In this paper, we present a graphics processing unit (GPU)-based matching technique for the purpose of fast feature matching between different images. The scale invariant feature transform algorithm developed by Lowe for various feature matching applications, such as stereo vision and object recognition, is computationally intensive. To address this problem, we propose a matching technique optimized for GPUs to perform computations in less time. We optimize GPUs for fast computation of keypoints to make our system quick and efficient. The proposed method uses a self-organizing map feature matching technique to perform efficient matching between the different images. The experiments are performed on various image sets to examine the performance of the system under varying conditions, such as image rotation, scaling, and blurring. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing feature matching methods, resulting in fast feature matching due to the optimization of the GPU.
Stereo matching techniques are categorized in two major schemes, local and global matching techniques. In global matching schemes, several investigations are introduced, where cost accumulation is performed in multiple matching lines. In this paper, we introduce a new multi-line stereo matching techniques which expands a conventional single-line matching scheme to multiple one. Matching cost is based on simple normalized cross correlation. We expand the scan-line optimization technique to a multi-line scan-line optimization technique. The proposed technique first generates a reliability image, which is iteratively updated based on the previous reliability measure. After some number of iterations, the reliability image is completed by a hole-filling algorithm. The hole-filling algorithm introduces a disparity score table which records the disparity score of the current pixel. The disparity of an empty pixel is determined by comparing the scores of the neighboring pixels. The proposed technique is tested using the Middlebury and CMU stereo images. The error analysis shows that the proposed matching technique yields better performance than using conventional global matching algorithm.

We present a new hybrid stereo matching technique in terms of the co-operation of area-based stereo and feature-based stereo. The core of our technique is that feature matching is carried out by the reference of the disparity evaluated by area-based stereo. Since the reference of the disparity can significantly reduce the number of feature matching combinations, feature matching error can be drastically minimized. One requirement of the disparity to be referenced is that it should be reliable to be used in feature matching. To measure the reliability of the disparity, in this paper, we employ the self-consistency of the disunity Our suggested technique is applied to the detection of 3D line segments by 2D line matching using our hybrid stereo matching, which can be efficiently utilized in the generation of the rooftop model from urban imagery. We carry out the experiments on our hybrid stereo matching scheme. We generate synthetic images by photo-realistic simulation on Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images. Experimental results indicate that the extracted 3D line segments have an average error of 0.5m and verify our proposed scheme. In order to apply our method to the generation of 3D model in urban imagery, we carry out Preliminary experiments for rooftop generation. Since occlusions are occurred around the outlines of buildings, we experimentally suggested multi-image hybrid stereo system, based on the fusion of 3D line segments. In terms of the simple domain-specific 3D grouping scheme, we notice that an accurate 3D rooftop model can be generated. In this context, we expect that an extended 3D grouping scheme using our hybrid technique can be efficiently applied to the construction of 3D models with more general types of building rooftops.
This paper presents a new stereo matching technique which is based on the matching of feature windows and feature links. The proposed method uses the FAST feature detector to find image features in stereo images and determines the correspondences of the detected features in the stereo images. We define a feature window which is an image region containing several image features. The proposed technique consists of two matching steps. First, a feature window is defined in a standard image and its correspondence is found in a reference image. Second, the corresponding features between the matched windows are determined by using the feature link technique. If there is no correspondence for an image feature in the standard image, it's disparity is interpolated by neighboring feature sets. We evaluate the accuracy of the proposed technique by comparing our results with the ground truth of in a stereo image database. We also compare the matching accuracy and computation time with two conventional feature-based stereo matching techniques.

Map matching technique is an essential part of the car navigation and other related positioning fields such as dead reckoning and GPS data logging upon the GIS database. This paper is to break down map matching techniques, to categorize them, and to propose a simple technique for GPS based map matching technique. For categorization of techniques, two approaches have been adopted. One is to only use geometric information, and the other is to use both geometric and topological information. Some pros and cons of each method have been described. In addition, a simple map matching technique, set forth in this paper, has been introduced for properly utilizing the advantage of GPS points after the absence of the chronic problem of selective availability, which had been prevailed recently. Some research opportunities and problems of the technique have also been discussed.

