In this paper, the finite element analysis of a valve screw for a LPG cylinder has been presented on the leakage safety and strength one, which are computed and investigated by a contact normal stress and von Mises stress between a female screw of a valve and a male screw of a neck ring in a LPG bombe. The LP gas charging pressure of a LPG bombe is $8{\sim}9kg/cm^2$, which is pressurized to the screw sealing contact areas between a valve and a LP gas cylinder. The peak failures of the screw tooth height due to a scratch wear and chipping loss of the contact area may decrease screw tooth strength and increase a leakage of a LP gas. These are strongly affect to the contact normal and von Mises stresses of the valve screws. The FEM computed results show that the tooth height loss due to a wear and chipping failure of the screw peak does not affect to the LP gas leak and strength of a valve screw theoretically. But if the tooth wear of the screw height of a brass valve overpasses the critical strength safety of the valve, the valve screw may be failed in fastening the valve and a LP gas bombe suddenly.

This paper is a purpose to study the failure examples for a large bus vehicle fire. The first example, the researcher certified the fact that the absorbing material break away from the upper side of engine room because of weaken durability and the fire was produced in engine. The second example, it sought the fact that the fire breaks out by electric short because of over-load of compressor. The third example, it found the fact that the fire took place by heating of bellows upper part that was connected with muffler and exhaust manifold. The fourth example, it knew the fact that the fire occurred because of the electric short inside junction box of crash body part that was located to driver seat rightside. Therefore, the fire of a large bus occurring by decrepit of absorbing material and electric short have to thoroughgoingly manage the damage and dangerousness if it happens.

The mechanical properties of 2D ceramic composites fabricated bythe newly developed powder infiltration and subsequent multiple impregnation process were characterised by both 3-point flexure and tensile tests. These tests were performed with strain gauge and acoustic emission instrument. The woven fabric composites used for the test have the basic combinations of $Al_{2}$$O_{3}$ fabric/$Al_{2}$$O_{3}$ and SiC fabric (Tyranno)/SiC. Uniaxially aligned SiC fibre(Textron SCS-6)/SiC composites were also tested for comparison, The ultimate flexural strength and first-matrix cracking stress of SiC fabric/SiC composite with 73% of theoretical density were about 300 MPa and 77 MPa respectively. However, the ultimate tensile strengths of composite were generally one third of flexural strengths, and first-matrix cracking stress in a tension test was also much lower than the value obtained from flexure test. The lower mechanical properties measured by tension test were analysed quantitatively bythe differences in stressed volume using Weibull statistics. This showed that the ultimate strength and the firs-tmatrix cracking stress of woven laminate composites were mainly determined bythe gauge length of fibres and the stressed volume of matrix respectively. Incorporation of SiC whiskers into the matrix increased first-matrix cracking stress by increasing the matrix failure strain of composites.
In an uniaxial compressive test of a concrete standard specimen (150$\times$300 mm) the crack initiation and extension with the stress increase are the major reason of the failure, which is similar to the breakage of the particle bonding in the simulation by using particle bonded model, especially particle flow code in 3 dimensions (PFC3D) developed by Itasca Consulting Group Inc. That is the main motive to study the possibility of an uniaxial compressive strength test simulation. It is important to investigate the relationship between the micro-parameters and the macro-properties because the 3-dimensional particle bonded model uses the spherical particles to analyze the physical phenomena. Contact bonded model used herein has eight micro-parameters and there are five macro-properties; Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, uniaxial compressive strength and the crack initiation stress and the ratio concerning the crack propagation with the stress. To simulate the compressive test we made quantitative relationships between the micro-parameters and the macro-properties by using the fractional factorial design and various sensitivity analyses including regression analysis, which result in the good agreement with the previous studies. Also, the stress-stain curve and the crack distribution over the specimen given by PFC3D showed the mechanical behavior of the concrete standard specimen under the uniaxial compression. It is concluded that the particle bonded model can be a good tool for the analyzing the mechanical behavior of concrete under the uniaxial compressive load.

