Historically, industrial condition monitoring has been performed by costly hard-wired sensors or infrequent checks by maintenance personnel equipped with hand held monitoring equipment. Self- powered wireless condition monitoring systems provides on-line monitoring of critical plant and machinery providing major operating cost benefits. A vibration energy harvester(VEH) is a device that converts kinetic energy occurred by machine vibration into useable electrical energy. Using VEHs to power wireless monitoring systems can yield significant benefits: increased reliability, lower life time costs and no battery disposal issues, etc. This paper proposes the novel prototype design and manufacturing of a VEH that can eliminate the effect by failed batteries.
In the industrial field the necessity of the linear motion is increasing. We selected a moving magnet coreless type LDM, which have the advantages, such as long stoke, brushless, no cogging force. Actually, the design is accomplished using FEM analysis for the basic configuration of a magnetic circuit, and characteristic equations for coil design. In the course of design, we have estimated airgap flux density and thrust. We fabricated coreless type LDM and experimented static test. We compared measurement values with FEM analysis values.
This paper describes the use of the PHOENICS CFD package for the simulation of the high-current period of the arcing process in a hybrid rotating arc/auto expansion by interrupter. The operating principle of this device depends on rapid arc rotation due to the magnetic field created by the fault current through a coil which is mounted on contacts and also relies on the principle of thermal expansion created by arc energy in extinguishing chamber and finally causes pressure rise in expansion volume. This paper is divided into three main sections. The first gives a brief overview of the interrupter. The second section gives a full description of the methods used in the calculation. The final section presents some sample results for the hybrid interrupter.
The iron loss in electric machines takes large part of machine losses and the reduction of iron loss brings the increase of the efficiency. In the rotating machines, however it is very difficult to calculate the iron loss and to get the exact experiment result because the measuring precesses are very complex and laborious. As is well known, the relation between the flux density B and the magnetic field intensity H relation is not linear. For the iron loss, B and H must be measured and usually B becomes the reference wave(sine wave) and the following H is measured using H-coil. To make the B as sine wave, B is controlled by some devices. The error is controlled to become zero by the proposed algorithm which uses the bisection algorithm. The experiments are compared with the simulation results, and they show acceptable agreements.
The annular induction electromagnetic pump with maximum flowrate of $60{\ell}/min$ for the sodium coolant system of liquid metal fast breeder reacters has been designed using the equivalent circuit method. The final optimum values of geometrical and electromagnetic parameters were obtained for an annular induction pump from the relation of the electrical variables giving the developing force to the fluid and the pressure drops between both sides of the pump. The physical properties of the core, coil condoctor materials in the high temperature and pump cooling systems under operation have been taken into account in the design of the pump. The structural material were also selected considering the reaction with sodium and the magnetic field distortion.
We present a new procedure to evaluate the degradation in a lCr-lMo-0.25V steel. The method is based on the existence of the peak of reversible permeability in the differential magnetization around the coercive field strength. The apparatus is based on the detection of the voltage induced in a surface type coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to a frequency to the exciting one. Results obtained the reversible permeability and Vickers hardness on the annealed samples show the peak interval of reversible permeability and Vickers hardness decreased as ageing time increased. The correlation between Vickers hardness and the peak interval of reversible permeability could well be evaluated non destructively.
Mechanical property evaluation of micrometer-sized structures is necessary to help design reliable microelectromechanical systems(MEMS) devices. Most material properties are known to exhibit dependence on specimen size and such properties of microscale structures are not well characterized. This paper describes techniques developed for tensile testing of materials used in MEMS. Epi-polycrystalline silicon is currently the most widely used material, and its tensile strength has been measured as 1.52GPa. We have developed an uniaxial testing machine for testing microscale specimen using electro-magnetic actuator. The field magnet and the moving coil taken from an audio-speaker were utilized as the components of the actuator. Structure of specimen was designed and manufactured for easy handling and alignment. In addition to the static tensile tests, new techniques and procedures for measuring strength are described.

This paper investigates the influence of mechanical energy storage on the interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) when it is operated in the generating mode. An IPMSM with six-poles and nine-slots employing concentrated coil winding type is considered as the analysis model, and a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor directly connected to a heavy wheel is applied as the mechanical energy storage system by using the moment of inertia. Based on the constructed experimental set-up with manufactured machines and power converters, the generated electrical energy is converted into the mechanical energy, and the electromagnetic filed characteristics of IPMSM are subsequently investigated by applying the measured phase current of IPMSM based on finite element method. Compared to the characteristics in a no-load condition, it is confirmed that the magnetic behavior, radial force, and power loss characteristics are highly influenced by the harmonics of the phase current due to the mechanical energy storage system.
This paper deals with the dynamic analysis and experiments of moving-magnet linear actuator with/without spring. On the basis of two dimensional (2-D) analytical solutions and experiments, control parameters such as thrust constant, back-emf constant, inductance and resistance are obtained. And then, dynamic simulation algorithm is established from the voltage and motion equation. Finally, for various values of frequency, dynamic simulation results for characteristics of current and displacement of moving-magnet linear actuator with and without spring are presented and confirmed through the experiments. In particular, This paper applies the PWM voltage waveform obtained from a DSP for bidirectional voltage drive to the actuator.
