Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different supporting surfaces on trunk muscle activities during core stabilization exercises. Methods : A total of 20 healthy college students participated in this study for 6 weeks. In this study, we divided participants into a stable surface exercise group and an unstable surface exercise group. Each group performed core stabilization exercises of Curl-ups, Bridges, and Quadrupedal position. Core stabilization exercises were performed 3 times a week for 30 minutes during 6 weeks. The stable surface exercise group used a yoga mat while the unstable surface exercise group used AERO step. This study was designed using pre-test and post-test measurements. We used Surface Electromyograpy (sEMG) to measure for the rectus abdominis, external abdominal oblique, and multifidus muscle of trunk muscle activities. Data was processed using a paired sample t-test on SPSS 18.0. Results : For the stable surface exercise group there was a meaningful improvement in left rectus abdominis, left external abdominal oblique, and right multifidus (p<0.05). For the unstable surface exercise group, a meaningful improvement was seen in the left external abdominal oblique and right multifidus. Conclusion : From the experiment, we concluded that differences in surface can make various degrees of improvement in muscles activities, which suggests patients can choose a better option under their own conditions when planning to have a core stability exercise.
Fermented medical herbs using Lactobacilli have attracted significant attention due to their enhanced biological activities. A traditional medicinal plant, Artemisia annua L., was fermented using a probiotic strain, L. plantarum SK3494. The strain was isolated from Artemisia princeps var. orientalis and molecularly identified through sequence similarities and phylogenetic tree analysis. The antioxidant activity of L. plantarum-fermented A. annua L. (LFA) was determined using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Cellular antioxidant activity of LFA was examined using the superoxide radical reduction assay in MAT-C cells. Total polyphenol contents (TPC) and flavonoid contents (TFC) of LFA were determined. The antibacterial activity of LFA against fish pathogens was also determined in this study. The viable cell number (9.38 log10 CFU/ml) and pH (4.1) results showed good adaptive ability of the selected strain during fermentation. LFA was found to have enhanced antioxidant activity compared to non-fermented A. annua L. (NFA) based on the DPPH assay. Cellular antioxidant activity was present in both LFA and NFA. After 24 hr and 48 hr of fermentation, the LFA also showed antibacterial activities against fish pathogens Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae and Vibrio ichthyoenteri. These results suggest that L. plantarum-fermented A. annua L. may have potential as a feed additive in aquaculture.
To evaluate the functions of vegetation mat of artificial floating island (AFI) installed in Lake Paldang, nutrients, such as total phosphorus (TP), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), total nitrogen (TN) and nitrate $(NO_3)$ and microbial factors such as total bacterial numbers, active bacterial numbers and exoenzymatic activities of $\beta$-glucosidase and phosphatase in pore water of medium and bulk lake water were analyzed. The concentration of TN and $NO_3$ in pore water ranged from 4.4 to 7.5mg $L^{-1}$ from 1.2 to 3.8mg $L^{-1}$ respectively, which were ca. 2 times higher than those of lake water. The ranges of TP and DIP of were $1.4\sim4.1mg\;L^{-1}$ and $0.003\sim0.137mg\;L^{-1}$ in pore water of media which were $4\sim25$ and 5 times higher than those of lake water, respectively. The numbers of total bacteria and active bacteria in pore waterwere about 10 times higher than those of laker water. Also, both phosphatase and $\beta$-glucosidase activities of pore water were on an average 10 times higher than those of lake water. These results suggest that the bacteria were playing important role for nutrients concentrating and cycling in media of artificial floating island. And the medium of artificial floating island contained newly created microbial ecosystem, which is responsible for sustaining the growth of macrophytes and the creation of new aquatic ecosystem.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of submerged relaxation therapy for the spasticity on the affected side in three subjects with post-stroke hemiparesis. A single-subject alternating design with multiple baselines across individuals was employed in this study. Each subject alternately participated in a range of motion exercises on the mat and in the pool, and relaxation exercises in the pool. The muscle tone of the affected side was measured using the tone assessment scale (TAS). Measurements were made immediately and one hour following the intervention. The findings showed a therapeutic effect of submerged relaxation exercise on reducing spasticity for all subjects. The effect of submerged relaxation exercise on decreasing muscle tone was maintained for one hour measurements after the submerged relaxation exercise, although the mean TAS score assessed one hour after intervention was higher than that assessed immediately. The results of this study suggest that submerged relaxation exercise has a positive effect on decreasing spasticity on the affected side in persons suffering from post-stroke hemiparesis. Future research on submerged relaxation exercise should focus on objective evaluation and functional the aspects relevant to activities of daily living.

In the present study, three Malaysian Channa spp. fish Channa striatus, Channa micropeltes and Channa lucius were assessed for their analgesic activity. Distilled water and mixture of chloroform: methanol were used for extraction. The analgesic or antinociceptive activity was investigated by abdominal writhing and hot plate test. The water extract of Channa striatus and the chloroform: methanol extract Channa lucius produced potent antinociceptive effect when assessed with the abdominal writhing test. The activity was compared to morphine where the activity of the extracts was less potent than the opioid. In the hote plate test, water extract of Channa striatus revealed significant activity and chloroform:methanol extract of Channa micropeltes had moderate activity. However, these activities were statistically lower than morphine. Collectively, this study also showed that Channa striatus extract was more potent analgesic agent when compared to the other closely related snakehead Channa micropeltes and Channa lucius.

