Producing a Virtual Object with Realistic Motion for a Mixed Reality Space

  • A technique is described for producing a virtual object with realistic motion. A 3-D human motion model is obtained by applying a developed motion capturing technique to a real human in motion. Factorization method is a technique for recovering 3-D shape of a rigid object from a single video image stream without using camera parameters. The technique is extended for recovering 3-D human motions. The proposed system is composed of three fixed cameras which take video images of a human motion. Three obtained image sequences are analyzed to yield measurement matrices at individual sampling times, and they are merged into a single measurement matrix to which the factorization is applied and the 3-D human motion is recovered ...

암 모기 흡혈과정 가시화 (Visualization of blood sucking phenomena of a female mosquito)

  • As a carrier of malaria and sneak of blood, mosquitoes are regarded as an unpleasant insect. However, there are novel phenomena that happen inside a mosquito. Among them, we focused on the blood sucking function of a female mosquito. The main objective of this study was to investigate the mosquito's pumping mechanism in order to resolve the problem encountered when we inject or transport biologic fluids into a micro-chip. To analyze the pumping mechanism, we visualized the blood sucking process inside a female mosquito. Flow characteristics of blood flow in a proboscis were investigated experimentally using a micro-PIV velocity field measurement technique. The anatomical variation of head, thorax, abdomen which work as pumps and valves, was visualized using the syncrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique.

  • High resolution dopant profiling in semiconductor devices has been an intense research topic because of its practical importance in semiconductor industry. Although several techniques have already been developed. it still requires very expensive tools to achieve nanometer scale resolution. In this study we demonstrated a novel dopant profiling technique with nanometer resolution using very simple setup. The newly developed technique measures the thermoelectric voltage generated in the contact point of the SPM probe tip and MOSFET surface instead of electrical signals widely adopted in previous techniques like Scanning Capacitance Microscopy. The spatial resolution of our measurement technique is limited by the size of contact size between SPM probe tip and MOSFET surface and is estimated to be about 10 nm in this experiment.

  • The objective of this paper is to suggest an experimental technique to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of a coupled plate. In order to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of the plate, the frequency response technique has been implemented. In this technique, the 2-D intensity vector at a measurement point has been estimate from the frequency response functions measured at 4 points in the neighborhood of the measurement point. The experimental result has been compared with a theoretical result. It showed that the experimental technique can be effectively used to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of plates.

  • This paper deals with the vibration deflection shape measurement technique for a sinusoidally excited structure using a continuously scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (CSLV). The CSLV output signal is an amplitude-modulated vibration in which the excitation signal is modulated by the deflection shapes, and thus the deflection shapes of vibration defined along a scan line can be derived by the envelop and the phase information of the CSLV output signal. In this work, a Hilbert transform based approach has been proposed for measurement of deflection shapes. This technique is as simple as the demodulation technique and allows more convenient experimental settings than the Fourier transform approach. The feasibility of the proposed technique is illustrated along with results of experiment.

  • The measurement method of electrical conductivity of the metal use a generally DC technique. Traceability to national standards in many countries is achieved using DC measurement technique and recently it's interested in AC technique. As a results for AC technique, the properties of electrical conductivity of non-ferrous and ferrous metals is decreasing at low frequency level.

  • The high-frequency force-balance (HFFB) technique and its subsequent improvements are reviewed in this paper, including a discussion about nonlinear mode shape corrections, multi-force balance measurements, and using HFFB model to identify aeroelastic parameters. To apply the HFFB technique in engineering practice, various validation studies have been conducted. This paper presents the results from an analytical validation study for a simple building with nonlinear mode shapes, three experimental validation studies for more complicated buildings, and a field measurement comparison for a super-tall building in Hong Kong. The results of these validations confirm that the improved HFFB technique is generally adequate for engineering applications. Some technical limitations of HFFB are also discussed in this paper, especially for higher-order mode response that could be considerable for super tall buildings.

  • The measurement of 3D surface strain using the image processing method is another approach for strain measurement. The advantage of this method is that strains at several points included in a captured image can be obtained automatically from only one process. In this study, the whole process of automated surface strain measurement is presented. The strain distribution on a LDH specimen is illustrated as a result of the trial to develope an automated strain measurement system.

  • Several test methods, including micro strain/deformation measurement techniques, have been studied to more reliably measure the micro properties in micro/nano materials. Therefore, in this study, the continuous measurement of in-plane tensile strain in micro-sized specimens of thin film materials was introduced using the micro-ESPI technique. TiN and Au thin films 1 and $0.47\;\mu{m}$ thick, respectively, were deposited on the silicon wafer and fabricated into the micro-sized tensile specimens using the electromachining process. The micro-tensile loading system and micro-ESPI system were developed to measure the tensile strain during micro-tensile test. The micro-tensile stress-strain for these materials was determined using the algorithm for continuous strain measurement. Furthermore, algorithm for enhancing the sensitivity to measurement of in-plane tensile strain was suggested. According to the algorithm for enhancement of sensitivity, micro-tensile strain data between interfringe were calculated. It is shown that the algorithm for enhancement of the sensitivity suggested in this study makes the sensitivity to the in-plane tensile strain increase.

  • The surface intensity method is a relatively new tool which can identify the noise source or path and measure the radiation power. One microphone and one accelerometer are used in this new technique. In this study, this new technique has been used to measure the field transmission loss trough doors. The results of the experiment indicate that the surface intensity method produces reliable data and can be applied to the transmission loss measurement.
