  • Health behavior is one component of life style and is defined as behaviors performed by a person to protect, promote, or maintain the their health. General health behavior habits include not smoking, weight management, moderate drinking, regular exercise. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between toothbrushing and general health behaviors in 1,013 adults using data from the 2008 Daejeon Health Promotion Survey. Results showed no significant difference by region in general health behavior and toothbrushing. Smoking, alcohol consumption and toothbrushing frequency were related to sex, age, monthly income, occupation, and the degree of obesity. The predictoers of toothbrushing more than a day by losistic regression were female sex (vs. male, OR 1.88, 95% CI 1.20~2.95), age ${\geq}65$ years (vs. twenties, OR 0.51, 95% CI 0.26~0.99), monthly income 2 miillions Korean Won (KRW) to 3 millions KRW (vs. <2 million won, OR 1.58, 95% CI 1.04~2.42), white collar (vs. self-employment, OR 2.74, 95% CI 1.62~4.64), and regular exercise (vs. never, OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.21~2.11). We recommend the independent administration of oral health promotion programs focusing on aged and vulnerable social group because general health behaviors except regular exercise were not related to toothbrushing frequency.

  • This study was performed to offer basic data base on traditional Korean festival foods for a traditional Korean food data integration system, that is based on literature reviews. The Korean lunar calendar has seasonal divisions reflecting traditional Korean holidays. In the past, there were many customs corresponding to emotions, and foods were in accordance with customs, festivals, and seasons. Today, we are well aware of the traditional Korean foods of New Year's Day(Seollal), the Korean Harvest Festival(Chuseok), the First Full Moon Day(Jeongwol Daeboreum), the Winter Solstice(Dongji), and the hottest summer day(Sambok). However, many other traditional Korean holidays are disappearing from the modem Korean life-style. This study made the following classifications for traditional Korean festivals. Seollal(Seol), Ipchun, and Jeongwol Daeboreum in January; Junghwajeol in February; Samjinnal in March; Hansik and Chopail in April; Dano in May; Yudu and Sambok in June; Chilseok and Baekjung in July; Chuseok in August; Jungyangjeol in September; Siwolmuoil in October; Dongji in November; and Napil and Seotdal Geumeum in December. The familiar traditional Korean festival foods are as follows: Seollal's festival foods consist of 5 main dishes, 35 side dishes, 12 kinds of tteok lyou, 21 kinds of hangwa lyou, 2 kinds of emchong lyou, and 3 kinds classified as others; this includes tteokguk, manduguk, galbijjim, sinseollo, jeon, pyunyuk, kimch, tteok, sikhe, sujunggwa, fruits, and seju on Seollal. The festival foods for Jeongwol Daeboreum consist of 3 main dishes, 27 side dishes, 5 kinds of tteok lyou, 3 kinds of hangwa lyou, 4 kinds of emchung lyou, and 3 kinds classified as others; this includes ogokbap, mugeunnamul, yaksik, yumilkwa, wonsobyung, guibalgisul, and burum on Jeongwol Daeboreum. The festival foods for Sambok consist of 6 main dishes, 18 side dishes, 4 kinds of tteok lyou, 3 kinds of eumchung lyou, and 2 kinds classified as others; this includes yukgaejang, imjasutang, youngyejjim, tteoksudan, santtalgihwaschae, and subak on Sambok. Chuseok's festival foods consist of 4 main dishes, 22 side dishes, 18 kinds of tteok lyou, 6 kinds of hangwa lyou, 4 kinds of eumchung lyou, and 3 kinds classified as others; this includes oryeosongpyeon, toranatang, garijjim, dakjjim, namuls, tteok lyou, baehwachae, and fruits on Chuseok. The festival foods for Dongji consist of 6 main dishes, 6 side dishes, 7 kinds of tteok lyou, 1 kind of hangwa lyou, 2 kinds of eumchung lyou, and 1 kind classified as others; this includes patjug, jeonyak, and dongchimi on Dongji. • This study explored the cognitive characteristics and learning needs of economically disadvantaged gifted students. Gifted students(n=99), economically disadvantaged gifted students(n=43), and non-gifted students(n=50) participated in intelligence and creativity tests, and took self assessments of meta-cognition, epistemological beliefs, learning style preferences, and personal time usage. Superior abstract reasoning ability of economically disadvantaged gifted students was found because their scores on Raven's Test had risen rapidly compared to the other groups. Economically disadvantaged gifted students showed similar high scores as the gifted student on the Torrance Tests of Creativity Thinking-Figural, but not on Verbal. They were found to have a perception of the positive relationships among effort, learning abilities, and values of learning integrated knowledge with a general plan. However, they showed lower meta-cognitive control abilities than the gifted students in learning management and strategies, epistemological beliefs in value of rational operations, and time usage for learning. It is necessary to assign economically disadvantaged gifted students a task with various step by step methods of approach because these students prefer a new and creative task to difficult ones. Instruction plans such as developing language and meta-cognitive abilities and practical application of learning content was proposed.

