In order to quantify the anisotropic properties of rock included joints and shear behavior in joint surface, the mold is Produced for rock joint surface using gypsum Plaster and Peformed for replicated joint models made of cement mortar. Rock sample is measured using mechanical profilometer before testing and their result is expressed quantitatively. The statistical parameters and the fractal dimension by fractal theory for roughness is investigated its coordinate value for numerical process. The shear strength to the shear displacement in low level normal stress ismaintained or increased in most joint models. Their results present that this relationship is depended several roughness properties in joint model for natural rock joint. The relationship between the shear strength and the Properties for profiles estimated by some statistical parameter in roughness has the low correlation and is not constant. The result between the data for direct shear test and using Barton's equation, Barton's equation has not the effectiveness for the effect of anisotropy and has not suitable to recognizing the properties for joint surface. It means that JRC has not the properties of anisotropic rock surface. The fractal dimension is well correlated with the data of direct shear test than those of JRC. New experimental formulae using fractal dimension is comported with the anisotropic properties for direct shear test.
There are many landslides occurred by typhoons and intense rainfall during the summer seasons in Korea. To predict a landslide triggering it is important to understand mechanisms and potential areas of landslides by the geological approaches. However, recent climate changes make difficult to predict landslide based on only conventional prediction methods. Therefore, the importance of a real-time monitoring of landslide using various sensors is emphasized in recent. Many researchers have studied monitoring techniques of landslides and suggested several monitoring systems which can be applicable to the natural terrain. Most sensors of landslide monitoring measure slope displacement, hydrogeologic properties of soils and rocks, changes of stress in soil and rock fractures, and rainfall amount and intensity. The measured values of each sensor are transmitted to a monitoring server in real-time. The ultimate goal of landslide monitoring is to warn landslide occurrence in advance and to reduce damages induced by landslides. This study introduces the current situation of landslide monitoring techniques in each country.

Anions such as C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, P $O_4$$^{3-}$, and organic anions, that do not become a part of the clay mineral crystal lattice, are of considerable interest in soils which are a potential sink caused by acid rain. In this paper, elution of native sulfate and breakthrough curves (BTC) were obtained from miscible displacement of non-specifically or specifically adsorbed anions through non-saturated or saturated Bt soil of Chungwon series. The shape and position of the BTC's could be affected by adsoprtion and ion exchange onto the soil particle surfaces. Measured BTC's for oxalic acid under unsaturated and saturated conditions showed that less pore volumes were required to displace the native S $O_4$$^{2-}$S from the soil column, and that maximum detection limit of oxalic acid reached earlier than under unsaturated. The retarded BTC's to the righthand side could be attributed by different adsorption behavior of each anion, although BTC's may be influenced by the smaller order of velocity change. The alternate breakthrough and elution curves show the rapid approach to the maximum detection limit of C/Co = 1, compared to progressive tailing of elution curve to reach to C/Co = 0. The probable explanation for asymmetric elution patterns for both anion is that the anion was selectively adsorbed on the positively charged soil surface from the solution passing in the soil column. On the other hand, the variations of pH in effluent showed that pH was increased to 7 in the first 6 pore volume and then gradually decreased to pH 4.

In this study, a running performance evaluation and roller rig test was conducted to evaluate the applicability of a composite bogie frame, which has the role of the primary suspension. The composite bogie frame was made of a GEP224 glass/epoxy prepreg. Vehicle dynamic analysis was carried out on the composite bogie with three different kinds of side beam thicknesses (50 mm, 80 mm, and 150 mm). From the results, the composite bogie with a side beam thickness of 80 mm satisfied all the dynamic design requirements. Although the composite bogie with the side beam thickness of 50mm also met the design requirements, its critical speed was just a 2% margin to the requirement. In contrast, the model of the side beam thickness of 150mm did not meet the ride comfort. In addition, a composite bogie frame with the side beam thickness of 80 mm was fabricated and installed on a complete bogie. Moreover, the roller rig test using the fully equipped bogie was performed to evaluate the critical speed. During the test, the lateral excitation was imposed on the wheelsets to realize the rail irregularity. There was no divergence of the lateral displacement of the wheelsets while increasing the speed. The measured critical speed was similar to the predicted result.

To analyze the deformation and failure of slopes, generally, two types of model, Polynomial model and Growth model, are applied. These two models are focused on the behavior of the slope by time. Therefore, this research is more focused on predicting of slope failure than analyzing the slope behavior by time. Generally, Growth model is used to analyze the soil slope, to the contrary, Polynomial model is used for rock slope. However, 3-degree polynomial($y=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d$) is suggested to combine two models in this research. The main trait of this model is having an asymptote. The fields to adopt this model are Gosujae Danyang(soil slope) and Youngduk slope(rock slope), which are the cut-slope near national road. Data from Gosujae are shown the failure traits of soil slope, to the contrary, those of Youngduk slope are shown the traits of rock slope. From the real-time monitoring data of the slope, 3-degree polynomial is proved as excellent system to analyze the failure and behavior of slope. In case of Polynomial model, even if the order of polynomials is increased, the $R^2$ value and shape of the curve-fitted graph is almost the same.

