The Scanora/sup (R)/ X-ray unit uses the principles of narrow beam radiography and spiral tomography. Starting with a panoramic overview as a scout image. multiple tomographic projections could be selected. This study evaluated the accuracy of spiral tomography in comparison to routine panoramic radiography for dental implant treatment planning. An experimental study was performed on a cadaver mandible to assess the accuracy of panoramic radiography and spiral tomography film images for measurement of metallic spheres. After radiographic images of the metallic spheres on the surgical stent were measured and corrected for a fixed magnification of radiographic images. following results were obtained. 1. In the optimal position of the mandible. the minimal horizontal and vertical distortion was evident in the panoramic radiography images. The mean horizontal and vertical magnification error in anterior sites was 5.25% and 0.75%. respectively. The mean horizontal and vertical magnification error in posterior sites was 0.50% and 1.50%. respectively. 2. In the displaced forward or in an eccentric position of the mandible. the magnification error of the panoramic radiography images increased significantly over the optimal position. Overall, the mean horizontal magnification error of the anterior site in the different positions changed dramatically within a range of -17.25% to 39.00%, compared to the posterior range of -5.25% to 8.50%. However, the mean vertical magnification error stayed with the range of 0.5% to 3.75% for all the mandibular positions. 3. The magnification effects in the tomographic scans were nearly identical for the anterior and posterior with a range of 2.00% to 5.75% in the horizontal and 4.50% to 5.50% in the vertical dimension, respectively. 4. A statistically significant difference between the anterior and posterior measurements was found in the horizontal measurements of the panoramic radiography images of the displaced forward and backward position of the mandible(P<0.05). Also a significant difference between the optimal panoramic and tomographic projections was found only in the vertical measurement(P<0.05).

Microscopy has enabled the development of many advanced technologies, and higher level microscopic techniques are required according to the increase of research in nano-technology and bio-technology fields. Therefore, in many applications, we need to measure the dimension of micro-scale parts accurately, not just to observe their shapes. To establish the meter-traceability in microscopy, gratings have been widely used as a magnification standard. KRISS provides the certification service of magnification standards using an optical diffractometer and a metrological AFM (MAFM). They are based on different measurement principles, and so can give complementary information for each other. In this paper, we describe the configuration of each system and measurement procedures to certificate grating pitch values of magnification standards. Several measurement results are presented, and the discussion about them are also given. Using the optical diffractometer, we can calibrate a grating specimen with uncertainty of less than 50 pm. The MAFM can measure a grating specimen of down to 100 nm pitch value, and the calibrated values usually have uncertainty less than 500 pm.
In digital mammography, Exposure factor were automatically chosen using by measurement breast thickness and the density of mammary gland. It may cause a increase glandular dose. The purpose of this study was to investigate optimal image quality in digital magnification mammography to decrease radiation exposure of patient dose. Auto mode gives the best image quality however, AGD showed better image quality. Image quality of manual mode passed phantom test and SNR at 55% mAs of auto mode commonly used in the digital magnification mammography. Also it could reduce AGD. According to result, manual mode may reduce the unnecessary radiation exposure in digital magnification mammography.

The most commonly used techniques for image magnification are interpolation based. However, the magnified images produced by this technique often appear blocking and blurring phenomenon when the image is enlarged. In this paper, we enhanced image magnification algorithm using edge information. The proposed algorithm not used interpolation based but by using sub-band of input image in extrapolation. According to mapping relationship in pyramid, we calculated up-band information to magnify. In experiments, the proposed model shows solved the problem of image loss like the blocking and blurring phenomenon. As the result, it is faster and higher resolution than traditional magnification algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a computational integral imaging reconstruction (CIIR) method based on scale-cariant magnification technique for resolution-enhanced 3D images. First, we introduce an interference problem among elemental images in CIIR. Magnification by a large factor causes inference among elemental images when they are applied to the superposition process. Thus, the resolution of reconstructed images is limited. To overcome the interference problem, we propose a method to calculate a minimum magnification factor while CIIR is still valid. Magnification by a new factor enables the Proposed method to reconstruct resolution-enhanced images. In addition, the computational load of the proposed method is less than that of the previous method. To confirm the feasibility of the proposed method, some experiments are carried out and the results are presented.