  • In order to evaluate the microbial safety of the foodstuffs and manus in regards to foodservice operations, the total of 1,051 samples of drinking waters, vegetables, and cooked foods were collected. Total viable count (TVC), coliform group, and pathogens were analyzed. Twenty five percent samples of 441 drinking waters showed high contamination of above 2 log CFU/g TVC. Twenty percent of the waters were contaminated by above one log CFU/g coliform. Forty percent of non-heated food, Moochim, were contaminated by above 5 log CFU/g TVC and 26% of Moochim were contaminated by above 2 log CFU/g coliform. Bacillus cereus and Eschericia coli were detected on boiled rice and kimchi, and B. cereus was detected with a high ratio. Therefore, the foodstuffs and manus regarding foodservice operations appear to be generally safe. However, efficient microbial control for drinking water and Moochim-style food is necessary and in particular, careful management to reduce microbial contamination should be applied to drinking water.

  • This paper describes an EEG(electroencephalogram) software for two-channel cerebral function monitoring system to detect the cerebral ischemia. In the software, two-channel bipolar analog EEG signals are digitized and from the signals various EEG parameters are extracted and displayed on a monitor in real-time. Digitized EEG signal is transformed by FFT(Fast Fourier transform) and represented as CSA(compressed spectral array) and DSA(density spectral array). Additional 5 parameters, such as alpha ratio, percent delta, spectral edge frequency, total power, and difference in total power, are estimated using the FFT spectra. All of these are effectively merged in a monitor and displayed in real-time. Through animal experiments and clinical trials on men, the software is modified and enhanced. Since the software provides raw EEG, CSA, DSA, simultaneously with additional 5 parameters in a monitor, it is possible to observe patients multilaterally. For easy comparison of patient's status, reference patterns of CSA, DSA can be captured and displayed on top of the monitor. And user can mark events of surgical operation and patient's conditions on the software, this allow him jump to the points of events directly, when reviewing the recorded EEG file afterwards. Other functions, such as forward/backward jump, gain control, file management are equipped and these are operated by simple mouse click. Clinical tests in a university hospital show that the software responds accurately according to the conditions of patients and medical doctors can use the software easily.

  • Recently there have been various research activities regarding Korean traditional aesthetics. However, those researches were mainly conducted individually, partially, and periodically, which resulted in unsystematic and incomprehensive works. Therefore, it is required to orginze all the precedent research works with more systematic and objective framework. Generally speaking, all the human activities including aesthetic activity have ends, procedure and means. In other words, human being needs three key elements for realizing any thought and those three elements include contents, formal, and practical element. Element of contents is ultimate goal to accomplish as value, concept, and meaning of thought with their aims. Formal element includes methods, principles, norms, procedure, formality and style comprising of thought in order to accomplish the goal. Finally, practical element refers to specific means, tool, media, material and techniques to concretize the contents through form. Almost all of thoughts and meaning which human being tries to express consist of language. Major elements in sentence include 'subject (omissible)' , 'objects (aim)', 'predicate (formality)', 'complement (means)' and they are composed systematically and hierarchically with rules in sentence. The study compared human activity model with language structure and analyzed their implication with design (aesthetics), which made it possible to propose analytic frameworks for traditional aesthetics. In addition, the study also systematically organized the way to realize traditional aesthetic value in the present context based on the methods developed in this study.

  • With the advancement of technology, there are almost no constraints on expression in virtual reality (VR) art; however, it still has some limitations. VR artists can be largely classified into two groups in terms of style. The first group is artists who create their works as a live performance. In this case, a major limitation is that the artist cannot see how the audience reacts to the work because he/she wears a VR device while performing, and the audience cannot fully experience the work, since they view it only on-screen without any VR devices. This problem can be solved if all members of the audience wear VR devices; however, that requires astronomical costs and brings about another problem related to device management. If the price of VR devices decreases as technology develops, it may help solve this problem. The second group is exhibition artists who regularly display their works online. In this case, the limitation is that their work using VR remains only in the virtual digital space. In this case, a solution may be creating space in exhibition halls, and providing VR devices to audience members in existing art exhibitions.

  • Smart phone zombie or Smombie means pedestrians who walk without attention to their surroundings because they are focused upon their smart phone. Because the traffic accidents and injuries caused by Smombie have been increased rapidly in recent years, the social attention and policies are needed to prevent it. This study was conducted to analyze Smombie's current status and some solutions used before and to propose new improved method through the latest ICT trend. In this study, we did the field survey to check Smombies at several places in Seoul through people counting, and found that a lot of pedestrians still use the smart phone while walking. And we analyzed many case studies about some solutions to prevent Smombies previously. The case studies include legal regulations, government policies, smart phone app services and facilities that are used before. We studied them through internet searches and reference studies and we also checked the current operating situation as visiting several places that the solutions actually has been operated. Therefore, we found there are some limitations in previous solutions in terms of effectiveness and management. To consider new solution that can be expected to overcome the limitations, we analyzed the latest ICT trends focused on features to utilize the Smombie prevention, especially video recognition and digital signage. In these days, video recognition has been developed rapidly with assistance of AI technology and it can recognize the specific pedestrian's characteristics such as holding smart phone as well as hair style, clothes, backpack and etc. On the other hands, the digital signage is the convergence device that includes big display, network connection and various IoT sensors. It can be used as public media in many places for public services as well as advertising. Through these analysis results, we show the requirements and the user scenario for the improved method to prevent Smombie. Finally, we propose to develop R&D technology to recognize Smombie exactly as pedestrian attributes and to spread creative contents to increase pedestrian's interest and engagement for Smombie prevention through digital signage.
