The purpose of this study is to predict the defibrillation success of a ventricular Fibrillation ECG signal using time-frequency analysis. During CPR, coronary perfusion pressure and electrocardiogram were measured. Parameters extracted from time-frequency domain were served as predictor of resuscitation success. Time frequency distribution(TFD) of ECG signals was estimated from the smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution(SPWVD). Median frequency, peak frequency, 1/f slope, frequency band ratios$(2{\sim}4Hz,\;4{\sim}6Hz,\;6{\sim}8Hz,\;8{\sim}10Hz,\;10{\sim}12Hz,\;12{\sim}15Hz)$ were extracted from each TFD as function of time. Paired t-test was used to determine the differences in ROSC and non-ROSC groups. In the statistical results, we selected four significant parameters - median frequency, 1/f slope, $2{\sim}4Hz$ band ratio, $8{\sim}10Hz$ band ratio. We made an attempt to predict defibrillation success by combining features extracted from time frequency distribution. Independent t-test was used to determine the differences ROSC and non-ROSC groups. Consequently, we selected four significant parameters-median frequency, 1/f slope, $2{\sim}4Hz$ band ratio, $8{\sim}10Hz$ band ratio. The relationship between coronary perfusion pressure and ECG parameters was analyzed with linear regression analysis. R-square value was 55%. 1/f slope and $8{\sim}10Hz$ band ratio had the significant relationship with coronary perfusion pressure.
This study was performed to investigate the effects of alcohol drinking frequency and foods consumed along with alcohol on anthropometry, serum lipid levels, and blood pressures in 73 male type 2 diabetic patients aged 30-59 years old. Dietary data for usual intake were obtained from the subjects by the 3-day food records. Separate data for foods consumed along with alcohol as accompaniment were collected and analyzed for energy and nutrient intakes. Both alcohol drinking frequency and/or the amount of energy consumed from accompaniment influenced clinical data as well as anthropometric measurements. The serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride levels and systolic blood pressure were significantly higher in the group with a drinking frequency of ${\geq}$ 2/week than that of ${\leq}$ 1/week and also in the group whose daily energy intake from accompaniment was greater than the median (106.6 kcal/d) than that below the median. When the data were adjusted for age, amount of energy intake from alcohol and diet, the anothropometric measurements such as body weight, BMI, waist circumference were significantly higher in patients whose energy intake from accompaniment was greater than the median than that below the median. The results of our study suggest that both alcohol drinking frequency and the energy intake from foods consumed along with alcohol as accompanements are important contributing factors to clinical and anthropometric parameters whose associations with the cardiovascular complications are well established in patients with diabetes mellitus.

In this paper, we present a effective method of gait rehabilitation training using critical point of median frequency in muscle fatigue analysis using EMG. To target the five healthy volunteers, EMG signal were measured in the quadriceps femoris muscle and the tibialis anterior muscle in order to determine muscle fatigue. We performed a test targeting three adult male for 30 minutes on a treadmill at a speed of 6km/h same. EMG signal analysis in frequency and median frequency is calculated to quantification of muscle fatigue, and calculated the critical point which is saturated by muscle fatigue during 30 minutes. We set saturated point the threshold which muscle can withstand. The results of this paper, we are able to quantify the threshold of the muscle.
In the present study, thirteen healthy volunteers performed lumbar extension exercises at 48$^{\circ}$/s, loaded by 40, 50, 60kg(about 44, 55, 66% of maximum voluntary contraction). During the whole period of exercises, electromyographic(EMG) signal was measured in the erector spinae muscle in order to determine muscle fatigue. Using the wavelet transform, EMG signal was separated by various frequency ranges in the time-frequency domain, and muscle fatigue was analyzed, comparing with the results based on the median frequency(MDF). MDF shifted toward the lower frequency ranges with the muscle fatigue, showing a single characteristic frequency. On the other hand, wavelet transform of EMG signals resulted in increased power amplitude in lower frequency ranges(0-125Hz), and decreased power amplitude in higher frequency ranges(375-468Hz). This study reveals that the muscle fatigue during dynamic movement is explained better by wavelet analysis.
A median is a safety feature most commonly used to separate opposing traffic on a divided highway. In designing highways, the selection and installation of a median can be a critical part from a safety viewpoint because road crossing accidents are definitely more serious than other accidents. In regard to the important function of the median. the proper countermeasure ought to have been provided and thorough study should have been carried out. In this paper, traffic accident data are analyzed to examine the accident reduction effect of the median, which are gathered from all over 4-lane national roads in Korea. The traffic accident data were categorized into two groups by the existence of a median. For more effective analysis, the data have been classified by accident type, severity. and occurrence time. To compare the effectiveness of median installation, not only the accident frequency but also the accident severity, EPDO. and the occupancy rate of specific accidents have been used as a mode of effectiveness. The analysis of the effectiveness of medians shows that both the accident frequency and the accident severity could decrease by providing a median. Also the section where a median was supplied showed the improvement of overall safety through fewer serious and fatal crashes as well as fewer head-on crashes. Therefore, conclusions can be drawn from results of this study that the median installation is an important means to increase the safety of over 4-lane national roads. This study is expected to provide the reasonability of the median installation by identifying the reduction of traffic accident after the median installation and to play a major role in selecting sections where the median is to be offered.
