Purpose: We subjected scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images of the active layer of EBT3 film to texture analysis to determine the dose-response curve. Methods: Uncoated Gafchromic EBT3 films were prepared for direct surface SEM scanning. Absorbed doses of 0-20 Gy were delivered to the film's surface using a 6 MV TrueBeam STx photon beam. The film's surface was scanned using a SEM under 100× and 3,000× magnification. Four textural features (Homogeneity, Correlation, Contrast, and Energy) were calculated based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) using the SEM images corresponding to each dose. We used R-square to evaluate the linear relationship between delivered doses and textural features of the film's surface. Results: Correlation resulted in higher linearity and dose-response curve sensitivity than Homogeneity, Contrast, or Energy. The R-square value was 0.964 for correlation using 3,000× magnified SEM images with 9-pixel offsets. Dose verification was used to determine the difference between the prescribed and measured doses for 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 Gy as 0.09, 1.96, -2.29, 0.17, and 0.08 Gy, respectively. Conclusions: Texture analysis can be used to accurately convert microscopic structural changes to the EBT3 film's surface into absorbed doses. Our proposed method is feasible and may improve the accuracy of film dosimetry used to protect patients from excess radiation exposure.

The pitch and orthogonality of two-dimensional (2D) gratings have been measured by using a metrological atomic force microscope (MAFM) and measurement uncertainty has been analyzed. Gratings are typical standard artifacts for the calibration of precision microscopes. Since the magnification and orthogonality in two perpendicular axes of microscopes can be calibrated simultaneously using 2D gratings, it is important to certify the pitch and orthogonality of 2D gratings accurately for nano-metrology using precision microscopes. In the measurement of 2D gratings, the MAFM can be used effectively for its nanometric resolution and uncertainty, but a new measurement scheme was required to overcome some limitations of current MAFM such as nonnegligible thermal drift and slow scan speed. Two kinds of 2D gratings, each with the nominal pitch of 300 nm and 1000 nm, were measured using line scans for the pitch measurement of each direction. The expanded uncertainties (k = 2) of measured pitch values were less than 0.2 nm and 0.4 nm for each specimen, and those of measured orthogonality were less than 0.09 degree and 0.05 degree respectively. The experimental results measured using the MAFM and optical diffractometer were coincident with each other within the expanded uncertainty of the MAFM. As a future work, we also proposed another scheme for the measurements of 2D gratings to increase the accuracy of calculated peak positions.

The purpose of this study is to improve the availabilities of radiographic technics as diagnostic method related to mandibular canal in dental clinic. For this study 12 dry mandibles were used and 12 orthopantomograms were taken for measuring the gonial angle and the angle of mandibular canal to inferior border of mandible. 12 sites located between the 1st premolar to the 3rd molar region of 3dry mandibles were selected randomly, for measuring the vertical image magnification rates on three films; intraoral film, orthopantomogram, and computed tomogram, respectively and the thickness of cortical bone, and for observing bucco-lingually and supero-inferiorly location of the mandibular canal. The acquired results were as follows: 1. The means of the gonial angle and the angle of mandibular canal to inferior border of mandible were 123.9° and 143.5° And the two angles of dry mandible in alveolar crest stage were greater than in alveolar socket stage. 2. The vertical image length on intraoral film by paralleling technic was magnified by 3.07% on the average, the length on orthopantomogram by 18.49%, and the length on computed tomogram by 0.27%. 3. Observation of the bucco-lingually positional relationship of the mandibular canal was impossible by occlusal projection with the cross section technic and intraoral standard projection with the Clack's rule, however, possible by computed tomogram. 4. The thickness of the cortical bone of mandible was thickest in inferior border, and thicker by 6.59% at buccal side than at lingual side.

