Paragonomiasis is a common trematodiasis of medical importance and one of public health. problems in many araes af southern part of Korea. Authars carried out the survey for human paragonimiasis in Ung Chi Myun, Bo Sung Gun during 1968 to 1979 by the use of intradermal screening test with veronal buffered saline antigens. In 1968 and 1978, inhabitants of all age groups in Ung Chi Myun were examined. In 1979, 1, 119 consisting of primary school children and middle school students in Ung Chi Myun and 521 high school students in Beol Gyo Eup were examined. The following results were obtained in this survey. 1) In 1968, 136 inhabitants were showed 61.0% positive reaction (66.3% in male, 53.6% in female). The positive rates were similar in each age groups. 2) In 1978, 207 Inhabitants were showed 32.9% positive reaction (36.3% in male, 29.4% in female). The positive rate was shown as high as 30% in the age groups of over 10 years old. 3) In 1979, primary school children and middle school students in Ung Chi Myun were showed 15.8% positive reaction and high school students in Beol Gyo Eup were showed 6.9% positive reaction.
The clinical experience of 2,340 inguinal hernia repaired by one pediatric surgeon on 2,079 children at Hanyang University Hospital from September 1979 to December 1993 was analyzed. Of 2,046 patients who had primary hernia repairs at Hanyang University Hospital, 1,636 were male and 410 female, and 55.5% of hernias occurred on the right side, 36.0% on the left, and 8.6% were bilateral. The patients presented hernia under the age of 12 months were 45.3% and those performed herniotomy under the age of 12 months were 25.5%. Birth weight was less than 2.5kg in 111 patients(8.7%) of 1,279 data available patients. Ninety(6.6%) of 1,354 data available patients were premature(<37wks gestation). The proportions of bilateral inguinal hernia and the onset age under 12 months of life in low birth weight babies and premature babies were higher than in full-term babies. Incarcerated inguinal hernia occurred in 327 patients(16.0%) of whom 8 patients were strangulated hernias. The occurrence of incarceration inversely related with age of patients. The subsequent contralateral inguinal hernia following unilateral hernia repairs occurred in 80 patients(4.3%) among which 72 were male and 8 were female. The incidence of contralateral inguinal hernia was more frequent in boys(4.8%) than girls (2.2%) and in cases after left herniotomy(6.4%) than after right herniotomy(2.9%). Sixty percent of contralateral inguinal hernia developed within 1 year after primary hernia repair. The recurrence of inguinal hernia occurred in 6 patients(0.27%) treated at our hospital primarily. There were one or more associated congenital anomalies in 83 patients of which congenital heart diseases were the most common. Sliding hernia occurred in 25 patients consisted of 5 boys and 20 girls. Family history was noted in 35 patients and there were 28 sets of monozygotic and 3 sets of dizygotic twins.

The aim of this study has been to investigate the growth of the pharynx and sexual differences in the lateral cephalograms of Korean children. The material includes 173 cepalograms from two groups composed of 51 males aged 12.0 years and 39 females aged 12.2 years in group 2, and 45 males aged 7.4 years and 39 females aged 7.5 year in group 1, respectively. In order to study and measure the pharyngeal area the following skeletal landmarks were selected: S, N, A, Ptm, B, H, H', M, S-N, FH and CV, and the angle CV-FH was measured to provide a factor for correction of error resulting from improper head positioning of subjects, especially in relative positions of A and H, while radiography. For each variable the statistically treated data have been presented in the table Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ. The main results are presented as follows: 1. In general, the measurements of male were larger than those of female in antero-posterior dimension of pharyngeal cavity, but all variables did not show significant sexual differences in both groups when evaluated statistically. 2. All of the measurements were larger in male than in female in vertical dimensions of pharyngeal cavity in group 2, and there were statistical significances of sexual differences in the variables except M-H', but all variables did not show significant sexual differences in group 1 when evaluated statistically. 3. The dimensional increase of the pharynx by the growth in the vertical dimensions was shown to be greater than in the antero-posterior dimensions in the both sexes.
This research involved a survey on the dietary patterns of children and adolescents living in group homes, to find out their wrong eating habits and to devise measures for correcting their problems. The BMIs of the subject children and adolescents in group homes were measured, and the result showed that although many of them appeared to have normal weights, about 42.2% were actually underweight. Most of them had meals regularly, three times a day at fixed times. However, half of them frequently skipped breakfast because of the lack of time in the morning. In addition, more than half of them had the habit of having imbalanced diets, especially with low vegetable intake. The score for their satisfaction toward meals at group homes were highest (3.97) with the taste of food, while it was relatively lower (3.61) with the variety of food than with the other items. The average score for their snack intake was 3.47, showing that the majority of them had the habit of eating snacks, while the largest portion (26.0%) of them preferred bread and cookies. According to the result of the analysis on their food intake, overall calorie intake was about 82~96% of estimated energy requirements, while that of the male subjects aged 12 or older was about 82% of the standard energy requirements. Their overall intake of calcium and potassium was lower than recommended nutrition intake, but sodium intake was higher than 3 times recommended intake. Especially, in addition to calcium and potassium, the male subjects aged 15 or older showed low intake of dietary fiber, iron, zinc, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin C and folate also; whereas the female subjects aged 15 or older showed low intake of iron, zinc, riboflavin and folate also. Taken together, it was concluded that government level of dietary life-related support and management would be necessary for the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents in group homes.