In this study, new antibacterial materials were developed to manufacture a functional corrugated board. Sulfur solution, a new antibacterial solution made from inorganic sulfur in the laboratory, and other antibacterial mat erials were adopted to treat the surface of a linerboard. We measured the antibacteriocidal and bacteriostatic activities, as well as the fungal resistance of the surface-treated linerboards, to identify the antibacterial properties. The mechanical properties of the surface-treated linerboard were also determined in order to identify the effects of the antibacterial materials on linerboard properties. Linerboard treated with sulfur solution, PVOH, and sodium metasulfite showed the highest antibacterial activity, while linerboard treated with sulfur solution and nano sulfur showed the highest fungal resistance. It was identified that sulfur solution has effective antibacterial properties. The antibacterial materials did not affect the mechanical properties of the surface-treated linerboard, but the binder showed significant effects in terms of the burst strength, the compressive strength, and the stiffness of the linerboard.
Sleeping is important for human being in that it has a great effect on their daily activities. Considering that an average adult sleeps seven to eight hours a third of our life is spent in bed. The present study intends to make consumers aware of the important of the bedding science and help the manufactures develop efficient, up-to-date beds. For these two purposes, consumers' recognitions and opinions on the features of the bedding were surveyed. In the study, a questionnaire consisting of various items on the features of the bedding was designed and distributed to consumers in 8 regions & Taegu in Korea to survey the patterns in which they buy, use, and maintain their bedding. The result of the study are as follows; Air conditioner is widely used popular because of hot weather in Taegu. People in Taegu mostly purchase their bedding from market, in every 5~6 years. The important point to be considered for bedding purchases were humidity absorption, air permeability, light weight in summer comforters, thermal insulation, flexibility, color figure design in winter comforters, humidity absorption, flexibility, color figure design in mats. As summer bedding, a sheet of single-layer quilt and rush mat were most popular which indicates climate of hot and humid weather in Taegu. Bedding uses in winter were in order a sheet of cotton, silk, wool quilt, and silk quilt showed high level in contrast to other areas. Dissatisfactions with summer quilts were humidity absorption, air permeability, heaviness and in winter quilts they were dissatisfied with thermal insulation, heaviness, flattening. In details about bedding managements, people in Taegu most frequently disinfected their bedding by sunlight in one month, and refinished every 5 years.
China's rapid economic growth has resulted in significant environmental side effects. Therefore, China has been interested in reducing her dependence on foreign oil and gas by developing technologies needed for hydrogen, in addition to her increasing energy mix of nuclear and renewable energy form, such as solar and wind power. There are three isotopes of hydrogen, i.e. protium (P or H), deuterium (D), and tritium (T). Both deuterium and tritium are important materials in nuclear fuel cycle industry. Tritium is one of the critical radioactive nuclides. Planning for and implementing contamination control as a part of normal operation and maintenance activities is an important function in any hydrogen facility, especially tritium facility. The development of hydrogen isotopes analysis is the key issues in this area. Mass spectrometry (MS) with medium (about 600) and high resolution (> 1,400) is commercially available; however, the routine analysis of hydrogen isotopes is done with low-resolution MS (< 200) in China. This paper summarizes the progress of MS measurement technology for hydrogen isotope abundance in China, focusing on our lab's research program and technical status. An analyzing method has been introduced for accurate measurement of tritium abundance in the H.D.T system by low resolution MAT-253 MS. The quotient of compression ratio coefficient is determined by building up equipment for laboratory-scale preparation of secondary standard gases and by considering the difference in sensitivity between hydrogen isotopes. The results show that the measured value is reproducible within the relative error range of 0.8% for gas samples of different tritium abundance.

Mushroom cultivation along with the palm oil industry in Malaysia have contributed to large volumes of accumulated lignocellulosic residues that cause serious environmental pollution when these agroresidues are burned. In this study, we illustrated the utilization of lignocellulolytic enzymes from the spent mushroom substrate of Pleurotus pulmonarius for the hydrolysis of palm oil mill effluent (POME). The hydrolysate was used for the production of biohydrogen gas and enzyme assays were carried out to determine the productivities/activities of lignin peroxidase, laccase, xylanase, endoglucanase and β-glucosidase in spent mushroom substrate. Further, the enzyme cocktails were concentrated for the hydrolysis of POME. Central composite design of response surface methodology was performed to examine the effects of enzyme loading, incubation time and pH on the reducing sugar yield. Productivities of the enzymes for xylanase, laccase, endoglucanase, lignin peroxidase and β-glucosidase were 2.3, 4.1, 14.6, 214.1, and 915.4 U g-1, respectively. A maximum of 3.75 g/lof reducing sugar was obtained under optimized conditions of 15 h incubation time with 10% enzyme loading (v/v) at a pH of 4.8, which was consistent with the predicted reducing sugar concentration (3.76 g/l). The biohydrogen cumulative volume (302.78 ml H2.L-1 POME) and 83.52% biohydrogen gas were recorded using batch fermentation which indicated that the enzymes of spent mushroom substrate can be utilized for hydrolysis of POME.

Penicillium spp. are frequently found in meju, a Korean traditional fermented soybean brick. We isolated and identified 96 Penicillium spp. from 22 traditional meju, and their β-tubulin genes were sequenced for the genetic and taxonomic study. Penicillium Section Viridicata was the most commonly isolated group. Notably, we also isolated and identified Penicillium roqueforti, a crucial industrial strain employed in the fermentation of blue cheese. Additionally, certain strains exhibited relatively high protease and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activities, suggesting that they might contribute to the development of kokumi flavor during meju fermentation. Interestingly, all eight Penicillium spp., including P. roqueforti, were found to possess both types of MAT1 genes. This intriguing finding suggests the feasibility of strain improvement through mating, thereby offering opportunities for industrial applications. Therefore, these studies pave the way for a deeper exploration of Penicillium's role in meju fermentation, potentially leading to the development of starters for producing plant-based cheese-flavored condiments.