Purpose: Abrupt abstinence from alcohol in cause of chronic alcohol addiction can trigger alcohol withdrawal syndrome. The authors studied the effect of post-operative alcohol withdrawal syndrome in patients who require intensive care due to trauma. Methods: For the study group, we selected 70 patients who had undergone emergency surgery from May 2003 to March 2007 due to trauma and who had been treated with prophylactic thiamine. Data was collected retrospectively. We excluded those who extended their hospital stay for other than traumatic causes, those who died within 3 days of surgery after trauma, those who transferred to other institutions, and those who received a psychiatric diagnosis. Patient groups were determined by the existence or the non-existence of withdrawal syndrome. Age, sex, injury mechanism, mortality, complications, durations of hospital stay and intensive care, use of mechanical ventilator, and sedative use were investigated. A Chi-square test and The Mann-Whitney method were used for statistical analysis in this study. Results: Twenty-four (24) patients from the 58 who had an ISS of 16 or more showed alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and men were shown to be affected with the syndrome significantly more than women. Although ISS was higher in the group with alcohol withdrawal syndrome, statistically, the difference was not significant (P<0.08). The total hospital stay in the patient group with alcohol withdrawal syndrome was on average 10 days longer. However, the difference was not significant (P<0.054). The duration of intensive care in the patient group with alcohol withdrawal syndrome was significantly longer (P<0.029). The patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome showed no significant difference in the duration of mechanical ventilator use (P<0.783), or in the duration of sedative use (P<0.284). Respiratory distress, pneumonia, upper airway infection, sepsis, acute renal failure, and mortality in the alcohol withdrawal syndrome group were investigated, but no statistically significant difference were noted. Conclusion: We found that the duration of intensive care in chronic alcohol abusers was longer due to the development of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. We also discovered that, when the patients overcame the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome after intensive care, no difference was found in the frequency of developing complications, the morbidity, and the mortality. Therefore, we conclude that intensive care in trauma patients who are chronic alcohol abusers decreases the incidence of complications found in patients with post-operative alcohol withdrawal syndrome and does not adversely impact the prognoses for those patients.
Network RTK is a highly practical technology that can provide high positioning accuracy at levels between cm~dm regardless of user location in the network by extending the available range of RTK using reference station network. In particular, unlike other carrier-based positioning techniques such as PPP, users are able to acquire high-accuracy positions within a short initialization time of a few or tens of seconds, which increases its value as a future navigation system. However, corrections must be continuously received to maintain a high level of positioning accuracy, and when a time delay of more than 30 seconds occurs, the accuracy may be reduced to the code-based positioning level of meters. In case of SSR, which is currently in the process of standardization for PPP service, the corrections by each error source are transmitted in different transmission intervals, and the rate of change of each correction is transmitted together to compensate the time delay. Using these features of SSR correction is expected to reduce the performance degradation even if users do not receive the network RTK corrections for more than 30 seconds. In this paper, the simulation data were generated from 5 domestic reference stations in Gunwi, Yeongdoek, Daegu, Gimcheon, and Yecheon, and the network RTK and SSR corrections were generated for the corresponding data and applied to the simulation data from Cheongsong reference station, assumed as the user. As a result of the experiment assuming 30 seconds of missing data, the positioning performance compensating for time delay by SSR was analyzed to be horizontal RMS (about 5 cm) and vertical RMS (about 8 cm), and the 95% error was 8.7 cm horizontal and 1cm vertical. This is a significant amount when compared to the horizontal and vertical RMS of 0.3 cm and 0.6 cm, respectively, for Network RTK without time delay for the same data, but is considerably smaller compared to the 0.5 ~ 1 m accuracy level of DGPS or SBAS. Therefore, maintaining Network RTK mode using SSR rather than switching to code-based DGPS or SBAS mode due to failure to receive the network RTK corrections for 30 seconds is considered to be favorable in terms of maintaining position accuracy and recovering performance by quickly resolving the integer ambiguity when the communication channel is recovered.

Objectives: To evaluate the influence of the restorative technique on the mechanical response of endodontically-treated upper premolars with mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavity. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight premolars received MOD preparation (4 groups, n = 12) with different restorative techniques: glass ionomer cement + composite resin (the GIC group), a metallic post + composite resin (the MP group), a fiberglass post + composite resin (the FGP group), or no endodontic treatment + restoration with composite resin (the CR group). Cusp strain and load-bearing capacity were evaluated. One-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test were used with ${\alpha}=5%$. Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to calculate displacement and tensile stress for the teeth and restorations. Results: MP showed the highest cusp (p = 0.027) deflection ($24.28{\pm}5.09{\mu}m/{\mu}m$), followed by FGP ($20.61{\pm}5.05{\mu}m/{\mu}m$), CR ($17.62{\pm}7.00{\mu}m/{\mu}m$), and GIC ($17.62{\pm}7.00{\mu}m/{\mu}m$). For load-bearing, CR ($38.89{\pm}3.24N$) showed the highest, followed by GIC ($37.51{\pm}6.69N$), FGP ($29.80{\pm}10.03N$), and MP ($18.41{\pm}4.15N$) (p = 0.001) value. FEA showed similar behavior in the restorations in all groups, while MP showed the highest stress concentration in the tooth and post. Conclusions: There is no mechanical advantage in using intraradicular posts for endodontically-treated premolars requiring MOD restoration. Filling the pulp chamber with GIC and restoring the tooth with only CR showed the most promising results for cusp deflection, failure load, and stress distribution.

