In this study, we evaluated the characteristics by the addition of 3 different kinds of nonionic surfactant to improve the dispersion stability of slurries. Slurry stability is an issue in any industry in which settling of particles can result in poor performance. So we observed the variation of particle size and settling rate when the concentration and addition time of surfactant are changed. When the surfactant is added after milling process, the particle size and pH became low. It is supposed that the particle agglomeration was disturbed by adsorption of surfactant on alumina abrasive. The settling rate was relatively stable when nonionic surfactant is added about 0.1~1.0 wt%. When molecular weight(MW) is too small like Brij 35, it was appeared low effect on dispersion stability. Because it can't prevent coagulation and subsequent settling with too small MW. The proper quality of MW for slurry stability was presented about 500,000. Consequently, the addition of nonionic surfactant to alumina slurry has been shown to have very good effect on slurry stabilization. If we apply this results to copper CMP process, it is thought that we will be able to obtain better yield.

Fuel economy has always been a major issue for the automotive industry due to environmental concerns. In particular, it is known that only 5-20% of the energy generated in a car that mainly uses an internal combustion engine is converted to increase fuel efficiency, many methods have been proposed. Among these methods, weight reduction is most commonly used because it is the simplest and cheapest. Weight is always the main reason for energy consumption, therefore, reducing weight is the best way to increase fuel efficiency while simultaneously saving on material costs. To reduce the weight of a compressor, material substitution is used. However, aluminum (a lighter metal substitute) is more fragile than steel, therefore, structural stability must be verified through testing. In this paper, we performed a 3D analysis to investigate whether aluminum can be used without compromising structural stability. Our investigation included static analysis and thermal analysis. As a result, we found that an aluminum swash plate can be safely applied on a shaft instead of steel; it reduces weight while maintaining stability that is equal to or better than steel.
Graphene is a two-dimensional carbon allotrope composed of honeycomb sp2 hybrid orbital bonds. It shows excellent electrical and mechanical properties and has been spotlighted as a core material for next-generation electronic devices. However, it exhibits low environmental stability due to the easy penetration or adsorption of external impurities from the formation of an unstable interface between the materials in the electronic devices. Therefore, this work aims to improve and investigate the low environmental stability of graphene-based field-effect transistors through direct growth using solid hydrocarbons as a precursor of graphene. Graphene synthesized from direct growth shows high electrical stability through reduction of change in charge mobility and Dirac voltage. Through this, a new approach to utilize graphene as a core material for next-generation electronic devices is presented.
This paper presents an analytical hyperbolic theory based on the refined shear deformation theory for mechanical stability analysis of the simply supported advanced composites plates (exponentially, sigmoidal and power-law graded) under triangular, trapezoidal and uniform uniaxial and biaxial loading. The developed model ensures the boundary condition of the zero transverse stresses at the top and bottom surfaces without using the correction factor as first order shear deformation theory. The mathematical formulation of displacement contains only four unknowns in which the transverse deflection is divided to shear and bending components. The current study includes the effect of the geometric imperfection of the material. The modeling of the micro-void presence in the structure is based on the both true and apparent density formulas in which the porosity will be dense in the mid-plane and zero in the upper and lower surfaces (free surface) according to a logarithmic function. The analytical solutions of the uniaxial and biaxial critical buckling load are determined by solving the differential equilibrium equations of the system with the help of the Navier's method. The correctness and the effectiveness of the proposed HyRPT is confirmed by comparing the results with those found in the open literature which shows the high performance of this model to predict the stability characteristics of the FG structures employed in various fields. Several parametric analyses are performed to extract the most influenced parameters on the mechanical stability of this type of advanced composites plates.
A standard slope stability analysis was undertaken for new railway sections, based on the slope of sedimentary rock layers and filling material (sand), to evaluate the stability of the cut-off slope in the section passing through a zone of sedimentary rock. The stability analysis was undertaken during the dry and rainy seasons, accounting for earthquake occurrence, based on slope design criteria. It was found that if the slope of the sedimentary rock formation was <10°, the effect on the safety rate of the cut-off slope was insignificant. Furthermore, a slope relief of 1:1.0 or more should be applied with slopes of 10~20°, and 1:1.2 or more with >20°. This study provides an important reference for evaluation of slope stability when railway and road construction is undertaken in areas of sedimentary rock.
The NiCr is an important material for present thin-film resistor application owing to its low TCR and thermal stability. In this work, the NiCr thin films were deposited on corning glass substrate by reactive magnetron sputtering and the annealing at temperatures range from 300 to $500^{\circ}C$ for 20 min in vacuum. X-ray, AFM, $R_s$(surface leakage current) have been used to study the structural and electrical properties of the NiCr thin films. The high precision NiCr thin films resistor with TCR(temperature coefficient of resistance) of less then 10 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ was obtained under in in-situ annealing at $300^{\circ}C$ on Cr buffer layer substrate. It is clear that the NiCr thin-films resistor electrical properties are low TCR related with it's annealing and buffer layer condition. NiCr thin film resistor having a good thermal stability and low TCR properties are expected for the application to the dielectric material of passive component.
We investigated the effects of SiH$_4$ gas on the surface of Hf-silicate films during the deposition of polycrystalline (poly) Si films and the thermal stability of sputtered Hf-silicate films in poly Si/Hf-silicate structure by using High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Hf-silicate films were deposited by using DC-mag-netron sputtering with Hf target and Si target and poly Si films were deposited at 600$^{\circ}C$ by using Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) with SiH$_4$ gas. After poly Si film deposition at 600$^{\circ}C$, Hf silicide layer was observed between poly Si and Hf-silicate films due to the reaction between active SiH$_4$ gas and Hf-silicate films. After annealing at 900$^{\circ}C$, Hf silicide, formed during the deposition of poly Si, changed to Hf-silicate and the phase separation of the silicate was not observed. In addition, the Hf-silicate films remain amorphous phase.