The purpose of this study is to improve the availabilities of radiographic technics as diagnostic methods to evaluate maxillary sinus in dental clinic. For the morphologic study of maxillary sinus, 20 dry maxillas were used and intraoral standard views, orthopantomograms, and skull P-A views were taken. For measuring the vertical image magnification rates, 5 sites in maxillary molar regions of 5 dry mandibles were selected radndomly and 25 wires of the determined sizes for selected portions were attached to the sites, after then, intraoral radiograms with bisecting technic and orthopantomograms were taken. The acquired results were as follows: 1. The anterior extension of the maxillary sinus on orthopantomogram was the distal side of the canine in 45.45% of subjects, the mesial side of the canine in 27.27%, the lateral incisor in 9.09%, the mesial side of the 1st premolar in 9.09%, and the mesial side of the 2nd pre-molar in 9.09%. 2. The positional relationship between the floor of maxillary sinus and the apex of alveolar socket revealed superimposed type in 58.3% of subjects, approached type in 33.3%, and separated type in 8.4%. 3. The morphology of inferior border of maxillary sinus was simple V or U shape in edentulous stage and V or wide U shape in alveolar socket stage. 4. The vertical image length on intraoral film taken by bisecting technic was magnified by 27.23% on the average and the length on orthopantomogram by 12.35%. 5. The inferior borders of maxillary sinus coinciding with each of the areas bearing the anterior and the posterior teeth on skull P-A view were determined.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the apical foramen morphology and the length of merged canal at the apex in type II root canal system. Materials and Methods: This study included intact extracted maxillary and mandibular human premolars (n = 20) with fully formed roots without any visible signs of external resorption. The root segments were obtained by removing the crown 1 mm beneath the cementum-enamel junction (CEJ) using a rotary diamond disk. The distance between the file tip and merged point of joining two canals was defined as Lj. The roots were carefully sectioned at 1 mm from the apex by a slow-speed water-cooled diamond saw. All cross sections were examined under the microscope at ${\times}50$ magnification and photographed to estimate the shape of the apical foramen. The longest and the shortest diameter of apical foramen was measured using ImageJ program (1.44p, National Institutes of Health). Correlation coefficient was calculated to identify the link between Lj and the apical foramen shape by Pearson's correlation. Results: The average value of Lj was 3.74 mm. The average of proportion (P), estimated by dividing the longest diameter into the shortest diameter of the apical foramen, was 3.64. This study showed a significant negative correlation between P and Lj (p < 0.05). Conclusions: As Lj gets longer, the apical foramen becomes more ovally shaped. Likewise, as it gets shorter, the apical foramen becomes more flat shaped.
After clinical and laboratory tests of a 12-year-old warmblood horse (castrated male, 540 kg) displaying symptom of pain, a diagnosis of intestinal obstruction due to foreign substances like sand was made and an abdominal section and enterotomy were conducted to confirm and extract the intestinal stone (enterolith) on the right dorsal part of the ascending colon. The extracted intestinal stone was around 2.9 kg and greenish brown rugby ball sized ($22cm{\times}10cm$) stone. Analysis of the element components (EDX) using a scanning electron microscope revealed percentages of C (30.08%), O (39.85%), Mg (3.89%), P (11.15%), and Ca (11.16%) at a magnification of 400. This was the first example of a successful extraction and treatment of intestinal stone in a horse domestically and thereby has its significance.
The lever-type active multiple tuned mass dampers (LT-AMTMD), consisting of several lever-type active tuned mass dampers (LT-ATMD), is proposed in this paper to attenuate the vibrations of long-span bridges under the excitation directly acting on the structure, rather than through the base. With resorting to the derived analytical-expressions for the dynamic magnification factors of the LT-AMTMD structure system, the performance assessment then is conducted on the LT-AMTMD with the identical stiffness and damping coefficient but unequal mass. Numerical results indicate that the LT-AMTMD with the actuator set at the mass block can provide better effectiveness in reducing the vibrations of long-span bridges compared to the LT-AMTMD with the actuator set at other locations. An appealing feature of the LT-AMTMD with the actuator set at the mass block is that the static stretching of the spring may be freely adjusted in accordance with the practical requirements through changing the location of the support within the viable range while maintaining the same performance (including the same stroke displacement). Likewise, it is shown that the LT-AMTMD with the actuator set at the mass block can further ameliorate the performance of the lever-type multiple tuned mass dampers (LT-MTMD) and has higher effectiveness than a single lever-type active tuned mass damper (LT-ATMD). Therefore, the LT-AMTMD with the actuator set at the mass block may be a better means of suppressing the vibrations of long-span bridges with the consequence of not requiring the large static stretching of the spring and possessing a desirable robustness.
