In the vibration analysis of structure in fluid such as ships and offshore structures, the hydrodynamic added mass considerably affects the result of analysis. Therefore correct evaluation of the hydrodynamic added mass effect is required for an accurate analysis. But the correct evaluation of the effect is not simple because the added mass varies with the mode shape of vibration as well as the configuration of the structure. The universal method employed to evaluate added mass in ship hull vibration is Lewis's method via the introduction of 3 dimensional correction factor. But this conventional method is valid only for beam-like vibration.

The R-134a flow distribution is experimentally studied for a heat exchanger composed of round headers and 10 flat tubes. The effects of tube protrusion depth as well as mass flux, and quality are investigated, and the results are compared with the previous air-water results. The flow at the header inlet is stratified. For the downward flow configuration, the liquid distribution improves as the protrusion depth or the mass flux increases, or the quality decreases. For the upward configuration, the liquid distribution improves as the mass flux or quality decreases. The protrusion depth has minimal effect. For the downward configuration. the effect of quality on liquid distribution is significantly affected by the flow regime at the header inlet. For the stratified inlet flow, the liquid is forced to rear part of the header as the quality decreases. However, for the annular inlet flow, the liquid was forced to the frontal part of the header as the quality decreased. For the upward flow, the effect of the mass flux or quality on liquid distribution of the stratified inlet flow is opposite to that of the annular inlet flow. The high gas velocity of the annular flow may be responsible for the trend. Generally, the liquid distribution of the stratified inlet flow is better than that of the annular inlet flow. Possible explanation is provided from the flow visualization results.
It is evidenced that the mass media can play an important role in communicating information to the public. Although some campaigns have failed to achieve success, application of mass communication principles should increase the likelihood of effectiveness. Specifically, campaign strategies should attempt to select message sources that are perceived as credible by the audience. In designing and disseminating messages, the quality of content should be emphasiged as well as the quantity of presencation. The context of message reception should be carefully considered. Selection of channels depends on the configuration of source, superior for most purposes. The crucial role of precampaign audience analysis should not be overlooked.
The computation of viscoelastic flow using neural networks and stochastic simulation (CVFNNSS) is developed from the point of view of Eulerian CONNFFESSIT (calculation of non-Newtonian flows: finite elements and stochastic simulation techniques). The present method is based on the combination of radial basis function networks (RBFNs) and Brownian configuration fields (BCFs) where the stress is computed from an ensemble of continuous configuration fields instead of convecting discrete particles, and the velocity field is determined by solving the conservation equations for mass and momentum with a finite point method based on RBFNs. The method does not require any kind of element-type discretisation of the analysis domain. The method is verified and its capability is demonstrated with the start-up planar Couette flow, the Poiseuille flow and the lid driven cavity flow of Hookean and FENE model materials.
The major subject of this paper is to develop the concept fur a Korea high speed train system and recommend to train configuration. High speed train configurations are basically concerned traction power(train configurations with concentrated; CPT or distributed Power system: DPT) and train design(single car as compared with articulated bogies). The result of configuration, a advantages and disadvantaged were necessitated by different train configurations; -distributed underfloor power have an increased length for the seats by 15% as compared with the concentrated power trait - articulated trainsets are characterised by less of number of bogies and reduced values of mass, train resistance, noise and vibration. from the result, the optimized train concept combining high seat capacity per train length with low weight and train resistance is 400m long, single -floor train composed of two symmetrically arranged half trainsets. Therefore, at this work recommended distributed train system However, the final decision of Korea high speed train configuration was concentrated power train and articulated bogie system. The configuration of trainset was 20cars included 2 power cars, 4 motorized cars and 14 trailer cars.

This manuscript introduces a new damping device which is composed of a water tank and a pendulum. The new damping device can be tuned to multiple frequencies. In addition, it has a higher energy dissipation capacity when compared with the conventional Tuned Liquid Dampers (TLDs). In order to evaluate the efficiency of this new damping device a series of free vibration and forced vibration tests were conducted on a scaled down single-story one-bay steel frame. Two different configurations were studied for the mass of the pendulum that included a completely and a partially submerged mass. It was observed that the completely submerged configuration led to 44% higher damping ratio when compared with the conventional TLD. In addition, the completely submerged configuration reduced the peak displacement response of the structure 1.6 times more than the conventional TLD. The peak acceleration response of the structure equipped with the new damping device was reduced twice more than the conventional TLD. It was also found that, when the excitation frequency is lower than the resonance frequency, the conventional TLD performs better than the partially submerged configuration of the new damping device.

Four different data reduction methods for the heat transfer coefficients from experimental data under dehumidifying conditions are compared. The four methods consist of two heat and mass transfer models and two fin efficiency models. Data are obtained from two heat exchanger samples having plain fins or wave fins. Comparison of the reduced heat transfer coefficients revealed that the single potential heat and mass transfer model yielded the humidity-independent heat transfer coefficients. Two fin efficiency models-enthalpy model and humidity model-yielded approximately the same fin efficiencies, and accordingly approximately the same heat transfer coefficients. The heat transfer coefficients under wet conditions were approximately the same as those of the dry conditions for the plain fin configuration. For the wave fin configuration, however, wet surface heat transfer coefficients were approximately 12% higher. The pressure drops of the wet surface were 10% to 45% larger than those of the dry surface.

The refrigerant R-134a flow distributions are experimentally studied for a round header/ten flat tube test section simulating a brazed aluminum heat exchanger. Three different inlet orientations(parallel, normal, vertical) were investigated. Tests were conducted with downward flow for the mass flux from 70 to 130 $kg/m^2s$ and quality from 0.2 to 0.6. In the test section, tubes were flush-mounted with no protrusion into the header. It is shown that normal and vertical inlet yielded approximately similar flow distribution. At high mass fluxes or high qualities, however, slightly better results were obtained for normal inlet configuration. The flow distribution was worst for the parallel inlet configuration. Possible explanation is provided based on flow visualization results.
The present study deals with a numerical simulation for the transport phenomena in three configurations of Membrane Distillation (Air Gap, Direct Contact and Sweeping Gas Membrane Distillation) usually used for desalination in order to make an objective comparison between them under the same operating conditions. The models are based on the conservation equations for the mass, momentum, energy and species within the feed saline and cooling solutions as well as on the mass and energy balances on the membrane sides. The theoretical model was validated with available data and was found in good agreement. DCMD configuration provided the highest pure water production while SGMD shows the highest thermal efficiency. Process parameters' impact on each configuration are also presented and discussed.
Vapor explosions can be classified in terms of modes of contact between the hot molten fuel and the coolant, since different contact modes may affect fuel-coolant mixing and subsequent vapor explosion energetics. It is generally accepted that most vapor explosion phenomena fall into three different modes of contact; fuel pouring into coolant, coolant injection into fuel and stratified fuel-coolant layers. In this study, we review previous stratified steam explosion experiments as well as recent experiments performed at the KTH in Sweden. While experiments with prototypic reactor materials are minimal, we do note that generally the energetics is limited for the stratified mode of contact. When the fuel mass involved in a steam explosion in a stratified geometry is compared to a pool geometry based on geometrical aspects, one can conclude that there is a very limited set of conditions (when melt jet diameter is small) under which a steam explosion is more energetic in a stratified geometry. However, under these limited conditions the absolute energetic explosion output would still be small because the total fuel mass involved would be limited.