It is very important to detect and evaluate the surface or subsurface flaws because of their influences on mechanical properties of materials. Rayleigh wave and creeping wave are commonly used for the detection of surface and subsurface flaws. These techniques, however, have following problems. Each amplitudes are remarkably affected by the surface condition and evaluation of echo pattern is usually difficult because shear wave mode propagate in the material at the same time. On the other hand, surface SH-wave which is horizontally polarized shear wave traveling along near surface layer is an attractive technique for the surface or subsurface material characterization and this technique is useful to solve the problems mentioned above. In this paper, The stability and transmission coefficient of SH waves through a viscous fluid layer is theoretically studied and simulated. Its results agreed well with the theoretical expectation for the experimental verification. These experimental results show that viscosity of couplants, thickness of couplant and surface roughness are closely related to transfer efficiency in surface SH angle beam method.
In this paper, thermal effect on the vibration and stability of initially stressed sandwich plates with functionally graded material (FGM) face sheets is analyzed. Material properties of FGM face sheet are graded continuously in the thickness direction. The variation of FGM properties assumes a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The governing equations of arbitrarily initially-stressed sandwich plates including the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are derived. The initial stress is taken to be a combination of a uniaxial extensional stress and a pure bending stress in the examples. The eigenvalue problems are formed to study the vibration and buckling characteristics of simple supported initially stressed FGM/metal/FGM plates. The effects of volume fraction index, temperature rise, initial stress and layer thickness of metal on the natural frequencies and buckling loads are investigated. The results reveal that the volume fraction index, initial stresses and layer thickness of metal have significant influence on the vibration and stability of sandwich plates with FGM face sheets.

Application of metal silicides such as TiSi$_2$ and CoSi$_2$ as contacts and gate electrodes are being studied. However, TiSi$_2$ due to the linewidth-dependance, and CoSi$_2$ due to the excessive Si consumption during silicidation cannot be applied to the deep-submicron MOSFET device. NiSi shows no such problems and can be formed at the low temperature. But, NiSi shows thermal instability. In this investigation, NiSi was formed with a Ti-capping layer to improve the thermal stability. Ni and Ti films were deposited by the thermal evaporator. The samples were then annealed in the N$_2$ ambient at 300-800$^{\circ}C$ in a RTA (rapid thermal annealing) system. Four point probe, FESEM, and AES were used to study the thermal properties of Ti-capped NiSi layers. The Ti-capped NiSi was stable up to 700$^{\circ}C$ for 100 sec. RTA, while the uncapped NiSi layers showed high sheet resistance after 600$^{\circ}C$. The AES results revealed that the Ni diffusion further into the Si substrate was retarded by the capping layer, resulting in the suppression of agglomeration of NiSi films.
