Heterogeneous cellular networks can provide high throughput and coverage compare to conventional networks of only macrocell deployment, however it operates regardless of total power consumption, which is a very important issue of modern cellular networks. We propose a policy that control the on/off state of base stations in heterogeneous networks according daily traffic profile. Under this policy, the total power consumed can be significantly reduced when the traffic is low while preserving QoS requirement.
In high frequency environment such as microcell, it is requried to adopt a new method different from the empirical channel modeling applied in macrocell. In this thesis, measurement for residential area in Sinrimdong and the result of the simulation are compared and analyzed. Simulation technique utilizes 3D ray launching method to consider some factors which were not included in the ray tracing method. Propagation environment in the urban area shows the typical channel characterisitics of the propagation environment. Using 3D ray launching method, pathloss of the wave and delay characteristics of the signal with respect to the height of the transmitter is researched. If the transmitter is located on the top of the building, radiowave experiences diffraction on the rooftop and it influences the total received signal strength.
In this paper, we proposed separate queue scheme in each hierarchical cell for effective use of wireless channel. This method reduces the blocking rata of high speed mobile station's handoff in hierarchical cellular systems. Basically for the high speed mobile stations channels are allocated in macrocell and for the low speed mobile stations channels are allocated in microcell. In order to reduce the rate of forced handoff termination, some reservation channels are employed for the fast handoff calls in the macrocells. And the queue is located in each cell to be able to store handoff requests and takeback requests. The overflowed mobile station are able to perform takeback as soon as a corresponding channel is available.

In this paper, we will provide a comprehensive review of radio propagation measurements conducted to date for mobile radio systems at frequency bands used for cellular and personal communications services in microcellular systems. Path-loss results were measured by using narrowband signal and multipath propagations were characterized by wideband measurements. This paper includes unpublished empirical path loss formulas for Oakland city of non-uniform building heights, and presents a comparison with path loss formulas obtained from typical low-rise building environments in order to discuss street grid dependence on route-specific building profile. We will also compare some empirical models developed based on the measurements with a few well-established theoretical prodiction models.

We propose joint employment of power control and almost blank subframes (ABSF) for femtocells to mitigate the interference of femto-cells to a macrocell in heterogeneous networks. We obtained improved performance in terms of both femtocells capacity and reduced interference by computer simulations while we have marginally decreased overall network capacity compared to possibly maximum capacity.

Recent construction activities and maintenance of marine facilities have been accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth in Korea. Marine concrete structures are exposed to salts an chloride from ocean environments. The corrosion of reinforcement steel caused by chloride-penetration into concrete may severely effect the durability of concrete structures. The objective of this research is to develop a durable concrete by investigating the corrosion resistance of various corrosion protection systems utilizing different water/cement ratio, silica fumes, corrosion inhibitors and etc. A tow-year verification test on various corrosion protection systems has been doing in the laboratory and at the seaside. Corrosion investigations on reinforcement steel are now under progress for more than 180 concrete specimen. Corrosion-related measurements include macrocell corrosion current, instant-off voltage between corroding and noncorroding reinforcement, chloride contents, the corroded surface areas on the reinforcement steel, and etc. A low level of corrosion is investigated on reinforcement steels in concrete specimen made with corrosion inhibitors or applied aqueous impregnating corrosion inhibitors into their surface, even though high chloride contents of concrete specimen.

In this paper, we analyze capacities of spectrum sharing scheme for both reverse link and forward link in hierachical CDMA cellular systems with Hot-spot microcell. Capacity analysis is performed through Monte-Carlo simulation by considering microcell radius, location of microcell. and transmission power ratio of microoell to macrocell. From simulation results, we analyzed these effects and derived a general design approach. In addition, the performance of spectrum sharing scheme for each link is analyzed in the capacity plane.

The femtocell overlaid cellular network (FOCN) has been used to enhance the capacity of existing cellular systems. To obtain the desired system performance, both cross-tier interference and co-tier interference in an FOCN need to be managed. This paper proposes an interference management scheme that adaptively constructs a femtocell cluster, which is a group of femtocell base stations that share the same frequency band. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed scheme can enhance the performance of the macrocell-tier and maintain a greater signal to interference-plus-noise ratio than the outage level can for about 99% of femtocell users.

Yeung suggested[10] efficient channel management technique suitable for the mobility model in the hierachical cellular system. It improved the existing channel allocation techniques by additionally considering the user’s mobility, allocating the channel of microcell to low-speed mobiles, and the channels of macrocell to high-speed mobiles. In this paper, we have suggested new channel management technique, which is directly compared with those of Yeung’s system and existing model. Blocking probabilities for each model are found through the queuing analysis and we have shown that our proposed system outperforms the both.

In this paper, we classify the transfer method of overflowed traffic from microcell to macrocell in micor/macro overlaid PCS system using CDMA technology, and analyze the traffic characteristics of traffic transfer methods. Soft-handoff is charaterized by communications with a new bastation on the same CDMA frequency assignment before terminating communications with the old basestation. Therefore, soft-handoff is superior to hard-handoff with respect to Grade Of Service, but it decreases the carried traffic of system. Therefore, we analyze the effect of soft-handoff with respect to handoff area variation. In order to analyze soft-handoff effect, we resolve the probability of dewelling time in soft-handoff area, and calculates the carried traffic of microcell using this result.