This paper describes a shape matching algorithm for occluded or distorted two-dimensional objects. In our approach, the shape matchin is viewed as a segment matching problem. A shape matching algorithm, based on both the stochastic labeling technique and the hypothesis generate-test paradigm, is proposed, and a simple technique which performs the stochastic labeling process in accordance with the definition of consisten labeling assignment without requiring an iterative updating process of probability valiues is also proposed. Several simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is very effective when occlusion, scaling or change of orientation has occurred in the object.
The eigen value problem of a coaxial cavity and a modified pill box cavity is investigated using the mode matching technique. The coaxial cavity has a cylindrical cavity with beam ports and center conductor. The pill box cavity is the same as a coaxial cavity without center conductor. The electric field and magnetic field are formulated in propagation region and resonance region. The boundary and orthogonal conditions are applied to the electric and magnetic fields. We derived the eigen value equation by the proposed procedure in a coaxial cavity and a modified pill box cavity. The electromagnetic field of the real structure is disturbed by the coaxial wire. The effect of the coaxial wire in pill box cavity with beam ports increase the dominant resonant frequency. The coaxial line method of the coupling impedance is not adequate for a cylindrical cavity. The results of the mode matching technique and simulation agree well. The results confirm the proposed formulation is valid.

GNSS has the disadvantage of being vulnerable to jamming, and thus, the necessity of jamming countermeasure techniques has gradually increased. Jamming countermeasure techniques can be divided into an anti-jamming technique and a jammer localization technique. Depending on the type of a jammer, applicable techniques and performance vary significantly. Using an appropriate jamming countermeasure technique, the effect of jamming on a GNSS receiver can be attenuated, and prompt action is enabled when estimating the location of a jammer. However, if an inappropriate jamming countermeasure technique is used, a GNSS receiver may not operate in the worst case. Therefore, jammer identification is a technique that is essential for proper action. In this study, a technique that identifies a jammer based on template matching was proposed. For template matching, analysis of a received jamming signal is required; and the signal analysis was performed using a spectral correlation function. Based on a simulation, it was shown that the proposed identification of jamming signals was possible at various JNR.

This paper reports the application of radiocarbon wiggle matching for Korean wooden artifacts such as furniture and Buddhist statues for precise dating. Ten biannual samples of 20 years (AD 1249-1268) for AMS (accelerator mass spectrometry) radiocarbon measurements were prepared from a board of the pedestal for Buddhist statue at Jeongsusa (temple) in Kangwhado, Korea, which was dendrochronologically dated. The average 95.4% confidence interval of radiocarbon dating without wiggle matching was 123 year. When wiggle matching technique was applied, it became 37 year, 3.3 times smaller than that without wiggle matching. The results indicated that wiggle matching technique using the calibration curve for northern hemisphere (IntCal04: International radiocarbon calibration curve announced in 2004) can produce precise dates for Korean wooden artifacts which possess as much as 20 tree rings.

This study presents a schema matching technique which can be applied to XML semantic model of structural calculation reports of steel-box bridges. The semantic model of structural calculation documents was developed by extracting the optimized common elements from the analyses of various existing structural calculation documents, and the standardized semantic model was schematized by using XML Schema. In addition, the similarity measure technique and the relaxation labeling technique were employed to develop the schema matching algorithm. The former takes into account the element categories and their features, and the latter considers the structural constraints in the semantic model. The standardized XML semantic model of steel-box bridge's structural calculation documents called target schema was compared with existing nonstandardized structural calculation documents called primitive schema by the developed schema matching algorithm Some application examples show the importance of the development of standardized target schema for structural calculation documents and the effectiveness and efficiency of schema matching technique in the examination of the degree of document standardization in structural calculation reports.
