  • A conventional active-clamp forward (ACF) converter is a favorable candidate in low-to-medium power applications. However, the switches suffer from high voltage stress, i.e., sum of the input voltage and the reset capacitor voltage. Therefore, it is not suitable for high input voltage applications such as a front-end converter of which the input voltage is about 400-$V_{dc}$. To solve this problem, three-switch ACF (TS-ACF) converter, which employs two main switches and one auxiliary switch with low voltage stress, is proposed. Utilizing low-voltage rated switches, the proposed converter is promising for high input voltage applications with high efficiency and low cost.

  • Distributed resources such as renewable energy sources and ESS are connected to the low voltage direct current(LVDC) distribution network through the power conversion system(PCS). Control power is required for the operation of the PCS. In general, controller power is supplied from AC power or DC power through switch mode power supply(SMPS). However, the conventional SMPS has a low input voltage, so development and research on high input voltage self-power suitable for LVDC is insufficient. In this paper, to develop Self-Power that can be used for LVDC, the characteristics of the conventional topology are analyzed, and a series-input single-output flyback converter using a flux-sharing transformer for high voltage is designed. The high input voltage Self-Power was designed in the DCM(discontinuous current mode) to reduce the switching loss and solve the problem of current dissipation. In addition, since it operates even at low input voltage, it can be applied to many applications as well as LVDC. The validity of the proposed high input voltage self-power is verified through experiments.

  • The input and output impedances in a low voltage distribution system is one of the most important matters for power line communication because from the viewpoint of communication, the attenuation characteristic of the high frequency signals is greatly caused by impedance mismatch during sending and receiving. The frequency range is from 1MHz to 30MHz. Therefore, this paper investigates the input and output impedances in order to understand the characteristic of high frequency signals in the low voltage distribution system between a pole transformer and an end user. For power line communication, the model of Korea's low voltage distribution system is proposed in a residential area and then the low voltage distribution system is set up in a laboratory. In the low voltage distribution system, S parameters are measured by using a network analyzer. Finally, input and output impedances are calculated using S parameters.

  • Recently, standby power reduction techniques of AC/DC adaptor were developed, consuming power almost arrived to 300mW level. The standby power losses are composed of the input filter loss 11.8mW, the control IC for AC/DC adaptor 18mW, the switching loss 9.53mW and the feedback loss 123mW. And there are the standby power reduction techniques. In this paper, in order to reduce the standby power of SMPS more, the loss due to a voltage difference between input and output is reduced by the control circuit which is composed of the low voltage driving circuit and voltage regulator. The low voltage driving circuit operates on the low voltage of input and off the high voltage. The low voltage driving IC was produced by the $1.0{\mu}m$, high voltage DMOS process.

  • In this study, an improved LCCT(Inductor-Capacitor-Capacitor-Trans) Z-source inverter(Improved LCCT ZSI) with characteristics of Quasi Z-source inverter(QZSI) and LCCT Z-source inverter(LCCT ZSI) is proposed. The proposed inverter can also reduce the voltage stress and input current/capacitor voltage ripples compared with conventional LCCT ZSI and Quasi ZSI. A two winding trans in Z-impedance network of the conventional LCCT ZSI is replaced by a three winding trans in the proposed inverter. To verify the validity of the proposed inverter, a DSP controlled hardware was made and PSIM simulation was executed for each method. Comparing the current and voltage ripples of each method under the condition of input DC voltage 70[V] and output AC voltage 76[Vrms], the input current and capacitor voltage ripple factors of the proposed inverter were low as 11[%] and 1.4[%] respectively. And, for generation of the same output AC voltage of each method, voltage stress of the proposed inverter was low as 175[V] under the condition of duty ratio D=0.15. As mentioned above, we could know that the proposed inverter have the characteristics of low voltage stress, low ripple factor and low operation duty ratio compared with the conventional methods. Finally, the efficiency according to load change/duty ratio and the transient state characteristics were discussed.

  • The use of high voltage gain converters is essential for the distributed power generation systems with renewable energy sources such as the fuel cells and solar cells due to their low voltage characteristics. In this paper, a high voltage gain topology combining cascode Inverting Buck-Boost converter and voltage multiplier structure is introduced. In proposed converter, the input voltage is connected in series at the output, the portion of input power is directly delivered to the load which results in continuous input current. In addition, the voltage multiplier stage stacked in proper manner is not only enhance high step-up voltage gain ratio but also significantly reduce the voltage stress across all semiconductor devices and capacitors. As a result, the high current-low voltage switches can be employed for higher efficiency and lower cost. In order to show the feasibility of the proposed topology, the operation principle is presented and the steady-state characteristic is analyzed in detail. A 380W-40/380V prototype converter was built to validate the effectiveness of proposed converter.

  • A novel two-switch active clamp forward converter suitable for high input voltage applications is proposed. The main advantage of the proposed converter, compared to the conventional active forward converters, is that circuit complexity is reduced and the voltage stress of the main switches is effectively clamped to either the input voltage or the clamping capacitor voltage by two clamping diodes without limiting the maximum duty ratio. Also, the clamping circuit does not include additional active switches, so a low cost can be achieved without degrading the efficiency. Therefore, the proposed converter can feature high efficiency and low cost for high input voltage applications. The operational principles, features, and design considerations of the proposed converter are presented in this paper. The validity of this study is confirmed by the experimental results from a prototype with 200W, 375V input, and 12V output.

  • A family of dual-DC-input (DI) dual-buck inverters (DBIs) is proposed by employing a DI switching cell as the input of traditional DBIs. Three power ports, i.e. a low voltage DC input port, a high voltage DC input port and an AC output port, are provided by the proposed DI-DBIs. A low voltage DC source, whose voltage is lower than the peak amplitude of the AC side voltage, can be directly connected to the DI-DBI. This supplies power to the AC side in single-stage power conversion. When compared with traditional DBI-based two-stage DC/AC power systems, the conversion stages are reduced, and the power rating and power losses of the front-end Boost converter of the DI-DBI are reduced. In addition, five voltage-levels are generated with the help of the two DC input ports, which is a benefit in terms of reducing the voltage stresses and switching losses of switches. The topology derivation method, operation principles, modulation strategy and characteristics of the proposed inverter are analyzed in-depth. Experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed DI-DBIs.

  • Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) modular converters consisting of multiple modular DC/DC converters can enable low voltage rating switches for use in high voltage input applications. In this paper, an input voltage sharing control strategy for input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) full-bridge (FB) DC/DC converters is proposed. By sensing the difference in the input current of two modules, the system can achieve input voltage sharing for DC-DC modules. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation and experimental results obtained with a 200w-50kHz prototype.

  • A new high efficiency and low profile on-board DC/DC converter for digital car audio amplifiers is proposed. The proposed converter shows low conduction loss due to the low voltage stress of the secondary diodes, a lack of DC magnetizing current for the transformer, and a lack of stored energy in the transformer. Moreover, since the primary MOSFETs are turned-on under zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) conditions and the secondary diodes are turned-off under zero-current-switching (ZCS) conditions, the proposed converter has minimized switching losses. In addition, the input filter can be minimized due to a continuous input current, and an output inductor is absent in the proposed converter. Therefore, the proposed converter has the desired features, high efficiency and low profile, for a viable power supply for digital car audio amplifiers. A 60W industrial sample of the proposed converter has been implemented for digital car audio amplifiers with a measured efficiency of $88.3\%$ at nominal input voltage.
