  • Fixed GOP allocation in MPEG-2 cannot cope with scene change and amount of motion, which results in degradation picture quality. By finding suitable N and M and allocating dynamic GOP, the improvement of picture quality can be achieved. In this paper, N and M are determined by scene change detection and estimation of amount of motion using color histogram per each macroblock. The simulation results show that the average PSNR is improved, especially around the shot boundaries.

  • This paper proposes a method to classify different video contents using features of digital video. Classified video types are the news, drama, show, sports, and talk program. Features, such as intra-coded macroblock number St motion vector in P-picture in MPEG domain are used. The frame difference of YCbCr is also employed as a measure of classification. We detect the occurrences of cuts in a video for a measure of classification. Finally, back-propagation neural-network of 3 layers is used to classify video contents.

  • This paper lists various error resilience tools and analyzes performance in IP Datacast over DVB-H systems and schemes are proposed. Experiments shows that, in DVB-H environment, encoding with macroblock line intra update can achieve the best error correction ability, because this tool can make full use of spatial correlation for intra prediction and reduce the requirement of bit rate.

  • New coding tools require the increase of the encoder complexity in H.264. In this paper we propose a fast mode decision method to reduce the computational complexity of mode decision. The simulation results shows that the proposed methods could reduce the coding time of overall sequences by 30% on average without any noticeable degradation of the coding efficiency.

  • H.264 is a new international video coding standard that can achieve considerably higher coding efficiency than conventional standards. Its coding gain has been achieved by employing advanced video coding methods. Specially, the increased number of macroblock modes and the complex mode decision procedure using the Lagrangian optimization are the main factors for increasing coding efficiency. Although H.264 obtains improved coding efficiency, it is difficult to do an real-time encoding because it considers all coding parameters in the mode decision procedure. In this paper, we propose a fast mode decision algorithm which classifies the macroblock modes in order to determine the optimal mode having low complexity quickly. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the encoding time by 34.95% on average without significant PSNR degradation or bit-rate increment. In addition, in order to show the validity of simulation results, we set up a low boundary condition for coding efficiency and complexity and show that the proposed algorithm satisfies the low boundary condition.

  • This dissertation proposes digital video protection algorithm lot moving image based on MPEG. Shuffling-based encryption algorithms using a fixed random shuffling table are quite simple and effective but vulnerable to the chosen plaintext attack. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to change the key used for generation of the shuffling table. However, this may pose a significant burden on the security key management system. A better approach is to generate the shuffling table based on the local feature of an image. In order to withstand the chosen plaintext attack, at first, we propose a interleaving algorithm that is adaptive to the local feature of an image. Secondly, using the multiple shuffling method which is combined interleaving with existing random shuffling method, we encrypted the DPCM processed 8*8 blocks. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm needs only 10% time of SEED encryption algorithm and moreover there is no overhead bit. In video sequence encryption, multiple random shuffling algorithms are used to encrypt the DC and AC coefficients of intra frame, and motion vector encryption and macroblock shuffling are used to encrypt the intra-coded macroblock in predicted frame.

  • In this paper, we propose a new selective temporal error concealment algerian best suited for H.264/AVC. The proposed algorithm performs selective temporal error concealment depending on whether the lost block is at background or foreground. It the corrupted macroblock is decided as at background, then the simple temporal replacement is performed. Also we propose replacing a lost block at foreground with the selective average of respectively estimated blocks from the multiple reference frames. This paper supposes error-corrupted H.264/AVC video bitstreams over CDMA2000 (or UMTS) air interface. It is shown that under Flexible Macroblock Ordering (FMO) coding of H.264/AVC, the proposed algorithm provides PSNR gain up to 1.18dB compared to built-in algorithm in the K264/AVC test model. In addition, the proposed error concealment method has average PSNR improvement of 0.33dB compared with that under N-slice coding mode. The proposed algorithm also provides better subjective video quality than other conventional error concealment algorithms.

  • Multi-view video coding (MVC) based on H.264/AVC encodes multiple views efficiently by using a prediction scheme that exploits inter-view correlation among multiple views. However, with the increase of the number of views and use of inter-view prediction among views, total encoding time will be increased in multiview video coding. In this paper, we propose a fast mode decision using both MB(Macroblock)-based region segmentation information corresponding to each view in multiple views and global disparity vector among views in order to reduce encoding time. The proposed method achieves on average 40% reduction of total encoding time with the objective video quality degradation of about 0.04 dB peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) by using joint multi-view video model (JMVM) 4.0 that is the reference software of the multiview video coding standard.
