This paper presents a improved control technique to overcome disadvantage when the inductor current of boost converter in PV system becomes DCM(Discontinuous Conduction Mode) due to the low insolation. MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) output reference voltage could not be exactly followed by conventional dual-loop PI control method used typically because of the error between the actual current and measured current. Therefore, in this paper, Hybrid controller that changes the control method in DCM and CCM(Continuous Conduction Mode), and single state feedback controller are used to compensate that problem. The proposed control technique was verified by simulation using PSIM 9.0 and experiments.

A high-efficiency and small-sized switched-mode line transformer (SMLT) is proposed in this study. The conventional structure of an adapter is composed of line transformer and rectifiers. This structure has a limit in miniaturizing due to low-frequency line transformer. Another structure is composed of power factor correction (PFC) and DC/DC converter. This structure has a limit in reducing volume due to two-stage structure. As the proposed SMLT is composed of an LLC resonant converter, a high-frequency transformer can be adopted to achieve isolation standards and size reduction. This proposed structure has different operation modes in accordance with line input voltage to overcome poor line regulation. In addition, the proposed SMLT is applied to the front of a conventional PFC converter, because the SMLT output voltage is restored to rectified sinusoidal wave by using a full-bridge rectifier in the secondary side. The design of the PFC converter is easy, because the SMLT output voltage is controlled as rectified sinusoidal wave. The validity of the proposed converter is proven through a 350 W prototype.
Energy harvesting is an emerging technique that extracts energy from surrounding environments to power low-power devices. For example, it can potentially provide sustainable energy for wireless sensing networks (WSNs) or structural control systems in civil engineering applications. This paper presents a comprehensive study on harvesting energy from earthquake-induced structural vibrations, which is typically of low frequency, to power WSNs. A macroscale pendulum-type electromagnetic harvester (MPEH) is proposed, analyzed and experimentally validated. The presented predictive model describes output power dependence with mass, efficiency and the power spectral density of base acceleration, providing a simple tool to estimate harvested energy. A series of shaking table tests in which a single-storey steel frame model equipped with a MPEH has been carried out under earthquake excitations. Three types of energy harvesting circuits, namely, a resistor circuit, a standard energy harvesting circuit (SEHC) and a voltage-mode controlled buck-boost converter were used for comparative study. In ideal cases, i.e., resistor circuit cases, the maximum electric energy of 8.72 J was harvested with the efficiency of 35.3%. In practical cases, the maximum electric energy of 4.67 J was extracted via the buck-boost converter under the same conditions. The predictive model on output power and harvested energy has been validated by the test data.

Three anode configurations of six-jet, cone-jet and cylindrical-jet are tested for their analytical performance under power mode operation. The effect of pressure, power and gas flow rate on atomic absorption signals have been studied. The increase of atomic absorption signal of sample element is observed at a fixed pressure in all configurations as the gas flow rate increase up to 300-600 seem, and as the power dissipated in the glow discharge cell increase. The lower the pressure is in the glow discharge cell at a fixed discharge power and argon flow rate, the greater the absorbance of sample element is. The optimum conditions are taken from these data and a calibration curve of Cu in low-alloy steel sample is obtained. In this calibration curve, six-jet configuration shows the best analytical results varies as the sample element.
This paper proposes a power conditioning system (PCS) for distributed photovoltaic (PV) applications using an asymmetric cascaded multilevel inverter with a single PV source. One of the main disadvantages of the cascaded multilevel inverters in PV systems is the requirement of multiple isolated DC sources. Using multiple PV strings leads to a compromise in either the voltage balance of individual H-bridge cells or the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation due to localized variations in atmospheric conditions. The proposed PCS uses a single PV source with a flyback DC-DC converter to facilitate a reduction of the required DC sources and to maintain the voltage balance during MPPT operation. The flyback converter is used to provide input for low-voltage H-bridge cells which processes only 20% of the total power. This helps to minimize the losses occurring in the proposed PCS. Furthermore, transient analyses and controller design for the proposed PCS in both the stand-alone mode and the grid-connection mode are presented. The feasibility of the proposed PCS and its control scheme have been tested using a 1kW hardware prototype and the obtained results are presented.
A new discrete-amplitude pulse width modulation (DAPWM) scheme for a high-efficiency linear power amplifier is proposed. A radio frequency (RF) input signal is divided into an envelope and a phase modulated carrier. The low-frequency envelope is modulated so that it can be represented by a pulse whose area is proportional to its amplitude. The modulated pulse has at least two different pulse amplitude levels in order that the duty ratios of the pulse are kept large for small input. Then, an RF pulse train is generated by mixing the modulated envelope with the phase modulated carrier. The RF pulse train is amplified by a switching-mode power amplifier, and the original RF input signal is restored by a band pass filter. Because duty ratios of the RF pulse train are kept large in spite of a small input envelope, the DAPWM technique can reduce loss from harmonic components. Furthermore, it reduces filtering efforts required to suppress harmonic components. Simulations show that the overall efficiency of the pulsed power amplifier with DAPWM is about 60.3% for a mobile WiMax signal. This is approximately a 73% increase compared to a pulsed power amplifier with PWM.
To solve the problems in the contact charging of inspection robots, a wireless charging system for inspection robots and a control strategy are introduced in this paper. Circuit models of a wireless power system with a compound compensation circuit and a three-phase Class-D resonant inverter are set up based on circuit theory. An output voltage control method based on the equal spread regulation of the phase difference between adjacent phases and the parameter correction method in the primary compound compensation circuit are proposed. The dynamic characteristics of the key parameters varying with the secondary coil position are obtained to further investigate the adaptive location scheme during the access and exit processes of moving robots. Combining the output voltage control method and the adaptive location scheme, a transition control strategy for the standby and operation modes of the wireless charging systems for inspection robots is put forward to realize the system characteristics including the low standby power in the standby mode and the high receiving power in the operation mode. Finally, experiments are designed and conducted to verify the correctness of the theoretical research.

This paper presents an isolated bidirectional dc/dc converter based on primary parallel isolated boost converter (PPIBC). This topology is an efficient solution in low voltage high power applications due to its ability to handle high currents in the low voltage side. In this paper, the converter has been modeled using non-ideal components and operated without any additional circuitry for startup using a digital soft-start procedure. Simulated and measured loop gains have been compared for the validity of the model. On-the-fly current direction change has been achieved with a prototype interconnecting two battery banks. A second prototype has been constructed and tested for supercapacitor operation in constant power charge mode.

The release of IEEE 802.15.4 PHY-MAC standard represents a milestone in developing of commercial wireless sensor network pursuing low power and low cost. In this paper, IEEE 802.15.4 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol was analysed at the point of power consumption. This analysis measured the amount of the rest of power after transmitting data with beacon enabled mode and the power consumption of each node in the time period. ns-2 simulation is used to verify the analysis.
A pulse width modulation(PWM) method for single-phase Sepic-type rectifier is introduced in this paper. The characteristics of the proposed PWM system are high performance high power factor with low input current harmonic distortion. The proposed control method is based on the average-current-mode using the dedicated integrated circuit UC3854 this technique it is possible to implement a very simple control circuit for unitary power-factor in CCM operation and also to provide over-current protection.
