  • Titanium-doped indium oxide (ITiO) films were prepared on soda-lime glass substrate using a magnetic null discharge (MND) sputter source. The ITiO thin films containing 10wt.% Ti showed the minimum resistivity of $\rho=5.5{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$. The optical transmittance increases from 70% at 450 nm to 80% at 700 nm in visible spectrum. Photoelectron peaks for In 3d, Ti 2p, O 1s and C1s were detected for the ITiO film in the binding energy range of 0 to 1100 eV. The surface roughness of the sample showed a change from 10 nm to 50 nm. The ITiO film used for TCO layer of DSCs exhibited an energy conversion efficiency of about 3.8% at light intensity of 100 mW/$cm^2$.

  • In this letter, a laterally-driven bistable electromagnetic microrelay is designed, fabricated, and tested. The proposed microrelay consists of a pair of arch-shaped leaf springs, a shuttle, and a contact bar made from silicon, low temperature oxide (LTO), and gold composite materials. Silicon-on-insulator wafers are used for electrical isolation and releasing of the moving microstructures. The high-aspect-ratio microstructures are fabricated using a deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) process. The tandem-typed leaf springs with a silicon/gold composite layer enhance the mechanical performances while reducing the electrical resistance. A permanent magnet is attached at the bottom of the silicon substrate, resulting in the generation of an external magnetic field in the direction vertical to the surface of the silicon substrate. The leaf springs show bistable characteristics. The resistance of the pair of leaf springs was $7.5\;{\Omega}$, and the contact resistance was $7.7\;{\Omega}$. The relay was operated at ${\pm}0.12\;V$.

  • This paper describes a simple route to synthesis of water-dispersible monodisperse maghemite (${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$) nanocrystals using 6-aminohexanoic acid (AHA) as a stabilizer. The water-dispersible ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanocrystals with an average size of 5 nm were obtained simply by addition of $Fe(CO)_5$ into an octyl ether solution containing AHA at $195^{\circ}C$ under argon condition. As-prepared AHA coated ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanocrystals exhibited highly crystallinity and magnetic property while keeping a good dispersity in an aqueous phase. We also obtained water-dispersible AHA coated ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanocrystals using ligand-exchange method, demonstrating that AHA can be a good candidate for preparing water-dispersible uniform metal oxide nanocrystals.

  • This paper describes on the temperature characteristics of a SDB(silicon-wafer direct bonding) SOI(silicon-on-insulator) Hall sensor. Using the buried oxide $SiO_2$ as a dielectrical isolation layer, a SDB SOI Hall sensor without pn junction isolation has been fabricated on the Si/$SiO_2$/Si structure. The Hall voltage and the sensitivity of the implemented SOI Hall sensor show good linearity with respect to the applied magnetic flux density and supplied current. In the temperature range of 25 to $300^{\circ}C$, the shifts of TCO(temperature coefficient of the offset voltage) and TCS(temperature coefficient of the product sensitivity) are less than $\pm 6.7$$\times$$10^{-3}$/$^{\circ}C$ and $\pm 8.2$$\times$$10^{-4}$/$^{\circ}C$respectively. These results indicate that the SDB SOI structure has potential for the development of a silicon Hall sensor with a high-sensitivity and hip high-temperature operation.

  • Recently, it has been found that mechanical alloying (MA) facilitates the nanocomposites formation of metal-metal oxide systems through solid-state reduction during ball milling. In this work, we studied the MA effect of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$-M (M = Al, Ti) systems, where pure metals are used as reducing agents. It is found that composite powders in which $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ and TiO$_{2}$ are dispersed in $\alpha$-Fe matrix with nano-sized grains are obtained by mechanical alloying of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$ with Al and Ti for 25 and 75 hours, respectively. It is suggested that the large negative heat associated with the chemical reduction of magnetite by aluminum is responsible for the shorter MA time for composite powder formation in Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$-Al system. X-ray diffraction results show that the reduction of magnetite by Al and Ti if a relatively simple reaction, involving one intermediate phase of FeAl$_{2}$O$_{4}$ or Fe$_{3}$Ti$_{3}$O$_{10}$. The average grain size of $\alpha$-Fe in Fe-TiO$_{2}$ composite powders is in the range of 30 nm. From magnetic measurement, we can also obtain indirect information about the details of the solid-state reduction process during MA.