Field experiments as well as numerical analyses with finite element analysis codes are two valuable and complemental ways to understand the structural response under explosive blast load. However, there seems to be only limited information available about finite element analysis and experimental validation on the response of structural components under internal explosions. For complementary use of the two ways, the numerical analyses should be validated with field experiments by comparing their results. In this paper, a small-scaled reinforced concrete building with a room is employed for experimental investigations. An amount of TNT is detonated at the center of the room. Pressure at three different sites in the room, displacement of centers of two walls, and damage patterns of four walls are measured and compared to results from numerical analyses. The experimental results are much similar to the numerical analyses results. The finite element analysis code ANSYS AUTODYN is employed to numerically analyze both pressure distribution inside the room and response of walls subjected to blast pressure. The feasibility and validity of the numerical analysis on the reponses of structural components under internal explosions are discussed in terms of structural damage assessment, and evaluated as the same damage in the analysis and the experiments.
For the development of areas around railway lines, subsurface construction using the non-open cut method under the railway has recently been increased. However, when a structure under a railway is constructed, the stress release of the ground is not considered an important factor in the design. In this study, laboratory tests were conducted to determine a zone of stress relaxation. Field tests using an inclinometer were performed to measure the horizontal displacement of the ground during non-open cut construction. The stress release zone and the subgrade stiffness were investigated by numerical analysis. The results of the laboratory tests indicated that the failure zone in the ground was similar to a Rankine's active earth pressure zone. The measured data from the inclinometer in the field tests showed that displacements started when a steel pipe was pushed into the ground. The results of numerical analysis show that lateral earth pressure was also close to Rankine's active earth pressure. The roadbed support stiffness of the soil around the structure decreased to 40% of the original value. The ground around the subsurface structure constructed using nonopen cut methods should be reinforced to maintain the running stability of train.

Due to the concentration of population in the city center, the aboveground structures are saturated, and the development of underground structures becomes important. In addition, it is necessary to apply the reinforcement construction method for the pillar part of the adjacent tunnel that can secure stability, economy, and workability to the site. In this study, the tunnel pillar reinforcement method using prestress and grouting was reviewed. There are various reinforcement methods that can compensate for the problems of the side tunnel, but as the tunnel pillar construction method using prestress and grouting is judged to be excellent in field applicability, stability, and economic feasibility, it is necessary to review the theoretical and numerical analysis of the actual behavior mechanism. Therefore, a scaled-down model experiment was conducted. The reduced model experiment was divided into PC stranded wire + steel pipe reinforcement grouting + prestress (Case 1), PC strand + steel pipe reinforcement grouting (Case 2), and no reinforcement (Case 3), and the displacement of the pillar and the earth pressure applied to the wall were measured. Through experiments, it was confirmed that the PC stranded wire + steel pipe reinforcement grouting + prestress method is the most excellent reinforcement method among various construction methods. It was judged that it could be derived.

Study Design: Retrospective study. Purpose: Lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration is an important cause of low back pain. Overview of Literature: Spinal fusion is often reported to have a good course for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). However, many studies have reported that adjacent segment degeneration is accelerated after lumbar spinal fusion. Radiography is a simple method used to evaluate the orientation of the vertebral column. magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the method most often used to specifically evaluate intervertebral disc degeneration. The Pfirrmann classification is a well-known method used to evaluate degenerative lumbar disease. After spinal fusion, an increase in stress, excess mobility, increased intra-disc pressure, and posterior displacement of the axis of motion have been observed in the adjacent segments. Methods: we retrospectively secured and analyzed the data of 15 patients (four boys and 11 girls) with AIS who underwent a spinal fusion surgery. We studied the full-length view of the spine (anterior-posterior and lateral) from the X-ray and MRI obtained from all patients before surgery. Postoperatively, another full-length spine X-ray and lumbosacral MRI were obtained from all participants. Then, pelvic tilt, sacral slope, curve correction, and fused and free segments before and after surgery were calculated based on X-ray studies. MRI images were used to estimate the degree to which intervertebral discs were degenerated using Pfirrmann grading system. Pfirrmann grade before and after surgery were compared with Wilcoxon signed rank test. While analyzing the contribution of potential risk factors for the post-spinal fusion Pfirrmann grade of disc degeneration, we used generalized linear models with robust standard error estimates to account for intraclass correlation that may have been present between discs of the same patient. Results: The mean age of the participant was 14 years, and the mean curvature before and after surgery were 67.8 and 23.8, respectively (p<0.05). During the median follow-up of 5 years, the mean degree of the disc degeneration significantly increased in all patients after surgery (p<0.05) with a Pfirrmann grade of 1 and 2.8 in the L2-L3 before and after surgery, respectively. The corresponding figures at L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 levels were 1.28 and 2.43, 1.07 and 2.35, and 1 and 2.33, respectively. The lower was the number of free discs below the fusion level, the higher was the Pfirrmann grade of degeneration (p<0.001). Conversely, the higher was the number of the discs fused together, the higher was the Pfirrmann grade. Conclusions: we observed that the disc degeneration aggravated after spinal fusion for scoliosis. While the degree of degeneration as measured by Pfirrmann grade was directly correlated by the number of fused segments, it was negatively correlated with the number of discs that remained free below the lowermost level of the fusion.

Road surface measurement is an essential process for quantifying the degree and displacement of roughness in road surface management. For safer road surface management and quick maintenance, it is important to accurately measure the road surface while mounted on a vehicle. In this paper, we propose a sophisticated road surface measurement system that can be measured on a moving vehicle. The proposed road surface measurement system supports more accurate measurement of the road surface by using a high-performance line laser sensor. It is also possible to measure the transverse and longitudinal profile by matching the position information acquired from the RTK, and the velocity adaptive update algorithm allows a manager to monitor in a real-time manner. In order to evaluate the proposed system, the Gocator laser sensor, MRP module, and NVIDIA Xavier processor were mounted on a test mobile and tested on the road surface. Our evaluation results demonstrate that our system measures accurate profile base on the MSE. Our proposed system can be used not only for evaluating the condition of roads but also for evaluating the impact of adjacent excavation.
