Development of field programmable gate array-based encryption module to mitigate man-in-the-middle attack for nuclear power plant data communication network

  • This article presents a security module based on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) to mitigate man-in-the-middle cyber attacks. Nowadays, the FPGA is considered to be the state of the art in nuclear power plants I&C systems due to its flexibility, reconfigurability, and maintainability of the FPGA technology; it also provides acceptable solutions for embedded computing applications that require cybersecurity. The proposed FPGA-based security module is developed to mitigate information-gathering attacks, which can be made by gaining physical access to the network, e.g., a man-in-the-middle attack, using a cryptographic process to ensure data confidentiality and integrity and prevent injecting malware or malicious data into the critical digital assets of a nuclear power plant data communication system. A model-based system engineering approach is applied. System requirements analysis and enhanced function flow block diagrams are created and simulated using CORE9 to compare the performance of the current and developed systems. Hardware description language code for encryption and serial communication is developed using Vivado Design Suite 2017.2 as a programming tool to run the system synthesis and implementation for performance simulation and design verification. Simple windows are developed using Java for physical testing and communication between a personal computer and the FPGA.

Transfer Efficiency of Underwater Optical Wireless Power Transmission Depending on the Operating Wavelength

  • Optical wireless power transmission (OWPT) is a good candidate for long-distance underwater wireless power transmission. In this work we investigate the transmission efficiency of underwater OWPT, depending on the operating wavelength. We consider four operating wavelengths: infrared, red, green, and blue. We also consider the cases of pure water and sea water for the working conditions. Our results show that it is necessary to select the operating wavelength of underwater OWPT according to the transmission distance and water type of the target application.

  • Power IT is very important infrastructure in the country. In general, Power IT is disclosed to cyber attacks. To enhance cyber security in Power IT area, first of all, vulnerability in the area should be defined.   • Power transactions are considered as noncooperative game in that participants compete each other to win the bidding game, and as cooperative game in that they have to cooperate to apply the result of bidding game to the physically interconnected power system. This paper applies both noncooperative and cooperative game theories in analyzing the entire process of power transaction.

  • In this paper, we propose context-aware based on Low Power Sensing Algorithm. The proposed sensing algorithm reduces power consumptions using low-power sensing algorithms and low-power sensing protocols. Experimental results show that the average power consumption of the proposed method is up to half consumption that of the conventional method.

  • Transmission networks play an important role which transfer generated electric power to a consumer in power system operation. In a competitive environment of electric power industry, developing the technological criterions and methodologies on transmission planning is becoming new challenge to transmission system planner. The use of a locational signal and the provision of a indicative plan to control the transmission investment reasonably is very important in the viewpoint of a regulator. The main target of this study is to develop a systematic criterion of transmission expansion planning. And system congestion cost is considered. The proposed methodology was demonstrated with several case studies.

전족과 코르셋에 표현된 몸의 억압에 대한 의미해석 (A Study on Repression of the Female Body as Expressed by Chinese Foot-binding and the Western Corset)

  • In this study, repression of the body is defined as a restriction on natural developments or movements and a modification either temporarily or permanently of the human body in shape, color, texture and odor. In addition, it involves physical and (or) mental pain. Chinese foot-binding and the Western corset are extreme examples of female body's being repressed in the history of fashion. The analysis of this type of repression will be based on historical research and theoretical concepts such as Darwin's (1809-1882) survival condition, Freud's (1856-1939) renunciation of desire, Weil's (1909-1943) privilege, and Foucault's (1926-1984) L'Usage des Plaisirs(the use of pleasure). Chinese foot-binding symbolically represents ideal beauty, the distinction of an ethnic group, and a desire for improved social status in the struggle for political power. It also represents psychology and a esthetics of eroticism and fetishism that originate from a man's desire and his individual taste. Symbolically, the Western corset represents abundance and fecundity, obedience and devotion to religion, the sanctity of God and ideal beauty as defined by political power. It also represents psychology and aesthetics of eroticism and fetishism as man's desire and a fashion icon. In conclusion, Chinese foot-binding was pursuit of power in male ideology but Western corset was a power struggle between God and mankind.

  • In accordance with increase, if electronic power demanded, more efficient supervisory control of distribution system will be required. This study contains development of MMI(man-machine-interface) system with GUI(graphic-user-interface), for the automatic power distribution system. The main function of MMI system is to edit network of power distribution and to management of data base for network. The GUI function of MMI system enables more efficient management of power distribution system.

중합도별 gum류 가수분해 올리고당과 urea관련화합물과의 반응혼합물이 항산화능에 미치는 영향 (Antioxidant Action of Reaction Mixtures of Gums Hydrolysates and Urea Derivatives)

  • $100^{\circ}C$에서 반응시켜 2, 4, 6, 8시간의 갈변도 변화는 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 urea의 반응혼합물이 시간의 경과함에 따라 강한 착색도의 증가를 나타냈으나 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 착색속도가 늦었다. 같은 조건하에서 $Gal^3Man_4$와 urea 관련화합물의 각 반응혼합물의 갈변도를 나타낸 것으로 urea가 강한 착색도의 중가를 보였고 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 비교적 높은 착색도를 보였다. DP 7의 galactosyl mannooligosaccharide와의 각 반응혼합물의 갈변도는 urea의 반응액이 강한 착색을 보였으며 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액의 순으로 착색를 나타내었다. 반응혼합물의 TLC 결과에서 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 urea의 반응혼합물 이외에 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 새로운 화합물이 생성되었고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 D.P 7 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와의 반응혼합물에서는 모든 반응액에서 새로운 화합물이 출현되었다. 반응혼합물의 환원력은 urea관련화합물 중에서 특히 phenylthiourea, thiourea가 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose,\;Gal^3Man_4$, DP 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와의 반응혼합물에서 강한 환원력이 나타났다. Linoleic acid에 대한 반응혼합물의 항산화력 측정에서 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 thiourea의 반응혼합물의 항산화력이 Ascorbic acid(AsA)수준의 항산화력을 나타내었고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물은 AsA와 유사한 항산화능을 나타내었다. DP 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물의 항산화력은 AsA에 미치지는 못하였다. ${\beta}-1,4-Mannobiose$와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물이 강한 전자공여능을 나타내고 있고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물 및 D.P 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와 phenylthiourea와의 반응혼합물이 전자공여능을 나타내고 있다.