Purpose: This study is intended to improve the performance of traffic signs corroded by aging, to ensure maintenance efficiency, a water-hardened coating solution was developed. Performance tests were then used to determine the optimal component scale. Method: For research purposes, the results were analyzed by conducting corrosion resistance assessment, physical properties evaluation, storage safety assessment, etc. on coating solutions of various magnifications. Results: The analysis results showed that there was little hearing in the cutting area in the liquid with added magnesium, so the method effect was excellent. And there was little blister occurrence, which was analyzed at the highest magnification. Conclusion: Enhancements to future new component scale experiments are needed for water-hardened coating solutions that have been recognized for their performance through this study. And institutional improvement efforts are needed to expand the enforcement of traffic sign maintenance using coating solutions.
The aim of this study is to compare the adaptability of thermoplasticized injectable gutta-percha technique to the canal walls in ribbon-shaped canals. Thirty resin models simulated ribbon-shape canals were instrumented to #40 using .06 taper Profile systems. Three groups of each 10 resin models were obturated by the lateral condensation technique(LC) and the two thermoplasticized injectable gutta-percha technique; Ultrafil Endoset+Obtura II(EO) and Ultrafil Firmset(UF), respectively. After resin model were kept at room temperature for 4 days, they were resected horizontally with micro-tome at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5mm levels from apex. At each levels. image of resected surface were taken using CCD camera under a stereomicroscope at $\times$40 magnification and stored. Ratio of the area of gutta-percha was obtained by calculating area of gutta-percha cone to the total area of canal using digitized image-ana-Iyzing program. The data were collected then analyzed statistically using One-way ANOVA. The results were as follows. 1 At 1mm levels, there was no statistically significant difference in the mean ratio of gutta-percha among the groups. 2. At 2mm level, EO showed the highest mean ratio of gutta-percha (p<0.05) and there was no significant difference between LC and UF. 3. At 3, 4, 5mm levels, EO and UF had significantly greater mean ratio of gutta-percha than LC(p<0.05) and there was no significant difference between EO and UF. In conclusion, the thermoplasticized injectable gutta-percha techniques demonstrated relatively favorable adaptability to canal walls than lateral condensation technique in ribbon-shaped canals except for 1mm level.

We measured the pitch of one-dimensional (ID) grating specimens using a metrological atomic force microscope (M-AFM). The ID grating specimens a.e often used as a magnification standard in nano-metrology, such as scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thus, we need to certify the pitch of grating specimens fur the meter-traceability in nano-metrology. To this end, an M-AFM was setup at KRISS. The M-AFM consists of a commercial AFM head module, a two-axis flexure hinge type nanoscanner with built-in capacitive sensors, and a two-axis heterodyne interferometer to establish the meter-traceability directly. Two kinds of ID grating specimens, each with the nominal pitch of 288 nm and 700 nm, were measured. The uncertainty in pitch measurement was evaluated according to Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. The pitch was calculated from 9 line scan profiles obtained at different positions with 100 ㎛ scan range. The expanded uncertainties (k = 2) in pitch measurement were 0.10 nm and 0.30 nm for the specimens with the nominal pitch of 288 nm and 700 nm. The measured pitch values were compared with those obtained using an optical diffractometer, and agreed within the range of the expanded uncertainty of pitch measurement. We also discussed the effect of averaging in the measurement of mean pitch using M-AFM and main components of uncertainty.
