  • A non-contact battery charger which transfers energy using magnetic field has a difficulty with a feed-back control due to the interaction between the power and signal processing This paper proposes an effective method which uses auxiliary windings of transformer as signal path and copes with cross-talk using the MOSFET ringing phenomenon and ceramic filter. The power stage is half-bridge series resonant converter. Design procedure and experimental verification are presented.

  • This paper describes the design of the power conversion system for the 3-ton prototype magnetic levitation system. Electric power needed for the propulsion and levitation system of the vehicle is supplied by the wayside rectifier through the power rail and is picked up by the on board power collector, and is supplied to the propulsion VVVF inverter and levitation chopper. In this paper, design characteristic of the VVVF inverter, chopper and power source unit which provides control power to the levitation controller and levitation power to the chopper is described.

  • The goal of this study is construction and efficacy evaluation of MPC-25 (Magnetic Pain Control-25), a medical device using magnetic stimulation. MPC-25 consists of a main body containing power supply and control module and a bed containing magnetic core and coil. In distinction from electric pain control medical devices, magnetic pain control system is non-contact, so the patients need not take off their clothes to be treated. High amplitude current pulses are applied to a magnetic coil and induce time varying magnetic field generating eddy current in a conductor like human body. Clinical efficacy test was performed in patients suffering from musculoskeletal pain of lumbar, shoulder and joint. Degree of pain before and after treatment for 30 minutes was compared using Visual Analogous Scale. As a result, 14 cases out of 20 showed decreased pain perception, so the rate of efficacy is 70%. Reduction of pain perception was statistically significant (P=0.001 by Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test).

  • Recently fishing industry is interested in efficiency and automation to acquire the international competitive power of national fishing industry. As an automation device of fishing boat, there are electric compasses using GPS and terrestrial magnetic sensor. Electric compass can be minimum size, high effectiveness with keeping the characteristic of a magnetic compass. This can be used a heading angle sensor to construct auto-navigation system in a small size ship. This paper develop electronic compass system that has serial output signal in NMEA 0183 and demonstrates the possibility of the electronics compass in navigation system for a small sized ship.

  • If the satellite has the magnetic material or magnetic moment, the satellite is affected by the earth magnetic field by the space environment in Geostational orbit. The aim of this paper is to assess the satellite magnetic momentum which is an input to ADCS(Altitude Determination Control Subsystem) analyses to assess spurious torques. The magnetic momentum at satellite level is due to magnetic momentum generated by each unit which is due to internal currents circulation or to the presence of magnetic components. Also the magnetic momentum at satellite level is due to circulation of the DC supply current from PSR(Power Supply Regulator) to each unit. As introducing the intrinsic contribution of each unit and the magnetic moment based on the current return through the structure, this paper assess the satellite magnetic moment.

  • Since a power supply substation of the magnetic levitation train system includes a inverter which is necessary to change the frequency of power, it has a different characteristic comparing to any other railway system. Nowaday a study for determining rating of facilities constituting a power supply system and modeling that system is undergoing. In this paper, a analysis model for the power supply system of the magnetic levitation train using the 3-level inverter is proposed. And the analysis for output characteristic is performed using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. The control method about the output of 3-level inverter for supplying power to loads in magnetic levitation train system is also described.

  • This induced voltage measurement test and electromagnetic field simulation are related to the possibility of control signal malfunction by power line. Through an experiment, this research analyzed whether the voltage causing control malfunction according to the on/off status of power permitted to power line was induced to control signal line. Also, the research calculated the voltage induced to control signal line and examined the phenomenon by conducting an electro-magnetic field-specific simulation through the finite element method for the cable model used in the experiment.

  • It was known conceptually that ferrofluid or air driven flows induced by waste heat energy could generate electric power in surrounding windings by changing the magnetic flux with time through the colis. In the last decade, a ferrohydrodynamics energy harvesting system based on magnetorheology has been investigated experimentally and numerically. However, it was focused on the movement of air droplets or nanoparticles in the ferrofluid, therefore the electric power generated in the device was not enough to use practically. In this study, we developed the electrical generation concept based on magnetic particle flows for harvesting large amount of electric power and conducted measurements and computations for verifying the concept of electrical generation. In order to obtain a significant amount of electrical energy by using magnetic particle flows, it was critical to control the magnetization direction of magnetic nanoparticles in the fluid by a permanent magnet and to change the magnetic flux with time by air bubbles when the fluid flows in a millimeter-sized channel passed through surrounding windings.

A MOSFET's Driver Applied to High-frequency Switching with Wide Range of Duty Cycles

  • A MOSFET's gate driver based on magnetic coupling is investigated. The gate driver can meet the demands in applications for wide range of duty cycles and high frequency. Fully galvanic isolation can be realized, and no auxiliary supply is needed. The driver is insensitive to the leakage inductor of the isolated transformer. No gate resistor is needed to damp the oscillation, and thus the peak output current of the gate driver can be improved. Design of the driving transformer can also be made more flexible, which helps to improve the isolation voltage between the power stage and the control electronics, and aids to enhance the electromagnetic compatibility. The driver's operation principle is analyzed, and the design method for its key parameters is presented. The performance analysis is validated via experiment. The disadvantages of the traditional magnetic coupling and optical coupling have been conquered through the investigated circuit.
