  • Recently a new type of educational method through the internet, distance education, has been developed with technology development. To find out any complement between distance education and traditional in-class education, a series of study with junior high school mathematics were conducted. Both distance education and in-class education have merits and shortcomings. Some advantages with distance education shown from the study can be used for complement to in-class education depending on the contents and subjects. Distance education in mathematics education can be a good turning point for future education.

  • This research is aimed to analyze the causes of junior high school students' problems that was showed in a poor way at learning mathematics. So this is for the purpose of providing the basic data for searching for a means of teaching-learning to understand stagnant students. 5 male junior high students in teaming-stagnation were targets of this research, and we used two kinds of questionnaire in the field to find out the causes of learning-stagnation. We searched these students for the causes from a different standpoint of learning habits and self-possessed manners in mathematics.

  • The situation of unification has been changing in the rapid speed. In this condion it is most important that we understand North Korea's current situation correctly, by overcoming the differences between South and North Korea and trying to pursuit the national homogeneity. One of the most effective ways to understand North Korea is to understand their education. So, I wrote this thesis as a way of getting ready for the united Korea by konwing mathematics texts and their system, composition, contents of junior high school in North Korea Anyway, I hope that this study will be helpful to the integration of mathematics education after unification of North and South

  • This study aims to investigate the presence/absence of subjects in the area of finance insurance sector in the past and corresponding areas of the courses in accordance with the reform of Korean school mathematics curriculum. In addition, the study had analyzed the linkage to the curriculum of the subjects for the Junior High, and High School in accordance with the school mathematics as mathematical knowledge base. As the results of this study, it was identified that the knowledge of mathematical contents addressed in the school mathematics education had a very high connectivity as basic mathematical knowledge to understand and utilize high level of the insurance mathematics required for the job performance in the finance insurance sector.

  • There is a difference in quality between transition from elementary school to junior high school and the simple change of grades. This time is also a critical time that many students would be to abandon the mathematics. According to experience in conjunction with mathematics, this timing can be either bright or dark outlook with relation to mathematical development. Thus, at this turning point, it is necessary to analyze what changes the students are experiencing in teaching and learning mathematics, what such changes effect the students, whether or not there is room for improving such changes etc. Therefore, in this study, by comparing and analyzing math lessons of 6th grade in elementary school and 1st grade in junior high school, we investigate the difficulties of teaching and learning mathematics experienced by students who have been placed in the turning point and suggest implications to help them to land softly into junior high school.

  • Through this study, we aimed to capture the nature of a mathematics method course, called "the Curriculum Development and Teaching Methods in Mathematics Education" which is a pedagogy course for teaching for secondary school mathematics taught at a university located in a south eastern part of South Korea. The research participants include three junior students who took the methods course and a local high school math teacher with two professors. The research has three parts. First, we designed a method course to prepare the junior or senior students for a teaching practicum. The individual students gave a mini lecture about a secondary mathematical topic as a course requirement. Second, the three students watched a classroom video-clip of the high school teacher and analyzed his instruction before the actual classroom visits. Furthermore, by "Let's Learn" program for students, the course was associated with a local community through the students and so that they could visit the teacher's classroom three times to observe his math classroom teaching. The students discussed the difference between their own mini lectures and the actual math classroom teaching to develop an understanding of what it entails to teach an actual math class. Third, the first author supervised the students' activities in the program including their report for it to bring out their findings to the class of the method course. We found out this method course provided the students with the experience of various aspects of actual math lesson as well as learning theories about the pedagogy for teaching for secondary school mathematics. We conclude that this course gives a model for the method course in mathematics education for secondary school mathematics.

  • A research group consisting of some mathematics education scholars and school teachers has been formed to build a website which intended to combine both theories and practices of mathematical teaching since 2002. There were three working stages: video-tapping realistic math teaching, developing video discs of different themes, and designing e-Learning. The group members learned knowledge of teaching by actual participating. On the other hand, the products enabled the audience to get professional development in knowledge of both mathematics and teaching. Management process of this group and effects upon the participants and users will be presented and discussed in this paper. • Many high school students are having difficulties for studying advanced mathematics concepts. It is more complicated than in junior high school and they are losing interest and confidence. In this paper, advanced mathematics concepts are not just basic concepts such as natural numbers, fractions or figures that can be learned through life experience but concepts that are including variables, functions, sets, tangents and limits are more abstract and formal. For the students to understand these ideas is too heavy a burden and so many of the students concentrate their efforts on just memorizing and not understanding. It is necessary to search for a meaningful method of teaching for advanced mathematics that covers deductive methods and symbols. High school teachers are always asking themselves the following question, “How do we help the students to understand the concept clearly and instruct it in a meaningful way?” As a solution we propose the followings : I. To ensure they have the right understanding of concept image involved in the concept definition. II. Put emphasis on the process of making mental representations and the role of intuition. III. To instruct students and understand them as having many chance of the instructional conversation. In conclusion, we studied the meaningful method of teaching with the theory of Ausubel related to the above proposed methods. To understand advanced mathematics concepts correctly, the mutual understanding of both teachers and students is necessary.