The magnification technique has recently become popular in bone radiography, mammography and other diagnostic examination. However, because of the finite size of X-ray focal spot, the magnification influences various imaging properties with resolution, noise and contrast. The purpose of study is to investigate the influence of magnification and focal spot size on digital imaging system using eDQE (effective detective quantum efficiency). Effective DQE is a metric reflecting overall system response including focal spot blur, magnification, scatter and grid response. The adult chest phantom employed in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was used to derive eDQE from eMTF (effective modulation transfer function), eNPS (effective noise power spectrum), scatter fraction and transmission fraction. According to results, spatial frequencies that eMTF is 10% with the magnification factor of 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 are 2.76, 2.21, 1.78, 1.49 and 1.26 lp/mm respectively using small focal spot. The spatial frequencies that eMTF is 10% with the magnification factor of 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 are 2.21, 1.66, 1.25, 0.93 and 0.73 lp/mm respectively using large focal spot. The eMTFs and eDQEs decreases with increasing magnification factor. Although there are no significant differences with focal spot size on eDQE (0), the eDQEs drops more sharply with large focal spot than small focal spot. The magnification imaging can enlarge the small size lesion and improve the contrast due to decrease of effective noise and scatter with air-gap effect. The enlargement of the image size can be helpful for visual detection of small image. However, focal spot blurring caused by finite size of focal spot shows more significant impact on spatial resolution than the improvement of other metrics resulted by magnification effect. Based on these results, appropriate magnification factor and focal spot size should be established to perform magnification imaging with digital radiography system.

Generally, the still image magnification uses .image growing, interpolation in order to get magnificated image. Still image Magnification does not get high-resolution image because, amount of information is not sufficient. In this thesis, we proposed the enhance method of high resolution image magnification. Result of apply proposed method to Lena image, we gained result of enhancement more better than formerly simple technique.

The purpose of this study is to obtain the horizontal magnification rate of orthopantomography. The subjects were consisted of 30 Korean adults who had Angle's classification I occlusion by using measuring wire set On the incisal edges of anterior teeth and the occlusal surfaces of premolars and molars along the dental arch. The results are as follows; 1. The average rate of total magnification was 115%. 2. The average rates of local magnification were the anterior teeth region was 90%, the canine region was 96%, the premolar region was 104%, the 1st molar region was 117% and the 2nd molar region was 124%.
Nondestructive testing, which can monitor a product's interior without disassembly, is becoming increasingly essential for industrial inspection. Computed laminography (CL) is widely used in this application, as it can reconstruct a product, such as a printed circuit board, into a three-dimensional (3D) high-magnification image using X-rays. However, such high-magnification scanning environments can be affected by minute vibrations of the CL device, which can generate motion artifacts in the 3D reconstructed image. Since such vibrations are irregular, geometric corrections must be performed at every scan. In this paper, we propose a geometry calibration method that can correct the geometric information of CL scans based on the image without using geometry calibration phantoms. The proposed method compares the projection and digitally reconstructed radiography images to measure the geometric error. To validate the proposed method, we used both numerical phantom images at various magnifications and images obtained from real industrial CL equipment. The experiment results confirmed that sharpness and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) were improved.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how image magnification in dental panoramic radiography is influenced by object position. Five metal balls (4 mm in diameter, 2 for the anterior and 3 for the posterior region on the right side) were placed above alveolar crest of dry skull considering extraction socket and dental arch. Dry skull was radiographed using OP-100D (Instrumentarium Imaging Co., Tuusula, Finland) at proper and displaced position along the sagittal and transverse plane at 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm and 15 mm using special mount which can control precise movement. Images were stored in DICOM files and were measured by ruler equipped within INFINITT PACS software (Infinitt Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea). The mean horizontal magnification was 1.224-1.439 and mean vertical magnification was 1.286 - 1.345 at proper position. Vertical magnification resulted in less variation (1.245-1.418) than horizontal magnification (0.798-6.297) according to the sagittal and transverse displacements. Head positioning is important for linear measurement on panoramic radiography and inclusion of standard object (for instance, metal ball) is helpful to anticipate exact magnification of panoramic radiographs at various location.
