  • This study suggests a plan for revitalizing return-to-farming / fishing villages through the marine leisure industry by analyzing the practical problems faced by young and older adults who have returned to the marine leisure field. A case study was conducted to identify the problems faced by those returning to marine leisure, and to determine the measures for revitalizing return-to-farming / fishing villages. Interview participants were those returning to marine leisure and experts in related fields. The problems identified include the exclusive culture of fishing villages, difficulty in raising initial investment funds, and lack of marine leisure education programs for return-to-farming / fishing villages. The proposals to solve these problems and revitalize return-to-farming / fishing villages through the marine leisure industry include the introduction of an incentive system to mitigate barriers to entry; establishment of a matching system; use of idle land in fishing villages to promote return-to-farming / fishing villages; introduction of a consignment management system after the pre-investment of the fishing villages; and establishment of an education program, including in the fisheries field, and infrastructure for return-to-farming / fishing villages for marine leisure.

  • The interest in the marine leisure sports is rapidly growing, due to the increases of the leisure time in the five working day per week and the increases of GNP. The regional governments are trying to attract massive investments into the marine leisure industry through international exhibitions and yacht rallies: However, the domestic demand patterns don't increase in contrast to those advanced countries. Up to now, few studies have been made on the industrial factors for the promotions of the marine leisure sports. In this study, variables affecting the marine leisure sports were analyzed into economical, social factors and so on. The correlations between the environmental variables and the number of the leisure boats per 1,000 persons were analyzed. Lastly, prospective suggestions were made for the developments of the marine leisure sport industries through comparisons of the domestic environmental factors with those of the advanced countries.

  • This study analyzes the operating conditions of domestic marinas in response to changes in marine leisure trends and demand for recreational boats, and suggests ways to improve services according to the types and functions of marinas. In order to popularize marine leisure and to foster coastal and marine tourism industry, the 'Act on the Development, Management, etc. of Marinas' was enacted in 2010 and 'The 1st Marina Basic Plan' was established, and more than 34 marinas are operated nationwide. In order for domestic marinas to be used as an infrastructure for marine leisure activities, measures for enhancing service functions should be prepared in accordance with the size and characteristics of marinas. It is also necessary to improve facilities for marine leisure management and tourist convenience.

  • Korea has been took the top ranking in the global shipbuilding industry in terms of new orders, order backlogs and the volume of vessels for several years. However, the domestic small- and medium-scale shipbuilders currently face imminent threat from China and new challenge to focus on development of high value-added ships. So far, the marine leisure industry of Korea has been showed weak global competitiveness and there were few attempts to design and develop leisure boats and yachts. We describe the digital design process of leisure boat exterior that could reflect user's sensibilities and feelings of entire forms of the products. This design process contains stepwise sensibility evaluation via web and provides designers with various and fast feedbacks about their design outputs in each design stage.

  • The interest on the marine leisure sports is rapidly increasing with the advent of the five-day week and with increments of GNP. The self-governing bodies are trying to drag large investments into the marine leisures industry through international exhibitions and yacht rallies. Unfortunately, the demands in the domestic area don't increase differently from those demand patterns in the advanced countries. In this study, several suggestions for vitalizations on the marine leisure industry are made after surveying the recognition degree of the domestic people on the marine leisures and the current states of their spending on the marine leisures. As results, it has been shown that the policies based upon negative factors coming from negative understandings on the leisure activities should be largely revised. Further, it seems that the policies for the preparations of the laws and the regulations for the marine leisures as well as for the R&D policies should be taken systematically so that the infra structures are constructed while improving the negative understandings on the leisures. The fundamental databases investigated in this study will help the policy makers and the investors reduce the risks of the policy and the investments in the field of marine leisure sports.
