  • This letter presents a power amplifier (PA) with an on-chip power detector for 2.4-GHz wireless local area network application. The power detector consists of a clamp circuit, a diode detector, and a coupled line directional coupler. A series inductor for an output matching network in the PA is combined with a through line of the coupler, which reduces the coupling level. Therefore, the coupler employs a metamaterial-based transformer configuration to increase coupling. The amount of coupling is increased by 2.5 dB in the 1:1 symmetric transformer structure and by 4.5 dB from two metamaterial units along the coupled line.

  • An MMIC oscillator operating at the 24.55 GHz has been designed using 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs Pseudomorphic HEMT technology. The active device used in the oscillator design has a 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate length PHEMT with 4$\times$80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate width. We obtained 4.08 dB of S$_{21}$ gain and 317 mS/mm of transconductance, and extrapolated unit current gain cut-off frequency (f$_{T}$) and maximum oscillation frequency (fmax) were 62 GHz and 120 GHz, respectively. The circuit are based on a series feedback and negative resistance topology. Microstrip line open stub is used to terminating. The oscillator circuits has designed for delivering maximum power to load and conjugated matching. The simulated small signal negative resistance was 50 Ω. We obtained 1.002 of loop gain and 0.0005$^{\circ}$angle from the simulation by HP libra 6.1. The layout for oscillator is 1.2$\times$1.8 $\textrm{mm}^2$.>.

  • Mobile phone antenna needs a small size and light weight for carrying and handling. In case of receiving a wide band TV signal, it would be difficult to obtain a good impedance matching between the antenna and the circuit due to a large capacitive reactance of antenna. Buffer amplifier was established on the teflon( ${\varepsilon}_r=3.38$, h=20mils) substrate by using GaAs FET( CPY30 ) and Silicon RF Transistor( BFP540 ) produced by Infineon and experimented.

  • This paper presents the design of a broadband hybrid mixer using dual-gate FET topology with a low-pass filter which improves return loss of output to isolate RF and LO signal. The low-pass filter shows the isolation whose RF and LO signal is better than 40 dBc at 2 GHz and 5 GHz band. The dual-gate mixer which has been designed by using cascade topology operates when the lower FET is biased in linear region and the upper FET is in saturation. The input matching circuit has been designed to have conversion gain from 2 GHz to 6 GHz. The designed mixer with low-pass filter shows the conversion gain of better than 7 dB from 2 GHz to 6 GHz at a low LO power level of 0 dBm with the fixed IF frequency of 21.4 MHz.

  • Local feature extraction methods for images and videos are widely applied in the fields of image understanding and computer vision. However, robust features are detected differently when using the latest feature detectors and descriptors because of diverse image environments. This paper analyzes various feature extraction methods by summarizing algorithms, specifying properties, and comparing performance. We analyze eight feature extraction methods. The performance of feature extraction in various image environments is compared and evaluated. As a result, the feature detectors and descriptors can be used adaptively for image sequences captured under various image environments. Also, the evaluation of feature detectors and descriptors can be applied to driving assistance systems, closed circuit televisions (CCTVs), robot vision, etc.

  • This paper presents a new modeling method using lamp output power and the modeling coefficients of the lamp. The proposed method utilizes the lamp modeling coefficients such as equivalent impedance Z(p), coupling coefficient of the transformer k(p), turns ratio of the transformer n(p), and plasma resistance Rp(p) as a function of lamp output power. The equivalent impedance Z(p) was developed from the equivalent resistance Req(p) and equivalent inductance Leq(p) of the lamp. Simulation and experimental results of the proposed model are presented in order to validate the proposed method. The modeling method can use to design an impedance matching circuit for a Class-D inverter.

  • Using a coplanar waveguide employing periodic ground structure (PGS) on silicon substrate, a highly miniaturized and broadband impedance transformer was developed for application to low impedance matching in broadband. Concretely, the multi-section transformer was designed using Chebyshev polynomials design technique for ultra broadband operation. Its size was 0.026 $m^2$ on silicon substrate, which was 8.7 % of the one fabricated by conventional coplanar waveguide on silicon substrate. The transformer showed a good RF performance over a ultra broadband from 8 - 49.5 GHz.

  • This study was conducted to develop a grain moisture meter using microwave free space transmission technique at X-band frequency. The 10.5GHz microwave oscillator using a dielectric resonator was designed and fabricated to transmit electromagnetic wave through standard horn antenna to a sample holder with the wetted Hwasung and Chuchung rough rice(12.00∼26.25%). To detect the output voltage of transmitted wave from receiving horn antenna, the detector was composed of shottkey diode and RF impedance matching circuit. The regression model for measurement of grain moisture content was developed. Its correlation coefficient and standard error of prediction (SEP) were found to be 0.9882 and 0.657 respectively between measure and predicted moisture contents.

  • In this paper, we deal wih a concurrent dual band low noise amplifier for a Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) reader operating at 912MHz and 2.45GHz. The design of the low noise amplifier is based on the TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The chip size is $1.8mm\times1.8mm$. To improve the noise figure of the circuit, SMD components and a bonding wire inductor are applied to input matching. Simulation results show that the 521 parameter is 11.41dB and 9.98dB at 912MHz and 2.45GHz, respectively The noise figure is also determined to 1.25dB and 3.08dB at the same frequencies with a power consumption of 8.95mW.