  • In order to realize the commercial application of HTSC materials, it is necessary to develop the fabrication process of high Tc oxide superconductor materials with desired shape and for practical application and high critical current density as well as good mechanical strength which can withstand high lorenz force generated at high magnetic field. Much studies have been concentrated to develop the fabrication technique for high critical current density but still there are a lot of gap which should be overcome for large scale application of HTSC materials at liquid nitrogen temperature. Recently some new fabrication techniques have been developed for YBaCuO bulk superconductor with high mechanical strength and critical current density. In this project, the establishment of fabrication condition and additive effects of second elements were examined so as to improve the related properties to the practical use of YBaCuO superconductor, and we reported the production of the YBaCuO high Tc superconductor by the pyrolysis method.

  • Sodium substituted samples of $Y_{1-x}Na_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ for $0.00{\leq}x{\leq}0.16$ were prepared and characterized by X-ray powder pattern, electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and idometric titration. The Na substituted compounds have narrow solid solution limits where $0.00{\leq}x{\leq}0.16.$ As the Na concentration increases, the parent orthorhombic structure tends to gradually change to tetragonal. Small changes in the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, are observed in this solid solution region. Raman spectra for the Na phases are virtually identical with that of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ except that the Cu(1)-O(4) stretching mode at 504 $cm^{-1}$ and the Cu(2)-O(2,3) bending mode at 340 $cm^{-1}$ for x = 0.16 are slightly shifted. The hole concentrations of the sodium substituted compounds ranged from 0.31 to 0.33 per Cu site are increased with Na content. The substitution of $Na^+$ for $Y^{3+}$ site appears to create oxygen vacancies in the Cu-O chains, causes structural change from orthorhombic to tetragonal, and increases hole concentration in the substituted system.

  • A.c. susceptibility for $Bi_{1.4}Pb_{0.6}Sr_2Ca_2Cu_{3.6}O_x$ superconductor is measured as a function of temperature at different value of a.c. magnetic field amplitude. Two transition steps are attributed to the intergranular and intragranular properties. Based on Bean's critical state model, intergranular critical current density, $J_c^{gb}$ (11 $A/cm^2$ at 77 K) and intragranular critical current density, $J_c^g (7{\times}10^3\;A/cm^2$ at 100 K) are estimated. The low values of $J_c^{gb}$and $J_c^g$ reflect a poor nature of coupling between grains and the low pinning force density of intragrain in $Bi_{1.4}Pb_{0.6}Sr_2Ca_2Cu_{3.6}O_x$ superconductor.

  • Nanofluid is a kind of new engineering material consisting of nanoparticles dispersed in base fluid. Nanofluids could have various applications such as magnetic fluids, heat exchanger working fluids, lubricants, drug delivery and so on in present study, various nanoparticles, such as MWCNT (Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube), fullerene, copper oxide, and silicon dioxide are used to produce nanofluids. As base fluids, DI-water, ethylene glycol, oil, and silicon oil are used. To investigate the thermo-physical properties of nanofluids, thermal conductivity and kinematic viscosity are measured. Stability estimation of nanofluid is conducted with UV-vis spectrophoto-meter. In this study, the high pressure homogenizer is the most effective method to produce nanofluid with the prepared nanoparticle and base fluid. Excellently stable nanofluids are produced with the magnetron sputtering system. Thermal conductivity of nanofluid increases with increasing particle volume fraction except water-based fullerene nanofluid which has lower thermal conductivity than base fluid due to its lower thermal conductivity, 0.4 W/mK. The experimental results can't be predicted by Jang and Choi model.

  • The electronic structures and magnetism of the non-oxide perovskite MgCFe$_3$(001) surface were investigated by using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). We considered both of the MgFe terminated (MgFe-Term) and the CFe terminated (CFe-Term) surfaces. We found that the minority spin d-bands of Fe(S) of the MgFe-Term are strongly localized and Fermi level (EF) lies just below the sharp peak of the minority spin d-band of Fe(S), while the minority spin d-bands of Fe(S) of the CFe-Term are not localized much and Fermi level (E$_F$) lies in the middle of two peaks of the minority spins. The majority Fe(S) d-band width of MgFe- Term is narrower than that of the CFe-Term. It is found that the magnetic moment of Fe(S) of the MgFe- Term is 2.51 ${\mu}$$_B$, which is much larger than that of 1.97 ${\mu}$$_B$ of the CFe-Term.
