In ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging (ULF-MRI), the strength of a static magnetic field can be comparable to that of gradient field. On that occasion, the gradient field is accompanied by concomitant gradient field, which yields distortion and blurring artifacts on MR images. Here, we focused on the distortion artifact and derived the equations capable of correcting it. Its usefulness was confirmed through the corrections in both simulated and experimental images. This solution will be effective for acquiring more accurate images in low and/or ultra-low magnetic fields.
This paper describes the determination of bulk density and the discrimination of internal structure of red ginseng by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The 102 red ginseng roots were tested for bulk density. The NMR properties measured by NMR parameters such as spin-lattice relaxation time ($T_1$) and spin-spin relaxation time ($T_2$) were determined using the low field proton NMR analyzer. Bulk density of red ginseng root showed a highly negative significant correlation (r=-0.8934) with the value of $T_1$, but a highly positive significant correlation (r=0.7672 and 0.5909) with the value of T21 (short T2) and T22 (long T2), respectively. Multiple regression equation, Y=-0.0069.$T_1$+0.3044.$T_{21}$-0.0156.$T_{22}$-0.6368, using the MNR parameter values of 80 red ginseng roots can effectively predict the bulk density of 22 red ginseng roots with the correlation coefficient of 0.9396 and the standard error of 0.086. The differences in the internal structure of normal and inside white part of red ginseng were easily found by the signal intensity of NMR image based on magnetic properties of proton nucleus.
This study mainly investigated the improvement effect of nitroso-hemoglobin (NO-Hb) and four lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Streptococcus thermophiles, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, and Montessori enterococcus) on the color and microbiological qualities of raw beef. Three strains of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, Salmonella, and Pseudomonas were used as pathogenic bacteria. The results showed that both NO-Hb and LAB could enhance the color stability and scavenged the spoilage bacteria in a minced beef model. But the improvement effect of NO-Hb was more significant than LAB. This suggested that NO-Hb, as a novel ingredient, could be used as a promising substitute for nitrite in meat products to improve the color and safety of meat products. In addition, low field (LF)-NMR method has been established to be practicable to identify changes in the relaxation times of water and fat caused by different type of bacteria and the storage periods. The number of relaxation components in minced beef was affected by bacteria and increase of the storage period.
The present article briefly overviews the plan for a new project on joint technology for HTS wires/cables and describes the development plan for the world's highest field NMR magnet, which is a major development item in the project. For full-fledged social implementation of superconducting devices, high temperature superconducting (HTS) wire is a key technology since they can be cooled by liquid nitrogen and they can generate a super-high magnetic field of >>24 T at liquid helium temperatures. However, one of the major drawbacks of the HTS wires is their availability only in short lengths of a single piece of wire. This necessitates a number of joints being installed in superconducting devices, resulting in a difficult manufacturing process and a large joint resistance. In Japan, a large-scale project has commenced, including two technical demonstration items: (i) Development of superconducting joints between HTS wires, which are used in the world's highest field 1.3 GHz (30.5 T) NMR magnet in persistent current mode; the joints performance is evaluated based on NMR spectra for proteins. (ii) Development of ultra-low resistive joints between DC superconducting feeder cables for railway systems. The project starts a new initiative of next generation super-high field NMR development as well as that of realization of better superconducting power cables.
This paper describes a model flux pump experiment recently performed at the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory. The results of the model flux pump will be used in the development of a prototype flux pump that will be couple to a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) insert coil of a high-field NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) magnet, Such an HTS insert is unlikely to operate in persistent model because of the conductors low index(n) The flux pump can compensate fro field decay in the HTS insert coil and make the insert operate effectively in persistent mode . The flux pump, comprised essentially of a transformer an two switches. all made of superconductor, transfers into the insert coil a fraction of a magnetic energy that is first introduced in the secondary circuit of the transformer by a current supplied to the primary circuit. A model flux pump has been designed. fabricated, and operated to demonstrate that a flux pump can indeed supply a small metered current into a load superconducting magnet. A current increment in the range of microamperes has been measured in the magnet after each pumping action. The superconducting model flux pump is made of Nb$_3$ Sn tape, The pump is placed in a gaseous environment above the liquid helium level to keep its heat dissipation from directly discharged in the liquid: the effluent helium vapor maintains the thermal stability of the flux pump.

In this study, the microvoids in glassy polymers were investigated by Xe sorption and $^{129}Xe$ NMR measurements. Xe sorption isotherms of glassy polymers have been successfully interpreted by the dual-mode sorption model. $^{129}Xe$ NMR chemical shift of the $^{129}Xe$ in the samples show nonlinear low-field shift with increasing sorption amount of Xe because of a fast exchange of Xe atoms between Henry and Langmuir sites, whereas it has showed linear shift against sorption amount of Xe into the Langmuir site. From this Xe-density dependence of the $^{129}Xe$ NMR chemical shift, it has been able to estimate mean size of the microvoids in glassy polymer. It is confirmed that there is correlation between ${C_H}'$ and volume or number of microvoids. From these findings, it is demonstrated that $^{129}Xe$ NMR spectroscopy is a powerful technique to determine the mean size and number of microvoids in glassy polymers.
The human protein tyrosine kinase-6 (PTK6) polypeptide that is deduced from the cDNA sequence contains a Src homology (SH) 3 domain, SH2 domain, and catalytic domain of tyrosine kinase. We initiated biochemical and NMR characterization of PTK6 SH3 domain in order to correlate the structural role of the PTK6 using circular dichroism and heteronuclear NMR techniques. The circular dichroism data suggested that the secondary structural elements of the SH3 domain are mainly composed of $\beta$-sheet conformations. It is most stable when the pH is neutral based on the pH titration data. In addition, a number of cross peaks at the low-field area of the proton chemical shift of the NMR spectra indicated that the PTK6 SH3 domain retains a unique and folded conformation at the neutral pH condition. For other pH conditions, the SH3 domain became unstable and aggregated during NMR measurements, indicating that the structural stability is very sensitive to pH environments. Both the NMR and circular dichroism data indicate that the PTK6 SH3 domain experiences a conformational instability, even in an aqueous solution.
NMR over 1 GHz (23.5 T) level has difficulties in design and fabrication with only low temperature superconducting (LTS) wire because of its material characteristics such as the decay of critical current under the magnetic field. Because High temperature superconducting (HTS) tape has a good performance under the extremely high magnetic field, it has been developed for high-field magnet over 23.5 T. In this paper, the LTS magnet was made for applying magnetic fields externally and the HTS coil was designed and fabricated. The electromagnetic field analysis has been done with respect to the structure and the operating current of the LTS and HTS coil. Considering to the field homogeneity and the center field, the design parameters which is suitable for the HTS coil were found. The HTS insert coil was impregnated with epoxy resin in order to prevent the movement of winding during energizing the magnet. The hybrid magnet (LTS/HTS) magnet was fabricated and tested based on the design parameters. The experimental result shows that the LTS background magnet and the HTS insert coil can be operated stable beyond 220 A and 210 A. The final value 4.32 T at the center was acquired.
