This is the study on a teaching method for improving problem-solving ability in mathematics. If this method is performed step by step in solving problems, learners can approach problems in a variety of ways. This step-by-step teaching method will create some changes among learners. The purpose of this experiment was to determine what effects resulted from this method, especially which effects arose in the affective areas of learning math. For the experiment, learning materials were divided into 73 parts. And the subjects, who are low-leveled and have negative attitudes towards mathematics, were divided into two groups. One group was exposed to this method for four months (treatment group), and the other group(control group) was not. According to the result, though there were few changes, the treatment group came to be more interested in math than before and also negative attitudes towards math were reduced gradually, as compared with the control group. In this study, three factors were investigated: interest in math, attitudes toward math, and learning -achievement in math. Significant changes were found in two factors: interest in math and learning-achievement in math. No significant changes were found in the area of attitudes towards math. In conclusion, if this method is adopted and performed regularly, it is likely that the problem-solving skills will be improved and the negative attitudes towards math will be reduced.
The purpose of this study is to find out if there are meaningful differences between small rural middle schools and nearby urban ones In the mathematical diagnostic evaluation. It also says how to improve students' scholastic abilities, making up a question of attitudes towards math to know the mathematical abilities lowering cause in small rural middle schools. Findings are, 1. Students must recognize that studying math is essential and be interested in it. 2. The mathematical confidence is needed. 3. A strong will of studying math hard is important. 4. Students must have a motivational triggering, while solving math problems and then checking answers for themselves. 5. Backward countries' humanistic and social environmental factors should be overcome. In conclusion, we expect the mathematical abilities improvement, making students remove the mathematical abilities lowering cause after having a learning experience suitable for the rural community instead of the negative attitudes towards math.
The constituents of math learning styles are information recognition and information processing in the cognitive domain and attitudes toward math learning and environments of math learning in the affective domain. Each of the constituents has two opposing styles; there are the visual style and verbal style in information recognition; and there are the whole style and analytical style in information processing. And as for attitudes toward math learning, there are two styles which are the authoritative and goal-oriented style and the practical and entertaining style. Also as for attitudes toward environments of math learning, there are two styles which are the interior-oriented style and exterior-oriented style. There can be classified into 16 types of mathematics learning by the combination of a total of 8 styles of mathematics learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of the students from three middle schools located in Daegu Metropolitan City to the styles and types of mathematics learning.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of discourse-based math instructions on the students' mathematical attitudes and learning achievements by providing fifth graders with an opportunity to take active part in learning during math classes and applying discourse-based math instructions, which are to expand the speaking experiences as the most fundamental way to express ideas in communication. Those research efforts led to the following results: First, the discourse-based math instructions turned out to have positive influences on flexibility, will power, curiosity, reflection, and value of mathematical attitudes. When the results were reviewed before and after the instructions without considering the subvariables of attitude, there were statistically significant differences(p<0.01), which indicates that the discourse-based math instructions exerted very positive effects on the students mathematical attitudes. Second, there were no statistically significant effects in learning achievements between the experimental and comparative group, but the experimental group, which recorded low mean scores in the pre-test, increased their mean scores by 3.81 points in the post-test, which suggests that the discourse-based math instructions had positive influences on them. Third, the subjects' responses on the questionnaire on discourse-based instructions reveal that the discourse-based math instructional provided them with an opportunity to explore solutions in various ways. In short, discourse-based math instructions have positive influences on mathematical attitudes and are effective in increasing communication ability.
