Abstract Classical stereo matching algorithms can be classified into two major areas; intensity-based and feature-based stereo matching. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages. This paper proposes a new algorithm which merges two main matching techniques. Since the goal of our stereo algorithm is in object modeling, we use images for which background is removed. Primitives and a similarity function are defined. The matching similarity function selectively controls the advantages and disadvantages of intensity-based and feature-based matching by a parameter. As an additional matching strategy, a coarse-to-fine method is used to remove a errorneous data on the disparity map. To handle occlusions, multiple windowing method is used. For finding the surface shape of an object, we propose a method that separates an object and the background by a morphological closing operator. All processes have been implemented and tested with various image pairs. The matching results showed the effectiveness of our method. From the disparity map computed by the matching process, 3D modeling is possible. 3D modeling is manipulated by VRML(Virtual Reality Manipulation Language). The results are summarized in a virtual reality space.

  • Matching customers becomes the key function in on-line mediate services. There are two matching methods: one-directional matching that requires requests from one side(e,g., information searching), bi-directional matching that considers requests from both sides. Previous bi-directional matching has difficulties of getting the interests explicitly and service collapse problems when the opposite side do not put responding interests. This paper attempts to automate the inputs of interests for bi-directional matching by calculating the interests with fuzzy matching algorithm for optimization. The results of the proposed Bi-directional Fuzzy Matching(BDFM) algorithm told that the job placement accuracy of employment information matching results is over 95%. And, BDFM gives statically significant positive effect for motivating the employment activities when analyzed the effect after completing the implementation.

  • Proteins in a cell appear as spots in a two dimensional gel image which is used in protein analysis. The spots from the same protein are in near position when comparing two gel images. Finding out the different proteins between a normal tissue and a cancer one is important information in drug development. Automatic matching of gel images is difficult because they are made from biological experimental processes. This matching problem is known to be NP-hard. Neural networks are usually used to solve such NP-hard problems. Hopfield neural network is selected since it is appropriate to solve the gel matching. An energy function with location and distance parameters is defined. The two spots which make the energy function minimum are matching spots and they came from the same protein. The energy function is designed to reflect the topology of spots by examining not only the given spot but also neighborhood spots.

  • This paper develops the noninformative priors for the stress-strength reliability from one parameter generalized exponential distributions. When this reliability is a parameter of interest, we develop the first, second order matching priors, reference priors in its order of importance in parameters and Jeffreys' prior. We reveal that these probability matching priors are not the alternative coverage probability matching prior or a highest posterior density matching prior, a cumulative distribution function matching prior. In addition, we reveal that the one-at-a-time reference prior and Jeffreys' prior are actually a second order matching prior. We show that the proposed reference prior matches the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense through a simulation study and a provided example.

  • The range resolution of echo sounders can be improved by enhancing the transducer bandwidth. We designed a bandpass matching network for expanding the bandwidth of a transducer by scaling in both impedance and frequency after transforming a lowpass network into a bandpass configuration for a third-order Bessel filter. We measured the effect of the Bessel matching network for a 50 kHz sandwich type transducer on the transmitting voltage response (TVR), receiving sensitivity (SRT) and figure of merit (FOM), using a chirp echo sounder system. Both the simulation and experimental results indicated that the transducer with a bandpass matching network was capable of producing a symmetrical acoustic output over a wider bandwidth (8.25 kHz) than was the transducer without a matching network (3.75 kHz). By implementing the Bessel matching network, we achieved a 120% bandwidth enhancement.

  • In this paper, a new stereo matching algorithm is proposed which uses th econstrainted optimization technique and the matching measures between the segments extracted from zero-crossing edges. The initial matching measures and average disparities are calculated by the features of segments on the searching window of the left and right images. The matching measure is calculated by applying an exponential function using the differences of slope, overlapped length and intensity. The coherency constraint is that neighbouring image points corresponding to the same object should have nearly the same disparities. The matching measures are iteratively updated by applying the coherency constraint. Simulation results on various images show that the proposed algorithm more acculately extracts the segment disparity.

  • Stereo matching is one of the most active research areas in computer vision. In this paper, we propose a stereo matching scheme using genetic algorithm for object depth recognition. The proposed approach considers the matching environment as an optimization problem and finds the optimal solution by using an evolutionary strategy. Accordingly, genetic operators are adapted for the circumstances of stereo matching. An individual is a disparity set. Horizontal pixel line of image is considered as a chromosome. A cost function is composed of certain constraints which are commonly used in stereo matching. Since the cost function consists of intensity, similarity and disparity smoothness, the matching process is considered at the same time in each generation. The LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian) edge is extracted and used in the determination of the chromosome. We validate our approach with experimental results on stereo images.

  • In this paper, we proposed stereo matching algorithm by dynamic programming with edges emphasized. Existing algorithms show blur generally at depth discontinuities owing to smoothness constraint and non-existence of matching pixel in occlusion regions. Also it accompanies matching error by lackness of matching information in the untextured regions. This paper defines new cost function to make up for the problems occurred to existing algorithms. It is possible through deriving matching of edges in left and right images to be carried out between edge regions anf deriving that in the other regions to be peformed between the other regions. In case of the possibility that edges can be Produced in a large amount, matching between edge information adds weight to cost function in proportion to Path distance. Proposed algorithm was applied to various images obtained by convergent camera model as well as parallel camera model. As the result, proposed algorithm showed improved performance in the aspect of matching error and processing in the occlusion regions compared to existing algorithms. Also it could improve blur especially in discontinuity regions.

  • In this paper, a controller for discrete Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model under imperfect premise matching is proposed. Most of previous papers have obtained the stabilization condition using common quadratic Lyapunov function. However, the stabilization condition may be conservative due to the typical disadvantage of the common quadratic Lyapunov function. Hence, in order to solve this problem, we propose the stabilization condition of discrete T-S fuzzy model using fuzzy Lyapunov function. Finally, the proposed approach is verified by the simulation experiments.

  • When the Chebyshev function is applied to design the waveguide transition, it exhibits poor impedance matching characteristics due to impedance discontinuities at the ends of tapered line. In this paper, an improved Chebyshev function, which is obtained by using the convolution property, is proposed to make improvements on the impedance matching characteristics of the waveguide transition. When rectangular to circular waveguide transition is designed by improved function, then the computed return loss is approximately 5 dB better than the conventional Chebyshev function.
