Orientation and thickness dependence of magnetic levitation force and trapped magnetic field of single grain YBa2Cu3O7-y bulk superconductors

  • The effects of the crystallographic orientation and sample thickness on the magnetic levitation forces (F) and trapped magnetic field (B) of single grain YBCO bulk superconductors were examined. Single grain YBCO samples with a (001), (110) or (100) surface were used as the test samples. The samples used for the force-distance (F-d) measurement were cooled at 77 K without a magnetic field (zero field cooling, ZFC), whereas the samples used for the B measurement were cooled under the external magnetic field of a Nd-B-Fe permanent magnet (field cooling, FC). It was found that F and B of the (001) surface were higher than those of the (110) or (100) surface, which is attributed to the higher critical current density ($J_c$) of the (001) surface. For the (001) samples with t=5-18 mm, the maximum magnetic levitation forces ($F_{max}s$) of the ZFC samples were larger than 40 N. About 80% of the applied magnetic field was trapped in the FC samples. However, the F and B decreased rapidly as t decreased below 5 mm. There exists a critical sample thickness (t=5 mm for the experimental condition of this study) for maintaining the large levitation/trapping properties, which is dependent on the material properties and magnitude of the external magnetic fields.

  • In this paper, we address the development of magnetic levitation positioning system. This planar magnetic levitator employs four permanent magnet liner motors. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity, as well as horizontal force for drive levitation object called a platen This stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion by the vertical and horizontal force. We derived the mechanical dynamics equation using lagrangian method and used coenergy to express an electromagnetic force. We proposed control algorithm for the position and posture control from its initial value to its desired value using sliding mode control. Some simulation result is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • A mathematical modeling for a magnetic levitation system is proposed using the Taylor series expansion of differential function for obtaining linearity. It is confirmed that this kind of linear approximation method can be used to the modeling of a magnetic levitation system. The two-degree-of-freedom optimal servo system for a constant reference signal is proposed using the LQ optimization technique. An additional state feedback is introduced at the output of the integrator to cancel the integral action for reference signal if there is no modeling error of the plant and no disturbance input to the plant. When the modeling error or the disturbance input exists, the integral effect appears. The system has a free parameter which can b used to tune the effect of the integral compensation.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear adaptive control approach to a 4-point attraction magnetic levitation system using the local coordinates transformation and neural network. Based on local coordinates transformations, the magnetic levitation system can be represented in a state magnetic levitation system can be represented in a state space from of a 4-input 4-output. Neural networks which are defined in the new coordinates are used to learn the nonlinear functions of the system which are defined in the new coordinats also. The parameters of the neural networks are updated in an on-line manner according to an augmented tracking error. The simulation results are reported in this paper.

독일자기부상열차 Transrapid의 콘크리트 교각선로구조물에 관한 연구 (A Study on the RC and PSC structure System of the Transrapid in Germany)

  • State of the art and current issues related with the RC and PSC structure system for the German magnetic levitation train "Transrapid" were investigated. The German magnetic levitation train adopted a new kind of a structure to enable high-speed transportation, which allows the use of the space over a ground. The loading from Transrapid is light-weight compared with a regular train due to load distribution to a supporting structure. Therefore, Transrapid is considered an economical and efficient transportation system, and is also an environmentally-sustainable structure. In this paper, the structural design and construction technology specific to a magnetic levitation train were discussed, and structural considerations related with an actual operation of the train were pointed out. In addition, the future research area of a magnetic levitation train was proposed.

  • According to the development of power electronic element(GTO, IGBT) and material for electrical machines(permanent magnet, super conductor), the technology for electrical machines is nowaday rapidly developing. Here with, a novel electrical machine, based on the new conception of transverse flux configuration leads to a considerable Increase in power density and enables simultaneously high efficiency. The transverse flux machine with PM excitation will be applied to gearless direct drives for railway traction system and magnetic levitation system. The designed and measured performance of transverse machine for railway traction system and magnetic levitation system revealed a great potential of system improvements to reduce linear motor mass and increase efficiency.

  • The recent operating trains including the high speed train are mostly moving system on the rail and system use the mechanical propulsion force to drive the gear and wheel by the traction motor. Advanced countries are interested in Magnetic Levitation Vehicle and they have been studying about it continuously.   • This paper describes the design of the power conversion system for the 3-ton prototype magnetic levitation system. Electric power needed for the propulsion and levitation system of the vehicle is supplied by the wayside rectifier through the power rail and is picked up by the on board power collector, and is supplied to the propulsion VVVF inverter and levitation chopper. In this paper, design characteristic of the VVVF inverter, chopper and power source unit which provides control power to the levitation controller and levitation power to the chopper is described.