The necessity of this study was to improve academic achievement and math attitudes through leveled reciprocal peer learning, and the specific purpose was as follows. First, each unit seeks to select learning methods and contents for each level of class for reciprocal peer learning, second, develop activity sites for each level through curriculum analysis, and third, improve academic achievement and math attitudes through classes that apply reciprocal peer learning activities. The study was conducted on 60 second graders of 00 High School in 00 Metropolitan City. Two classes were selected for the midterm exam results for the first semester of the second grade. Class 1 was divided into the experimental group and the other class 1 was divided into the comparative group, and 13 classes were conducted for about 2 months from May 1 to July 4, 2020. The experimental group (30 students) was a class that applied leveled reciprocal peer learning activities, and the comparative group (30 students) was a class that was taught based on traditional textbooks. As a result of this study, first, in this study, it was possible to improve academic achievement and math attitudes by setting learning contents for each unit and applying reciprocal peer learning activities for each level. Second, the experimental group taught by applying leveled reciprocal peer learning activities was effective in academic achievement and math attitudes compared to the comparative group taught based on traditional textbooks to students in the upper, middle, and lower groups. Third, in the class applying leveled reciprocal peer learning activities, low-level students who were neglected in math classes were also interested in the class and actively participated in it, showing improvement.
The purpose of the study was to develop project based math learning using future prospective jobs to find out its effects on elementary school student's attitude toward mathematics and career awareness. Also, this study aims at implementation of this project based math learning program in school math education. The project based math learning using future prospective jobs was conducted through 19 lessons for 7 weeks. As a result, the project based math learning using prospective jobs is turned out to be effective on developing attitudes on mathematics and career awareness positively.
The benefits of teaching learning materials to others have been shown on learning achievement. Anxiety is one of the obstacles in learning and it has been shown that math anxiety is strongly associated with math achievement. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether teaching others benefits math anxiety when university students learn statistics. 59 students who enrolled in statistics class participated and 30 students performed group assignment of teaching peer in a group and 29 students did not. Other than group assignments, the instructor, lectures, assignment of solving the problems, and exams were all the same. The results showed that the math anxiety of students who did group assignments of teaching was decreased at the end the semester. Increased math anxiety yielded negative attitudes toward learning statistics, resulting in poor learning performance. Furthermore, the relationship between math anxiety and the attitudes toward leaning statistics was moderated by teaching others. The results suggest that teaching others has an effect on reducing math anxiety and thus, possibly yield persistent learning gains.
This study examined the structural relationships among parental attitudes and expectations toward mathematics, mathematics motivation and achievement of their child in PISA 2012 of South Korea. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling(SEM) analysis. The results were as follows: First, parental attitudes toward mathematics had positive effects on parent academic and professional expectations in mathematics. Second, parental expectations also had positive effects on intrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation and math achievement for their child. Third, instrumental motivation had strongest effects on math achievement. The next factors which had effects on math achievement were intrinsic motivation and parental expectations in order. This results shows that the parental awareness of the usefulness and necessity of mathematics will help to increase the interest and value toward mathematics, math achievement and interest of math related carriers of their child.
In this paper, we surveyed the attitudes of engineering students in 6 universities in Chungcheong area to mathematics by 5-scale degrees and performed a comparative analysis of the results. The results revealed a number of meaningful points which should be applied to college mathematic education. On the basis of the results of the analysis, we made the following suggestions; 1) It is necessary to pay much attention to the students who have insufficient math ability 2) Special teaching methods are required for Freshman engineering students 3) Practical teaching strategies should be developed for engineering students that are based on the research on their math background 4) We should develop more materials in the area of mathematical concept image 5) More attention should be paid to the relation between math concepts and engineering concepts. Besides the above suggestions, we proposed that more research about students' math background and attitudes should be conducted for more efficient college math education.
This study is to investigate the effects of a mathematics history lecture on elementary students' math learning. Pre- and post-tests were done for 33 6th grade students before and after 3-units of mathematics history lecture by a mathematician. The results show that the lecture improved students' interests and confidence on math. Especially, the tests present a positive change in students' attitudes on math and results in an increased curiosity on and willingness to study math. This study shows a consistent result with previous studies of teaming effects of introducing mathematics history in math. This study also highlights that even 3-units of math history lecture can significantly improve students' attitude and belief on math learning. Given the positive effects of math history lecture on students' math loaming, it is implicated that math history be included in the formal elementary math curriculum and more participation of math history experts in math.learning processes is needed.
