Performance assessment of an ultraprecision machine tool positioning system with a friction drive

  • The positioning system for an ultra precision machine tool must be accurate to the order of a nanometer. Various feed drive devices have been proposed to achieve this resolution; currently, most attention is directed towards hydrostatic lead screws and friction drives. It has been reported that a positioning resolution accurate to an angstrom can be achieved using a twist-roller friction drive. Therefore, we manufactured an ultra precision positioning system driven by a twist-roller friction drive and assessed its performance when defining problems and finding solutions. Our study showed that the twist-roller friction drive is mechanically suitable for ultra precision positioning, but some considerations are required to obtain a higher resolution.

  • Recently, mail center considers introducing the automatic mail sorting machine to improve the productivity of sorting process. This paper deals with the development of optimal process plan for the mail sorting machine. We suggest several alternatives and evaluate them throughout the process analyzing method.

  • As the application fields of micro parts that are micro endo-scope, PDA, and tele-communication had been extended, there are required the micro machine tools and MEMS in order to machining for those parts. In order to machining of the micro parts, the micro machining center is very effective. The micro machining center had some advantages that are lower cost, higher accuracy, and lower required powers than existing machine tools for machining of micro parts. In this study, in order to analyze the machining characteristics and its application possibility of the developing micro machining center with 60,000rpm rotations, 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ resolutions, and 80 50 50mm sliding unit, the machining experiment had been executed. In this experimental machining, 0.1~ 0.5mm endmills are used to machining the micro cap and tele-communication's parts. In the future, experimental results will be adapted to the micro-machining center.

Machining Center의 공간정도 측정장치의 개발 (Developement of Measuring Units of Space Motion Accuracy in Machining Center)

  • In recent years, it has been variously developed for testing the accuracy of circular motion of NC machine tools, for example Telescoping Ball Bar Method by Bryan, Circular test Method by Knapp and $r^{-{\theta} }$ Method by Tsutsumi etc., but these methods are all 2-dimentional measuring methods on plane. These simple methods of circular motion accuracy test of NC machine tools have been studied by many reserchers as above, but it is not yet settled in the code of measuring methods of motion errors of NC machine tools, because of errors of measuring units and sensors, and also especially the difficulties of centering of measuring units and the spindle of machining center. In this paper, in use of 2 rotary encoders and 1 magnetic type linear scale with resolution of 0.5 .mu. m, it has become possible for measuring of 3 dimentional space motion accuracy.

  • Nuclear infrastructure systems play an important role in national security. The functions and missions of nuclear infrastructure systems are vital to government, businesses, society and citizen's lives. It is crucial to design nuclear infrastructure for scalability, reliability and robustness. To do this, we can use machine learning, which is a state of the art technology used in various fields ranging from voice recognition, Internet of Things (IoT) device management and autonomous vehicles. In this paper, we propose to design and develop a machine learning algorithm to perform predictive maintenance of nuclear infrastructure. Support vector machine and logistic regression algorithms will be used to perform the prediction. These machine learning techniques have been used to explore and compare rare events that could occur in nuclear infrastructure. As per our literature review, support vector machines provide better performance metrics. In this paper, we have performed parameter optimization for both algorithms mentioned. Existing research has been done in conditions with a great volume of data, but this paper presents a novel approach to correlate nuclear infrastructure data samples where the density of probability is very low. This paper also identifies the respective motivations and distinguishes between benefits and drawbacks of the selected machine learning algorithms.

문형머시닝센터의 구조해석을 통한 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Optimization for Static Characteristics Analysis of Gantry-Type Machining Centers)

  • Recently, as the demand for high efficiency, multi-function machine tools has increased, domestic machine tool industries are investing in research and development for Gantry-Type Machining centers. In this thesis, for the purpose of evaluating machining accuracy and designing a machine tool structure, a simplified model of the main frame is suggested. The results show the general characteristics of the optimum design, and the approach is shown as practicable for the preliminary design analysis and improvement of a conceptual design of a Gantry-Type Machining center. This paper's results are expected to improve the static characteristics of Gantry-Type Machine centers. The three-dimensional finite element models proved that the modeling method might be applied to real machine tool structures.