Objectives: Small animal maxillofacial models, such as non-segmental critical size defects (CSDs) in the rabbit mandible, need to be standardized for use as preclinical models of bone regeneration to mimic clinical conditions such as maxillofacial trauma. The objective of this study is the establishment of a mechanically competent CSD model in the rabbit mandible to allow standardized evaluation of bone regeneration therapies. Materials and Methods: Three sizes of bony defect were generated in the mandibular body of rabbit hemi-mandibles: $12mm{\times}5mm$, $12mm{\times}8mm$, and $15mm{\times}10mm$. The hemi-mandibles were tested to failure in 3-point flexure. The $12mm{\times}5mm$ defect was then chosen for the defect size created in the mandibles of 26 rabbits with or without cautery of the defect margins and bone regeneration was assessed after 6 and 12 weeks. Regenerated bone density and volume were evaluated using radiography, micro-computed tomography, and histology. Results: Flexural strength of the $12mm{\times}5mm$ defect was similar to its contralateral; whereas the $12mm{\times}8mm$ and $15mm{\times}10mm$ groups carried significantly less load than their respective contralaterals (P<0.05). This demonstrated that the $12mm{\times}5mm$ defect did not significantly compromise mandibular mechanical integrity. Significantly less (P<0.05) bone was regenerated at 6 weeks in cauterized defect margins compared to controls without cautery. After 12 weeks, the bone volume of the group with cautery increased to that of the control without cautery after 6 weeks. Conclusion: An empty defect size of $12mm{\times}5mm$ in the rabbit mandibular model maintains sufficient mechanical stability to not require additional stabilization. However, this defect size allows for bone regeneration across the defect. Cautery of the defect only delays regeneration by 6 weeks suggesting that the performance of bone graft materials in mandibular defects of this size should be considered with caution.
In the New space era, satellites are being developed to perform on-orbit service (OOS) missions. Various missions for orbital service include failure repair, refueling, towing, component replacement, and space construction, and in order to do so, a robot arm payload must be mounted. Unlike conventional satellite payloads, the robot arm payload is not move in a fixed state, but is a payload that must move continuously to perform the mission. It is also characterized by the need to perform the mission while being directly exposed to outer space, rather than existing inside the structure of the satellite. Due to the characteristics of these payloads, thermal design and interpretation that can be operated smoothly in an extreme space thermal environment is essential, but there are not many papers on thermal design and interpretation of the robot arm. This paper introduces and summarizes cases of thermal design and interpretation of robot arm payloads developed so far, and finally, it intends to suggest directions for thermal design and interpretation of robot arm payloads to be developed in the future.
Statement of problem: Titanium is well known as a proper metal for the dental restorations, because it has an excellent biocompatibility, resistance to corrosion, and mechanical property. However, adhesion between titanium and dental porcelains is related to the diffusion of oxygen to the reaction layers formed on cast-titanium surfaces during porcelain firing and those oxidized layers make the adhesion difficult to be formed. Many studies using mechanical, chemical and physical methods to enhance the titanium-ceramic adhesion have been actively performed. Purpose: This study meant to comparatively analyse the adhesion characteristics depending on different titanium surface coatings after coating the casts and wrought titanium surfaces with Au and TiN. Material and method: In this study, the titanium specimens (CP-Ti, Grade 2, Kobe still Co. Japan) were categorized into cast and wrought titanium. The wrought titanium was cast by using the MgO-based investment(Selevest CB, Selec). The cast and wrought titanium were treated with Au coating($ParaOne^{(R)}$., Gold Ion Sputter, Model PS-1200) and TiN coating(ATEC system, Korea) and the ultra low fusing dental porcelain was fused and fired onto the samples. Biaxial flection test was done on the fired samples and the porcelain was separated. The adhesion characteristics of porcelain and titanium after firing and the specimen surfaces before and after the porcelain fracture test were observed with SEM. The atomic percent of Si on all sample surfaces was comparatively analysed by EDS. In addition, the constituents of specimen surface layers after the porcelain fracture and the formed compound were evaluated by X-ray diffraction diagnosis. Result: The results of this study were obtained as follows : 1. The surface characteristics of cast and wrought titanium after surface treatment(Au, TiN, $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting) were similar and each cast and wrought titanium showed similar bonding characteristics. 2. Before and after the biaxial flection test, the highest atomic weight change of Si component was found in $Al_2O_3$ sandblasted wrought titanium(28.6at.% $\rightarrow$ 8.3at.%). On the other hand, the least change was seen in Au-Pd-In alloy(24.5at.% $\rightarrow$ 9.1at.%). 3. Much amount of Si components was uniformly distributed in Au and TiN coated titanium, but less amount of Si's was unevenly dispersed on Al2O3 sandblasting surfaces. 4. In X-ray diffraction diagnosis after porcelain debonding, we could see $Au_2Ti$ compound and TiN coating layers on Au and TiN coated surfaces and $TiO_2$, typical oxide of titanium, on all titanium surfaces. 5. Debonding of porcelain on cast and wrought titanium surface after the biaxial flection is considered as a result of adhesion deterioration between coating layers and titanium surfaces. We found that there are both adhesive failure and cohesive failure at the same time. Conclusion: These results showed that the titanium-ceramic adhesion could be improved by coating cast and wrought titanium surfaces with Au and TiN when making porcelain fused to metal crowns. In order to use porcelain fused to titanium clinically, it is considered that coating technique to enhance the bonding strength between coating kKlayers and titanium surfaces should be developed first.
