  • In this paper, we will introduce the image processing methods for the remote pupillary light reflex measurement using the video taken by a general smartphone camera without a special device such as an infrared camera. We propose an algorithm for estimate the size of the pupil that changes with light using image data analysis without a learning process. In addition, we will introduce the results of visualizing the change in the pupil size by removing noise from the recorded data of the pupil size measured for each frame of the video. We expect that this study will contribute to the construction of an objective indicator for remote pupillary light reflex measurement in the situation where non-face-to-face communication has become common due to COVID-19 and the demand for remote diagnosis is increasing.

  • Fingerprint authentication identifies a user based on the individual's unique fingerprint features. Fingerprint authentication methods are used in various real-life devices because they are convenient and safe and there is no risk of leakage, loss, or oblivion. However, fingerprint authentication methods are often ineffective when there is contamination of the given image through wet, dirty, dry, or wounded fingers. In this paper, a method is proposed to remove noise from fingerprint images using a convolutional neural network. The proposed model was verified using the dataset from the ChaLearn LAP Inpainting Competition Track 3-Fingerprint Denoising and Inpainting, ECCV 2018. It was demonstrated that the model proposed in this paper obtains better results with respect to the methods that achieved high performances in the competition.

  • Most of calculus and real analysis are concerned with the study on continuous functions. Because of self-sustaining concept caused by everyday language, continuity has difficulties. This kind of viewpoint is strengthened with that teacher explains continuity by graph drawn ceaselessly and so finally confused with mathematics concept which is continuity and connection. Thus such a concept image of continuity becomes to include components which create conflicts. Therefore, we try to analyze understanding of continuity on university students by using the concept image as an analytic tool. We survey centering on problems which create conflicts with concept definition and image. And we investigate that difference of definition in continuous function which handles in calculus and analysis exists and so try to present various results on university students' understanding of continuity concept.

  • This paper reports several mathematical properties of the filter vector developed for processing linearly-additive spatially-invariant image sequences. In this filtering of an image sequence into a single filtered image, the information about the image components originally distributed over the entire sequence is compressed into the one new image in a way that the desired component is enhanced and the undesired (interfering) components and noise are suppressed.

  • In this paper, we present spiral pattern which suits for optical simulator to calibrate fisheye lens and compensate geometric distortion. Using spiral pattern, we present calibration without mathematical modeling in advance. Proposed spiral pattern used to input image of optical simulator. Using fisheye lens image, we calibrate a fisheye lens by matching geometrically moved dots to corresponding original dots which leads not to need mathematical modeling. Proposed algorithm calibrates using dot matching which matches spiral pattern image dot to distorted image dot. And this algorithm does not need modeling in advance so it is effective. Proposed algorithm is enabled at processing of pattern recognition which has to get the exact information using fisheye lens for digital zooming. And this makes possible at compensation of geometric distortion and calibration of fisheye lens image applying in various image processing.

  • In this paper, we define generalized quasi-preclosed sets and gqp-closed functions and obtain some new characterizations of quasi P-normal spaces and quasi P-regular spaces due to Tapi et al. [9,11]. It is shown that the pairwise continuous pre gqp-closed (resp. pairwise preopen pre gqp-closed) surjective image of quasi P-normal (resp. quasi P-regular) space is quasi P-normal (resp. quasi P-regular).

  • As high resolution satellite images can be used, numerous studies have been carried out for exploiting these images in various fields. This paper proposes horse hoof shaped object detection method based on mathematical morphology to extract interesting targets. Interesting targets have conceptually similar shapes such as a horse hoof, not having exact size or shape. Detection of an object with the similar shapes is possible by applying mathematical morphology processes. The proposed method allows an automatic object detection system to detect the meaningful object in a large satellite image rapidly. The mathematical morphology process can be applied to binary images, and thus this method is very simple. Therefore, this method can easily extract a "horse hoof shaped object" from any image that has indistinct edges of the interesting object and different image qualities depending on the filming location, filming time, and filming environment. Using the proposed method by which a "horse hoof shaped object" can be rapidly extracted, the performance of the automatic object detection system can be improved.

  • An adaptive fuzzy system can efficiently classify subimages into four categories according to image activity level for image data compression. The system estimates fuzzy rules by clustering input-output data generated from a given adaptive transform image coding process. The system encodes different images without modification and reduces side information when encoding multiple images. In the second part, a fuzzy system estimates optimal bit maps for the four subimage classes in noisy channels assuming a Gauss-Markov image model. The fuzzy systems respectively estimate the sampled subimage classification and the bit-allocation processes without a mathematical model of how outputs depend on inputs and without rules articulated by experts.

  • The study on Shilla monumental inscription has beer accomplished by many historians. However, the research on enhancement of monumental inscription image using digital image processing technique is not sufficient. The preprocessing using computer is needed fur accurate interpretation of history. In this paper, digital image enhancement algorithm based on mathematical morphology for noise reduction and character clearness is proposed. In the experiment, the subjective image quality is improved using the proposed algorithm.
