  • In this study, 'Instruments of the achievement attribution in mathematical learning' was develop to investigate the reasons of mathematical learning achievement by reflecting Korean middle school and high school students' psychological characters and learning context in mathematical learning. To develop the appropriate items for the achievement attribution in mathematical learning, after reviewing attribution literature thoroughly, first version of the instrument was developed and Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were conducted. Then, to reduce the effect of the gender difference and achievement level difference, Differential Item Functioning was performed. Also, using Multiple group Confirmatory Factor Analysis, this instrument was investigated to see whether this can be used for both middle school and high school. The final items for success attribution are 3 items for luck, 3 items for effort, 2 items for ability. The failure attribution were composed of 3 items for luck, 3 items for effort, 2 items for ability, and 2 items for other. The instrument was developed by using large samples and psychometric analysis. Therefore, mathematic teachers can use this instrument efficiently to make a foundation for better learning environment so students' cognitive area and affective area can be harmonized.

  • Using the Bumping algorithm for the shifted rim hook tableaux described in [5], we construct Schensted insertion and deletion algorithms for shifted rim hook tableaux. This may give us the combinatorial proof for the orthogonality of the second kind of the spin characters of $S_n$.

  • In this paper, we use the notion of characters of transformations provided in [8] by Purisang and Rakbud to define a notion of weak regularity of transformations on an arbitrarily fixed set X. The regularity of a semigroup of weakly regular transformations on a set X is also investigated.

  • Mathematical creativity is essential in school mathematics and mathematics curriculum and ensures the growth of mathematical ability. Therefore mathematics educators try to develop students' creativity via mathematics education for a long time. In special, 2011 revised mathematics curriculum emphasizes mathematical creativity. Yet, it may seem like a vague characterization of mathematical creativity. Furthermore, it is needed to develop the methods for developing the mathematical creativity. So, the goal of this paper is to search for teaching and learning models for developing the mathematical creativity. For this, I discuss about issues of mathematical creativity and extract the factors of mathematical creativity. The factors of mathematical creativity are divided into cognitive factors, affective factors and attitude factors that become the factors of development of mathematical creativity in the mathematical instruction. And I develop 8-teaching and learning models for development of mathematical creativity based on the characters of mathematics and the most recent theories of mathematics education. These models make it crucial for students to develop the mathematical creativity and create the new mathematics in the future.

  • Most of mathematical terms in Korean are Sino-Korean words. It is necessary to find the efficient ways to teach Sino-Korean mathematical terms to mathematics teachers and students who dot not know Chinese characters well and use only Korean alphabet in mathematics. Especially, we have to avoid the inappropriate Sino-Korean words which can cause misconceptions and can distinguish homophones by Korean alphabet. We may use native Korean terms to do that and the national curriculum can play an important role. In this paper, we investigate the way of improving mathematics terms in Korea with concrete examples.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to search the situation of an outbreak of the fallacy and methods of its treatment. We regard intuition as origins of genuine knowledge, but it sometimes raises the fallacy by intrinsic characters of itself. It makes an examination of the fallacy of the sense of sight like an optical illusion to instance that of sense. The sense of sight is an important factor in an intuitive cognition. However, its activity without thinking raises the fallacy of intuition in the process to observe and judge the things. I point out the fallacy of intuition which originates from terms and concepts in mathematical problems. The concept of mean velocity is representative. In this case, students make a mistake which means velocity can be solved by dividing the sum of v$_1$ and v$_2$ into two. The methods which overcome the fallacy of intuition are balance of intuition and logic, overcome of functional fixedness, the development of intuitive models and the development of metacognitive ability.

  • In this research, we study the problem of font image skeletonization using an end-to-end deep adversarial network, in contrast with the state-of-the-art methods that use mathematical algorithms. Several studies have been concerned with skeletonization, but a few have utilized deep learning. Further, no study has considered generative models based on deep neural networks for font character skeletonization, which are more delicate than natural objects. In this work, we take a step closer to producing realistic synthesized skeletons of font characters. We consider using an end-to-end deep adversarial network, SkelGAN, for font-image skeletonization, in contrast with the state-of-the-art methods that use mathematical algorithms. The proposed skeleton generator is proved superior to all well-known mathematical skeletonization methods in terms of character structure, including delicate strokes, serifs, and even special styles. Experimental results also demonstrate the dominance of our method against the state-of-the-art supervised image-to-image translation method in font character skeletonization task.

  • The picture of the mathematics curriculum should carry the complex role of relieving the difficulties of mathematics while conveying the core of the mathematics contents well. This study examined the precedence of picture and text harmony and the importance of emotional expression. The discussion of children's picture books became an important reference in this process. The understanding of the child's psychology and cognitive characteristics in the long history of picture books and the insight into the relationship between text and pictures will be important guidelines for elementary school textbooks. Based on these previous studies, this study found some impressive examples of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and American textbooks on the two complementary relationships between paintings and texts and emotional expressions of paintings. If necessary, we compared these textbooks with Korean textbooks. Through this analysis, this study draws some implications for Korean textbook drawing and textbook production process. That is, the process of reading the picture and interpreting its meaning should be treated as part of the study of mathematics. The mathematical concepts to be dealt with or the sentence description of the problem should be concurrent with the design of the picture. The monotonous expressions and dialogues of characters in textbooks should be avoided, and the personality and emotions of characters should be more abundant and freely expressive.

  • This paper presents an algorithm to separate vowels from consonants in Korean characters captured in noisy environment andto recognize them. The algorithm has been originally developed for recognition of the usage code (which is represented by a single Korean character) in the license plates of Korean vehicles. It, however, could be easily adopted to other applications with minor changes, in which character recognition is needed and the environment is noisy. The key ideas of the algorithm are to localize the vowels utilizing Hough transformation and to separate the vowels from consonants utilizing mathematical morphology. We observed that the presented algorithm effectively separates vowels even if the vowels and consonants are joined together after thresholding. We also observed that our algorithm outperforms some conventional algorithms especially when the input images are noisy. The details of the comparison study are presented in the paper.

  • The book Su Hak Ip Mun(數學入門, Introduction to Mathematics) is one part of 5 sections of the book Seung Aeh Ill Chan(升厓日簒), which is a hand written manuscript in Chinese characters and the author and the date of writing is unknown. The book Seung Aeh Ill Chan begins with the song of division table so called Guguiga(九歸歌). We first investigate and compare the writing pattern of this with other old Korean mathematical books. Next, we investigate typical expression and calculation methods of mathematical contents and terminologies used in Su Hak Ip Mun and also figure out oddities of writing pattern of mathematical expression and cultural circumference of several problems dealt in the book. From these analysis and investigation, we estimate the writing date of Su Hak Ip Mun later than the year 1723 on which Su Ri Jeong On(數理精蘊) was first published. And we presumably guess that Guguiga and Su Hak Ip Mun are made not for practical use or theoretical purpose but for text to teach students.
