It is not easy to access very high speed Internet services at sea due to some technical and economical problems. In order to realize the very high speed Internet services at sea like on land, new communication network models based on MANET should be adopted. In this paper, a new MANET model at sea is provided, which considered the ocean environments, and the characteristics and movement of vessels. On the basis of the fact that most vessels navigate on the predetermined courses, which are the shortest paths between source and destination ports in most cases, a type of location oriented routing protocol is proposed in this paper. The Hybrid Course-Based Routing Protocol(HCBR) makes use of the static information such as courses and positions of ports to proactively find the shortest paths not only among ports but also the cross points of courses. HCBR also makes use of the locational information of vessels obtained via GPS and AIS systems to reactively discover the shortest route by which data packets are delivered between them. We have simulated the comparison of the performance of HCBR with those of LAR scheme 1 and scheme2, the most typical protocols using geographical information. The simulation results show that HCBR guarantees the route discovery even without using any control packet. They also show that HCBR is more reliable(40%) and is able to obtain more optimal routes(10%) than LAR scheme1 and scheme2 protocols.

Marine data communications still look for a novel data communication system at sea because of the restriction of bandwidths and costs of current carriers. In order to make the most efficient use of the broadband land carriers at sea, this paper proposes a routing scheme (MCS-NTC) at a marine MANET model. The routing scheme optimizes the route by choosing optimal nodes and carriers among the traditional and land carriers based on normalized transmission characteristics of applications and carriers. The performance is compared with the max-win method (OMH-MW) scheme considering the specific values of transmission characteristics. The result shows that our scheme derives more efficient routes than the previous one in terms of the transmission characteristics such as bandwidth, cost, delay, the number of hops and carriers.

Ships built today are larger in scale and feature more complex structures. The ever-evolving systems used on board a ship require vast amounts of data processing. In the future, with the advent of smart ships, unmanned ships and other next-generation ships, the volumes of data to be processed will continue to increase. Yet, to date, ship data has been processed using wired networks. Placed at fixed locations, the nodes on wired networks often fail to process data from mobile devices. Despite many attempts made to use Wi-Fi on ships just as on land to create wireless networks, Wi-Fi has hardly been available due to the complex metal structures of ships. Therefore, Wi-Fi on ships has been patchy as the ship-wide total Wi-Fi coverage has not properly implemented. A new ship-wide wireless network environment is part of the technology conducive to the shipbuilding industry. The wireless network environment should not only serve the purpose of communication but also be able to manage and control multiple features in real-time: fault diagnostics, tracking, accident prevention and safety management. To better understand the characteristics of wireless frequencies for ships, this paper tests the widely used TETRA, UHF and Wi-Fi and sheds light on the features, advantages and disadvantages of each technology in ship settings. The proposed deployment of a Super Wi-Fi network leveraging the legacy UHF system of TMS generates a ship-wide wireless network environment. The experimental findings corroborate the feasibility of the proposed ship-wide Super Wi-Fi network environment.

In this paper, we analyze the possibility of deregistration attack in 5G SNPN (Standalone Non-Public Network) based on 3GPP standard document. In the deregistraion attack, the attacker pretends to be a UE that is normally registered with AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function) and attempts to establish a spoofed RRC (Radio Resource Control) connection, causing AMF to deregister the existing UE. The existing deregistration attack attempts a spoofed RRC connection to the AMF in which the UE is registered. In addition, this paper analyzes whether deregistration attack is possible even when an attacker attempts to establish a spoofed RRC connection to a new AMF that is different from the registered AMF. When the 5G mobile communication network system is implemented by faithfully complying with the 3GPP standard, it is determined that a deregistration attack of a UE is impossible.

Recently, RFID/USN technology has been applied in various fields such as logistics, environment, education, home network, disaster prevention, military, and medical care, but despite the remarkable development of RFID/USN technology, it is difficult to apply it to marine industry due to the characteristics of poor marine environment. Therefore, satellites are mainly used in the marine sector, and existing communication networks are used in the coast, so measures for forming a shelf-only short-range network in the ocean are being considered. In this paper, we consider the use of drones as mobile base stations of USN as a base station role using USN in existing PS-LTE and LTE networks.Since autonomous navigation vessels are aiming for the intelligent system, the number of crew and labor force should be reduced and the function of autonomous network formation in the form of more stable and intelligent ICT convergence technology should be strengthened.

Accurate ranging is one of the key factors in the test and evaluation process of underwater vehicles. In particular, when estimating range using Time of Arrival (ToA) values, signals such as Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM), a chirp signal, are highly applicable due to their correlated nature. However, in a Doppler shift environment with mobility, measurement errors may occur due to the range-Doppler coupling effect. In this paper, we propose a signal that compensates for the distance-Doppler coupling effect to reduce the measurement error of the arrival time value. The proposed signal is constructed by superimposing two types of LFM signals, and the range-Doppler coupling effect can be minimized. Through simulations, it is confirmed that the proposed signal is a way to compensate for the distance-Doppler coupling effect in the distance estimation of underwater mobile bodies, reducing the measurement error of the arrival time value.