A clinical observation by the tongue change as a diagnostic method was made on 36 week children visited to Dongeui Oriental Medical Hospital from August. 2001 to December 2001 and the observed results were summarized as follows. 1. Their symptoms have been observed with sequences of Resparatory diseases, Digestive, Neuromotor, Psycho-neurological, Urogenital diseases 2. Distribution of sex : male 22 cases, female 14 cases 3. Distribution of age : 0-6 years 24 cases, 7-18 years 12 cases 4. The texture of tongue was resulted in tongue color in pink-28 cases, red-8 case, and shape in thin-18 cases, swelling-6 cases, a fissured patten-5 cases, a prickly patten-4 cases, and a map patten-3 cases, and fur of the tongue in thin-26 cases, moisten-8 cases, deep-2 cases, and coating color of the tongue in thin and whitish-15 cases, thin and yellowish-9 cases, lack-8 cases, deep and whitish-4 cases. 5. The texture of tongue in connection with weak children was come out mostly normal state and the rest red color, a fissured patten, a prickly patten, deep coating, thin and yellowish etc appeared to cause of slight damage due to exogenous pathogenic fators and due to internal injury.
To study the factors related to childhood obesity, 75 subjects were selected as an obese group and 75 subjects were selected as a control group according to their obesity index and BMI among the 583 children of 5th and 6th grade in elementary school in Seoul. For each subject, skinfold thickness was measured, information on the characteristics of family, nutrient intake and activity time of the subjects were obtained by questionnarie. The results were summarized as following: 1) Parents' obesity indices of obese group were significantly higher than those of control group(Father's Obesity Index : P<0.01, Mother's Obesity Index : P<0.05). 2) Questions about eating rate and behavior showed that subjects in obese group were significantly faster in their eating rate(p<0.05) and always more eager to eat food(p<0.001) compared to control group. 3) Dietary intake data showed that average daily intake of all the nutrients exceeded Korean recommended dietary allowances for the age group. In female children, fat intakes of obese group were significantly higher than control group(P<0.05). There was no such significant difference in male subjects. 4) Activity time record of subjects reveal that there was a trend for males to spend more time in moderate and high activity and less time in light activity compared to females. Subjects in obese group spent significantly more time for light activity(P<0.001) and significantly less time for moderate activity (P<0.001) compared to subjects in control group. The difference of activity was more pronounced in male subjects. 5) Correlation matrix of the variables showed that obesity index, BMI, and skinfold thickness of the subjects were highly correlated with each other. These indices were positively correlated to parent's obesity indices and the time spent for light activity, but negatively correlated to the time spent for moderate activity. Nutrient intakes were not significantly correlated to obesity indices. Form the results shown above, although both obese and control groups are from high socioeconomic class, obese children tended to come from family with fat parents. They eat fast and are always eager to eat. They tend to eat more fat but are very different from controls in nutrient intake. Obese children are significantly lower in their actinity compared to controls. So, for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, it seems to be more important to increase their activity levels.
This study investigated developmental change with reference to continuity theory in the acquisition of concepts of kin relation, task difficulty with reference to cognitive complexity, and interrelationships in the performance of cognitive tasks of kinship concepts with reference to cognitive parallelism. The subjects consisted of 6-, 8-, 10, and 12-year-old randomly selected children attending kindergartens or elementary schools in Seoul. The schools were located in various residental areas regarded as either middle or lower class. The 81 boys and 80 girls participated in 3 experiments on classification, seriation, and grouping. The instrument for the classification, seriation, and grouping tasks was composed of 10 10cm black on white line drawings of the head and upper torso area of persons in kin relationship. The data was analyzed with MANOVA. A significant age effect was found in the 3 quasi- experiments. There were significant effects on task difficulty. The biosocial power distribution indirectly influenced children's acquisition of kin relational concepts; that is, children performed better in male-kin than in female-kin tasks. There was a high correlation in performance between the 3 cognitive tasks. These findings support the continuity theory (except for seriation), a model which arranges kin-names in order of cognitive load, the centric status of men in society, and the theory of cognitive developmental parallelism.

The purpose of this study was to finding out the relationship between the tooth calcification and eruption of the mandibular permanent teeth in Korean. This study was undertaken in 592 children at ages from 3 to 13 years who had good oral condition by means of panoramic roentgenographic analysis. The following results were obtained. 1. The mean ages of crown completion were as follows; Canine 1st. Premolar 2nd. Premolar 1st. Molar Male 6yrs. 4mos. 6yrs. 8mos. 7yrs. 6mos. 7yrs. 6mos. Female 5yrs. 11mos. 6yrs. 5mos. 7yrs. 2mos. 3yrs. 3mos. 2. Each tooth started to move toward occlusion at approximately stage 6 or after crown completion. 3. The highest increment in eruption rate was at about 1/3~1/2 completion of root and ages at 10-11 years in male, 9-10 years in female. 4. Eruption period of both sexes were as follows; Canine: 6-12years 1st. Premolar: 7-12 years 2nd. Premolar: 7-13 years 1st. Molar: 3-7 years 5. The eruption was completed before the root completion. 6. The sequence of eruption and calcification was 1st. Molar-Canine-1st. Premolar-2nd. Premolar in both sexes.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between partner violence and depression in the elderly. This secondary analysis study used the data from 2015 Korean Welfare Panel Study. A total of 2,819 older adults who completed the survey about demographic characteristics, health-related characteristics, satisfaction in the relationship with children, satisfaction in social relationship, partner violence, and depression. Data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0 by using descriptive analyses, independent t-tests, $x^2$-tests, bivariate logistic regressions, and hierarchical logistic regressions. In the results of hierarchical logistic regressions, after controlled demographic and health related characteristics, satisfaction in the relationship with children, and satisfaction in social relationship, partner violence was significantly associated with depression in both male and female older people. In conclusion, it is important to make a prevention program to reduce partner violence and depression for not only female but also male older adults.
