ClinProTools software selected several markers that made a distinction between pancreatic cancer patients and healthy controls. Results: 49 m/z distinctive peaks were found among the three groups, of which 33 significant peaks with a P < 0.001 were detected. Two proteins could distinguish the preoperative pancreatic cancer patients from the healthy controls. About 15 proteins may be potential biomarkers in assessment of pancreatic cancer resection. Conclusion: MB-MALDI-TOF-MS method could generate serum peptidome profiles of pancreatic cancer and provide a new approach to identify potential biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of this malignancy.

Feasibility Study of a Custom-made Film for End-to-End Quality Assurance Test of Robotic Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy System

  • This paper aims to verify the clinical feasibility of a custom-made film created by a laser cutting tool for End-to-End (E2E) quality assurance in robotic intensity modulated radiation therapy system. The custom-made film was fabricated from the Gafchromic EBT3 film with the size of $8^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times}10^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ using a drawing that is identical to the shape and scale of the original E2E film. The drawing was created by using a computer aided design program with the image file, which is obtained by scanning original E2E film. Beam delivery and evaluations were respectively performed with the original film and the custom-made film using fixed-cone collimator on three tracking modes: 6D skull (6DS), Xsight spine (XS), and Xsight lung (XL). The differences between total targeting errors of the original and custom-made films were recorded as 0.17 mm, 0.3 mm, and 0.17 mm at 6DS, XS, and XL tracking modes, respectively. This indicates that the custom-made film could yield nearly equivalent results to those of the original E2E film, given the uncertainties caused by distortions during film scanning and vibrations associated with film cutting. By confirming the clinical feasibility of a custom-made film for E2E testing, it can be expected that economic efficiency of the testing will increase accordingly.

  • Photodynamic therapy has been suggested as an alternative treatment to current cancer therapy which resulting in a variety of side effects because photodynamic therapy targets specific cancer cells and does not have a significant effect on normal cells. Typically, laser was used as a photodynamic therapy, but this was limited due to high cost and heat reaction. However, compact light emitting diodes that can emit light of various wavelengths have been developed at a low cost, which has a great influence on the low cost development of photodynamic therapy equipment. On the other hand, in the study of photodynamic therapy, the data on the direct effect of visible light are relatively small. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel cancer therapeutic module by developing a cancer cell proliferation inhibition module based on an Arduino that is relatively inexpensive, and able to use light of various wavelengths.