There are many types of circularly polarized(CP) microstrip antenna elements, which are used as a good unit radiator. Since an advantage of CP antenna is no strict alignment requirements between Rx and Tx system, the printed antennas with circular polarization are very often used in numerous satellite and mobile radio systems. In order to realize the broad bandwidth of 3 dB axial ratio and impedance of CP microstrip antenna, complex feed structure and tri-plate patch element have been researched. This paper describes a design of wideband microstrip cross slot array antennas with circular polarization. The proposed antenna is composed of an open-ended microstrip feed line as a feeder and a cross slot as a radiator for circular polarization. To realize the wide bandwidth, tri-plate structure are considered and cross slot is electromagnetically coupled with feed line. Optimum parameters of 1-element cross slot antenna are analyzed and designed by method of moments. These parameters are also applied to may antennas design considered the mutual coupling between radiating elements. Right hand circular polarization(RHCP) and left hand circular polarization(LHCP) of the proposed antenna are easily controlled by asymmetrical cross slot structure and slot position. In 1-element and 15-element cross slot array antenna, the good axial ratio of 1 dB below and the broad bandwidth characteristics of antenna are obtained.
This paper asks whether the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy should continue to focus on building ocean-going naval ships when it faces the threats of North Korean provocations in littoral areas. My position is that the ROK Navy should keep pursuing ocean-going capabilities. I provide explanations why it should do so from the perspectives of three important dimensions: capability, doctrine, and organizational identity. First, I argue that the distinction between a littoral navy and an ocean-going navy is an unnecessary dichotomy. It may lead to inefficiency in national security. The military posture should be designed in a way that it can address all external threats to national security regardless of whether they are from North Korea or not. Such capability is the one that the ROK Navy has tried to acquire with the 'Blue Water Navy' initiative since the 1990s. Second, also from the perspective of lately developed military doctrines that emphasize jointness and precision strike capability, ocean-going capabilities such as the mobile task fleet program have become a must, not an option, given today's security situations on and around the Korean peninsula. Lastly, I draw attention to the fact that the 'Blue Water Navy (BWN)' initiative meant more than just capability to the ROK navy. The BWN represents the ROK navy's organizational identity that the navy has defined since the 1980s as it emphasized promoting national interest and international standing as part of its organizational essence. Furthermore, the phrase 'blue water navy' took on symbolic meanings to the people that are associated with South Korean-ness including sovereignty, national pride, standing in the world and hopes for the future. Since 1990s, many scholars and experts have made the case for the necessity of improving South Korea's naval capability based on different rationales. They emphasized the protection of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), the economic value of the sea, the potential danger associated with territorial disputes over islands, and increasing naval power of neighboring countries since the end of the Cold War. This paper adds to this debate by trying to explain the matter with different factors including naval doctrines and organizational identity. Particularly, this paper constitutes a unique endeavor in that it incorporating constructivist elements (that is, identity politics) in explaining a national security matter.

In this paper, the novel shipboard Active Phased Array Antenna(APAA) system for maritime mobile satellite communications is introduced. The antenna uses novel technologies like wide range hybrid tracking, single antenna elements with both of Rx and Tx, asymmetrical array structure, interference isolation between Rx and Tx, and error correction method from frequency scan effect. The antenna has single aperture for both of Rx and Tx with 32 $\times$ 4 two-dimensional array. The antenna has two beams. Its frequencies are 7.25 ~ 7.75 GHz for Rx and 7.9 ~ 8.4 GHz for Tx. The antenna gains are 35.4 dBi for Rx and 35.7 dBi for Tx, those are 54 % of efficiency. The electrically steering ranges are $\pm$35$^{\circ}$ of elevation direction and $\pm$4$^{\circ}$ of azimuth direction. The mechanical control ranges at hybrid tracking capability are continuous 360$^{\circ}$ of azimuth direction and $\pm$10$^{\circ}$ of elevation direction. The antenna has 2.2$^{\circ}$ of 3 dB beamwidth, -14 dB of sidelobe level, and 21 dB of cross-pol suppression. The antenna performance was measured by near field measurement set. Its system performance was tested on the ship motion simulator and with the satellite transponder simulator. The test result showed that its tracking error was within -3 dB from its peak gain under motion condition. The antenna system was tested by real modulated Direct Broadcasting Satellite(DBS) signals to check its communication processing function.

In this paper, to verify the authenticity of UxNB that assists terrestrial base stations, the solutions for SI (System Information) security presented in 3GPP TR 33.809 are analyzed from the perspective of UxNB. According to the definition of 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project), UxNB is a base station mounted on a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), is carried in the air by the UAV, and is a radio access node that provides a connection to the UE (User Equipment). Such solutions for SI security can be classified into hash based, MAC (Message Authentication Codes) based, and digital signature based, and a representative solution for each category is introduced one by one. From the perspective of verifying the authenticity of UxNB for each solution, we compare and analyze the solutions in terms of provisioning information and update, security information leakage of UxNB, and additionally required amount of computation and transmission. As a result of the analysis, the solution for verifying the authenticity of the UxNB should minimize the secret information to be stored in the UxNB, be stored in a secure place, and apply encryption when it is updated over the air. In addition, due to the properties of the low computing power of UxNB and the lack of power, it is necessary to minimize the amount of computation and transmission.
