The purpose of the Gage R&R study is to determine whether a measurement system is adequate for monitoring a process. If the measurement system variation is small relative to the process variation, then the measurement system is deemed "adequate". The sources of variation associated with the measurement system are compared using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) model, in general. A typical ANOVA model used in a standard Gage R&R study is the two-factor random effect model. Then, the ANOVA partitions the total variation into three categories: repeatability, reproducibility, part variation. However, if the process variation possesses the between group variation, within group variation, and within part variation, these variations can cause the measurement system evaluation to provide misleading results. That is, in the standard Gage R&R study these variations affect the estimate of repeatability, reproducibility, or both. This paper presents a four-factor nested factorial ANOVA model which explicitly considers these variations for the Gage R&R study. The variance component estimators are derived by setting the EMS equations equal to the corresponding mean square from the ANOVA table and solving. And the proposed model is compared with the standard Gage R&R model.
There has been a sustained interest towards the non-contact structural displacement measurement by means of videogrammetric technique. On the way forward, one of the major concerns is the spurious image drift induced by temperature variation. This study therefore carries out an investigation into the temperature effect of videogrammetric technique, focusing on the exploration of the mechanism behind the temperature effect and the elimination of the temperature-caused measurement error. 2D videogrammetric measurement tests under monotonic or cyclic temperature variation are first performed. Features of measurement error and the casual relationship between temperature variation and measurement error are then studied. The variation of the temperature of digital camera is identified as the main cause of measurement error. An excellent linear relationship between them is revealed. After that, camera parameters are extracted from the mapping between world coordinates and pixels coordinates of the calibration targets. The coordinates of principle point and focal lengths show variations well correlated with temperature variation. The measurement error is thought to be an outcome mainly attributed to the variation of the coordinates of principle point. An approach for eliminating temperature-caused measurement error is finally proposed. Correlation models between camera parameters and temperature are formulated. Thereby, camera parameters under different temperature conditions can be predicted and the camera projective matrix can be updated accordingly. By reconstructing the world coordinates with the updated camera projective matrix, the temperature-caused measurement error is eliminated. A satisfactory performance has been achieved by the proposed approach in eliminating the temperature-caused measurement error.
Vehicle clutch measurement for disc cushion variation was developed for the production of high quality Dual clutch transmissions. The developed device is composed of load cells for load measurement and LVDT for measuring the distance variation measurement in cushion variation. The servo motor-driven electric press for flexible loads that was developed was controlled by a PC-based HMI system, LabVIEW, and the device was able to continuously record real time measurement data with the accuracies of ${\pm}0.1\;kgf$ load and ${\pm}5{\mu}m$ cushion amount, which is far above the requirements of commercial vehicle standards.

This study examined the measurement conditions of the texture profile analysis (TPA) experiments that are typically used to measure the physical properties of sausage. As the measurement conditions (compression ratio and cross-head speed) were changed, the significant differences between the values of textural parameters (hardness, adhesiveness, springiness, cohesiveness, chewiness) of samples changed. Furthermore, among the measurement conditions, there was more variation in the significant difference between the value of samples due to a change in the compression ratio than due to a change in the cross-head speed. The highest variation in significant difference was observed between the values of cohesiveness of samples due to changes in measurement conditions, whereas the lowest variation in significant difference was observed between the values of springiness of samples due to change in measurement conditions. Therefore, it is desirable to provide a clear basis for setting specific measurement conditions for TPA test, since significant differences in the values of textural parameters of samples were caused by differences in cross-head speed or compression ratio, not by a difference in samples, when analyzing the cohesiveness of sausage, especially.
This study was to apply the measurement variations of each region of the body to the basic bodice pattern grading and to provide the clothing pattern fit for the human body. Grading variation used in the apparel industry was researched and new grading variation was proposed by analyzing the statistical data of body measurements. The statistical variation in body measurements was applied to set the optimum grading region and variation. Five sizes were used by split grading method and drawn with Bust Circumference and waist length based on the middle size. Differences between the grading pattern and the drawing pattern were analyzed by overlapping them and measuring each region. The measurement variations of drawing patterns between the sizes were very different from those of statistical data. On the other hand, the measurement variations of grading patterns between the sizes and those of statistical data were similar. In summary, the grading pattern by applying the measurement variations to the region of the body was superior to the drawing pattern drawn by the basic measurements for clothing fitness.
There can be included a variety of uncertainties in all measurement results whether we can perceive or not on the causes. These uncertainties may end up in lowering the reliability of measurement results and also deteriorate the level of quality. For the purpose, we tried to combine the strengths of measurement uncertainty and measurement system analysis together to present a practical flowchart so as to verify those potential variation factors in general measurement processes. As a case study, we did an experiment and gathered data on the length between two holes of an engine cylinder head which is a core part for vehicles with a coordinate measuring machine and estimated nine uncertainty factors of it. Consequently, it was identified that the four primary factors among the nine which were related to the measurement standard, random errors or spread of the repeat measurements, differences between the coefficients of thermal expansion and the environment especially had been the influence around the laboratory. Since it is impossible to analyze the equipment and appraisal variations respectively through the only measurement uncertainty, we have used the measurement system analysis following the flowchart. Showing the result of being just about 0.5% lower for the appraisal variation, and the equipment variation occupied about 7% for the total Gage R&R. Through this research, we have come to a conclusion that much more detail analysis on variation factors can be possible to be identified in measurement processes by using the developed flowchart which is composed of measurement uncertainty and measurement system analysis. Therefore, we expect engineers who are involved in quality and measurements to utilize this developed method.
Companies strive for quality improvement and use process data obtained through measurement process to monitor and control the process. Measurement data contain variation due to error of operator and instrument. The total variation is sum of product variation and measurement variation. Gage R&R is for repeatability and reproducibility of measurement system. Gage R&R study is usually conducted to analyze the measurement process. In performing the gage R&R study, several parameters such as the appropriate number of operators (o), sample size of parts (p), and replicate (r) are used. In this paper we propose how to determine the optimal combination of number of operators (o), sample size of parts (p), and replicates (r) considering measurement time and cost by statistical method.
In this paper, a two-section method for measuring is introduced and the variation sources of measurement process are analysed. Measuring is a special process in general process. Various variation source must be firstly decomposed so that the statistical distribution law of measuring process can be established, and then implement monitoring control of the measuring process. A special method to obtain the measuring variation is discussed, and a monitoring control technique for measuring process is studied based statistical distribution. Towards the end, we briefly introduce software design for the analysis and control of a measurement process.
Electro-pneumatic valve is an electro-mechanical device which converts electric signal into pneumatic flow mu or pressure. A measurement of dynamic response time is very important to evaluate valve performance. Dynamic response time of electro-pneumatic valve has a variation accordance with valve types, operating way and test standard. In this study, automatic measurement system of dynamic response time is composed based on test condition of dynamic response time test standard(CETOP, JIS). Also, in this study test pressure variation characteristics accordance with variation of solenoid excitation power, and we developed dynamic response measurement system enable to compare of and analyze these two characteristics.