The automated ECG diagnostic systems in hospital have a low P-wave detection capacity in case of some diseases like conduction block. The purpose of this study is to improve the P-wave detection ca- pacity using wavelet transform. The first procedure is to remove baseline drift by subtracting the median filtered signal from the original signal. The second procedure is to cancel ECG's QRS-T complex from median filtered signal to get P-wave candidate. Before we subtracted the templete from QRS-T complex, we estimated the best matching between templete and QRS-T complex to minimize the error. Then, wavelet transform was applied to confirm P-wave. In particular, haiti wavelet was used to magnify P-wave that consisted of low frequency components and to reject high frequency noise of QRS-T complex cancelled signal. Finally, p-wave was discriminated and confirmed by threshold value. By using this method, We can got the around 95.1% P-wave detection. It was compared with contextual information.
Impact characteristics of six DM(Diabetes Mellitus) shoe insole materials (Podian, Plastazote black, Plastazote white, Flexible PU foam, Podialene 200 blue and Podia flex) and three multi-density insoles (AP, OS and PW insoles) were determined in the present study, using a self-designed impact measurement system. The coefficient of restitution, the median frequency and the attenuation index were calculated for each material, based on impact forces and linear accelerations. Podian revealed the superiority in the coefficient of restitution and the attenuation index. The median frequency of the Flexible PU foam was the smallest. Results also showed that the heel region was the most impact-attenuated among other areas in the insole. OS insole showed the better characteristics in the coefficient of restitution and the median frequency. but there was no significant difference in the attenuation index. Similar impact characteristics were found in all areas in PW insole. since it was basically of the same dual-density polyurethane.
Objective: To examine the effects of different shoe weights on lower leg muscle fatigue when walking by electromyographic (EMG) analysis due to the most effective weight for loading not being established. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty healthy university students (15 male, 15 female) were enrolled and randomly assigned into three conditions, which included wearing athletic shoes with an addition of 300 g, 500 g, and 1,000 g weights respectively. Prior to walking, all subjects were instructed to sit in a chair for 10 minutes. All subjects walked at a speed of 3.6 m/s on a treadmill for 20 minutes without rest. EMG measurements were taken using the median power frequency to assess for the effect of the different weight of shoes on muscle fatigue of the soleus, gastrocnemius, and tibialis anterior while walking on a treadmill in an upright posture. EMG measurements were taken during the first and last 30 seconds of walking. Results: In terms of muscle fatigue, for the soleus, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g compared with 300 g and 500 g (p<0.05). For the tibialis anterior, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g than 300 g and 500 g (p<0.05). For the gastrocnemius, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g compared with 300 g (p<0.05). Conclusions: Increased shoe weight increases soleus, gastrocnemius, and tibialis anterior muscle fatigue during ambulation.
The characteristics of the rock cleavage inherent in Jurassic granite from Geochang were analysed. The phases of distribution of microcrack spacings were derived from the enlarged photomicrographs(${\times}6.7$) of the thin section. The evaluation for the six directions of rock cleavages was performed using nine parameters such as (1) frequency of microcrack spacing(N), (2) frequency ratio(${\leq}1mm$ and 4 mm >) to total spacing frequency(N:191), (3) spacing ratio(${\leq}1mm$) to total spacing(118.49 mm), (4) mean spacing($S_{mean}$), (5) difference value($S_{mean}-S_{median}$) between mean spacing and median spacing($S_{median}$), (6) density of spacing, (7) median spacing, (8) reduction ratio of spacing frequency to length frequency and (9) magnitude of exponent(${\lambda}$ and b) related to the distribution type of diagram. Especially the close dependence between the above spacing parameters and the parameters from the spacing-cumulative frequency diagrams was derived. The results of correlation analysis between the values of parameters for three rock cleavages and those for three planes are as follows. The values of (I) parameters(1, 2 and 3), (II) parameters(4, 5 and 6), (III) parameter(7), (IV) parameter(8) and (V) parameter(9) show the various orders of H(hardway, H1+H2) < G(grain, G1+G2) < R(rift, R1+R2), R < G < H, R < H < G, G < H < R and H < G < R, respectively. On the contrary, the values of the above four groups(I~IV) of parameters for three planes show reverse orders. This type of correlation analysis is useful for discriminating three quarrying planes. Six spacing-cumulative frequency diagrams were arranged in increasing order on the value of main parameter($S_{mean}-S_{median}$). These diagrams show an order of R2 < R1 < G2 < G1 < H2 < H1 from the related chart. In other words, the above six diagrams can be summarized in order of rift(R1+R2) < grain(G1+G2) < hardway(H1+H2). These results indicate a relative magnitude of rock cleavage related to microcrack spacing. Especially, the above main parameter could provide advanced information for prediction the order of arrangement among the diagrams.
The median ages at death from cancers between 1985 and 2005 were calculated to demonstrate that inherent anticancer mechanisms may be a common pathway for different cancers. Seventy-eight patients with gastric, liver and lung cancers, were recruited in the solid cancer group. The leukemia group consisted of 31 patients with three main types of leukemia. The controls were 100 healthy individuals. The samples were typed using an HLA-DR/DQ PCR-SSP typing kit. The results showed that the median ages at death from all causes were 64.7 years in 1985 and 70.1 years in 2005. The range of the median ages at death from all cancers was similar to the corresponding value for deaths attributed to all causes. The frequency of $DRB1^*03$ was 9.6% in the solid cancer group and 3.0% in the control group (p<0.05). The frequency of $DRB1^*04$ in the leukemia group were significantly lower than that of the control (p<0.05). $DRB1^*13$ and $DRB1^*06$ frequencies in the leukemia group were significantly higher than those of the controls (p<0.05). It is suggested that inherent anti-cancer mechanisms may be a common pathway for different cancers and are associated with the immune system and HLA.
