Object oriented generic cost modeling for integrated CAD system

  • The objective of this research is to develop a cost model for integrated CAD system. A computerized system realizing this model then is used to aid designers. The first area is to propose a conceptual framework of a multilevel cost model. The methodology of constructing the model is discussed. Then suggestion of an object oriented programming technique for implementing the model is presented. Complicate estimation procedure can be systematically handled by this technique. Interval analysis to deal with the uncertainty of information and decision during design process is used. An experimentation algorithm for calculating the cost distribution is proposed to overcome the shortcoming of interval analysis. Major focus of this research is on net shape manufacturing processes including die casting, injection molding, and metal forming.

  • For volumetric error measurement and calibration for machine tools, manufacturing machine or coordinate measuring machine (CMM), are studied using a Ball-bar artifact. A design of the Ball-bar is suggested manufactured by Invar, which is a low thermal expansion material, and precision steel balls. The uncertainty for the artifact method is discussed. A method of the Ball-bar artifact for obtaining 3-D position errors in CMM is proposed. The method of error vector measurement is shown using the Ball-bar artifact. Finally, the volumetric error is calculated from the error vectors and it can be used for Pitch error compensation in conventional NC machine and 3-D position Error map for calibration of NC machine tools.

Shape Optimization of HDD Head Slider for Enhancing Reliabilities (신뢰성 향상을 위한 HDD용 헤드 슬라이더의 형상최적설계)

  • This study is to suggest a probabilistic design determining configurations of slider air bearings with the dimensional manufacturing tolerances of the ABS. The probabilistic design problem is formulated to minimize the variation in flying height from a target value while satisfying the desired probabilities keeping the pitch and roll angles within suitable range. The proposed approach first solves the deterministic optimization problem. Then, beginning with this solution, the RBDO is continued with the probabilistic constraints affected by the random variables with a fixed standard deviation in normal distribution. The RBDO results are directly compared with the values of the initial design and the results of the deterministic optimization, respectively. The reliability analyses are performed by the descriptive sampling (DS) to show the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach. It is demonstrated that the proposed RBDO approach can efficiently obtain an optimum solution satisfying all the desired probabilistic constraints.

  • A study on the robust control of a composite beam with a distributed PVDF sensor and piezo-ceramic actuator is presented in this paper. $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ natural frequencies are considered in the modeling, because robust control theory which has robustness to structured uncertainty is adopted to suppress the vibration. If the controllers designed by $H_{\infty}$ theory do not satisfy control performance, it is improved by $\mu$-synthesis method with D-K iteration so that the $\mu$-controller based on the structured singular value satisfies the nominal performance and robust performance. Simulation and experiment were carried out with the designed controller and the verification of the robust control properties was presented by results.

  • In this paper, to bring under robust and accurate control of auto-equipment systems which disturbance, parameter alteration of system, uncertainty and so forth exist, neural network controller called dynamic neural processor(DNP) is designed. In order to perform a elaborate task like as assembly, manufacturing and so forth of components, tracking control on the trajectory of power coming in contact with a target as well as tracking control on the movement course trajectory of end-effector is indispensable. Also, the learning architecture to compute inverse kinematic coordinates transformations in the manipulator of auto-equipment systems is developed and the example that DNP can be used is explained. The architecture and learning algorithm of the proposed dynamic neural network, the DNP, are described and computer simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed learning method using the DNP.

  • This study analyzes the causes of increase in temporary workers observed in the recent Korean labor market. In the analysis of sectors with relatively high ratio of temporary workers, the manufacturing sector tends to hire temporary workers in order to raise profitability, while wholesale & retails and construction sectors tend to employ temporary workers due to the fluctuation of product demand. Another possibility is that with the expansion of college graduates, it is likely that temporary jobs are used as a screening device to reduce the uncertainty of workers quality.

  • Characteristics of the motivation and performance of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) adoption in university organization are explored through case studies in this study. Generally, the modules for production, sales, and logistics management in a manufacturing company are substituted with new modules for student support, lecture operations, and research management in ERP for university organization. The motivation of ERP adoption is closely related to the purpose of improvement of business process operations and information system control rather than the environmental factors such as inter-organizational competition or increase of market uncertainty, differentially from enterprises cases. In addition, the financial performance such as cost reduction, labor substitution, and increase of productivity is relatively lower evaluated than the performance on organizational aspects or information system control.

  • Manufacturing environments in the real world are subject to many sources of change and uncertainty, such as new job releases, job cancellations, a chance in the processing time or start time of some operation. Thus, the realistic scheduling method should Properly reflect these dynamic environment. Based on the release times of jobs, JSSP (Job Shoe Scheduling Problem) can be classified as static and dynamic scheduling problem. In this research, we mainly consider the dynamic JSSP with continually arriving jobs. The goal of this research is to develop an efficient scheduling method based on GA (Genetic Algorithm) to address dynamic JSSP. we designed scheduling method based on SGA (Sing1e Genetic Algorithm) and PGA (Parallel Genetic Algorithm) The scheduling method based on GA is extended to address dynamic JSSP. Then, This algorithms are tested for scheduling and rescheduling in dynamic JSSP. The results is compared with dispatching rule. In comparison to dispatching rule, the GA approach produces better scheduling performance.
