  • Non-contact power supply (NCPS), as a clean and safe energy supply concept has been applying wildly. Comparing with the conventional transformer the non-contact transformer has a large air gap between the long primary winding and the secondary winding. Due to it, the non-contact transformer has increased leakage inductance and reduced magnetizing inductance. So the high frequency series resonant converter has been widly used on the non-contact power supply system for transferring the primary power to the secondary one, from what a high influence voltage can be gained on the secondry coil even though the large air gap exists. However, it still has the disadvantages of the load sensitive voltage gain characteristics when load is changing. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic controller to adjust the frequency of the inverter to track the resonat which is changing when the load is change.

  • In the present paper, the characteristics of Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$, JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, amorphous and ferrite cores are compared to the inductor of buck-boost converters for Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Core losses are analyzed at the condition of 10 kHz sine wave excitations, and permeability fluctuations vs. temperature and magnetizing force will be analyzed and discussed. Under the specifications of the buck-boost converter for 20 kW THS-II, the power inductor will be designed with Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$ and JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, and informative simulation results will be provided with respect to dc bias characteristics, core and copper losses.

  • Induction machine requires a rotating magnetic field for energy conversion. The current to generate a rotating magnetic field is the magnetization current. This magnetization current corresponds to the reactive power. Reactive power is higher than active power at start-up of induction motor. As the rotation speed is increased, their magnitudes are reversed each other. The active power is higher than the reactive power at near the synchronous speed. This paper is dealing with the analysis result for the changes of the magnetizing current and reactive power when the induction machine is operating as a motor or generator near synchronous speed.

  • In this paper we further propose to add a very simple regenerative clamping circuit to SSIPP to reduce the voltage stress and to recycle the energy trapped in the leakage inductance of the isolation transformer, thus eliminating the need for a lossy snubber circuit. In addition, this proposed clamping circuit also provides a mechanism to reset the magnetizing current of the output transformer of SSIPP employing a Forward converter as the output stage. Simulations and experimental results are reported to verify the operation and performance of the SSIPP with regenerative clamping.

  • A new high efficiency and low profile on-board DC/DC converter for digital car audio amplifiers is proposed. The proposed converter shows low conduction loss due to the low voltage stress of the secondary diodes, a lack of DC magnetizing current for the transformer, and a lack of stored energy in the transformer. Moreover, since the primary MOSFETs are turned-on under zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) conditions and the secondary diodes are turned-off under zero-current-switching (ZCS) conditions, the proposed converter has minimized switching losses. In addition, the input filter can be minimized due to a continuous input current, and an output inductor is absent in the proposed converter. Therefore, the proposed converter has the desired features, high efficiency and low profile, for a viable power supply for digital car audio amplifiers. A 60W industrial sample of the proposed converter has been implemented for digital car audio amplifiers with a measured efficiency of $88.3\%$ at nominal input voltage.

  • This paper presents a soft switching converter to achieve the functions of zero voltage switching (ZVS) turn-on for the power switches and dc voltage step-up. Two circuit modules are connected in parallel in order to achieve load current sharing and to reduce the size of the transformer core. An active snubber is connected between two transformers in order to absorb the energy stored in the leakage and magnetizing inductances and to limit the voltage stresses across the switches. During the commutation stage of the two complementary switches, the output capacitance of the two switches and the leakage inductance of the transformers are resonant. Thus, the power switches can be turned on under ZVS. No output filter inductor is used in the proposed converter and the voltage stresses of the output diodes is clamped to the output voltage. The circuit configuration, the operation principles and the design considerations are presented. Finally, laboratory experiments with a 340W prototype, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed converter, are described.

  • This study presents a single-phase power factor correction AC-DC converter that operates in discontinuous conduction mode. This converter uses the pulse-width modulation technique to achieve almost unity power factor and low total harmonic distortion of input current for universal input voltage $90V_{rms}$ to $264V_{rms}$) applications. The converter has a simple structure and electrical isolation. The magnetizing-inductor energy of the transformer can be recycled to the output without an additional third winding. The steady-state analysis of voltage gain and boundary operating conditions are discussed in detail. Finally, experimental results are shown to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel current-fed DC-DC converter with multi-output. It has two winding reactor in series with the input source of the converter. By using the 2nd winding recycling the energy stored in the reactor to the input, the double-outputs DC-DC converter can be created, which makes it a good choice for a multi-output power supply with more outputs and has savings in cost and space. The steady state and dynamic characteristics of the converter are analyzed in detail by using the state space averaging method. It is found that the maximum value of $V_{o2}$ exists in the 2nd output and also during the MOSFET off period, the energy stored in the magnetizing inductance is reset through auxiliary winding $N_3$, so the duty cycle is restricted to 50%. Theoretical and experimental results were taken from the converter rated at switching frequency 50kHz. input voltage 50V. output voltage 5V. 12V and output power 65W. As a result, both results were well consistent. Therefore, it is varified the validity of the proposed converter in this paper.

  • For the purpose of designing an intrinsic safety Flyback converter with minimal output voltage ripple based on a specified output current, this paper first classified the energy transmission modes of the system into three sorts, namely, the Complete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (CISM-CCM), the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (IISM-CCM) and the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-DCM (IISM-DCM). Then, the critical secondary self-inductance assorting the three modes are deduced and expressions of the output voltage ripples (OVR) are presented. For a Flyback converter with constant loads and switching frequency, it is shown that the output voltage ripple in the CISM-CCM is the smallest and that it has no relationship with the secondary self-inductance. Otherwise, the OVR of the other two modes are bigger than the previously mentioned one. It is concluded that the critical inductance between the CISM-CCM and the IISM-CCM is the minimal secondary self-inductance to ensure the smallest output voltage ripple. At last, a design method to guarantee the minimum OVR within the scales of the input voltage and load are analyzed, and the minimum secondary self-inductance is proposed to minimize the OVR. Simulations and experiments are given to verify the results.

  • This paper describes a simple control structure and power conditioning system for an indirect vector controlled stand-alone induction generator (IG) used to operate under variable speed. The required reactive power for the IG system is supplied by means of a capacitor bank and a voltage-source PWM converter. Using a capacitor bank to transfer the reactive power to the IG under the rated speed and no-load conditions starts the IG operation and reduces the PWM converter size. The vector control structure for the variable speed IG power conditioning system compensates for changes in the electrical three-phase and DC loads while considering the magnetizing curve of the IG. The vector control structure is developed to regulate the DC link voltage of the PWM converter and the IG output voltage. The experimental and simulated performance results of the IG power conditioning system at various speeds and loads are given and show that this proposed scheme can be used efficiently for a variable speed, wind energy conversion system.
